New Zealand Immigration Moving to a new country with family in tow, might just be the toughest journey you will ever take, and those in the know will rate the stress levels right up there with getting divorced and being fired. We decided to make the big move in 2005, and soon found ourselves returning to our homeland of South Africa. Not because we didn't like New Zealand, but because we missed our friends, family and way of life too much. Two years later we moved back to New Zealand again for the same reasons and the same old pains. South Africa was just not working for us anymore, and the crime aspect was getting too close for comfort. Two years down the line, I feel we have broken through, and we can finally say that ... read more

So what do you do on your last day in NZ- apart from have to phone Singapore airlines as when I try to check in online - the flight number doesnt exist at the time I have listed on my schedule and they don't seem to recognise my ticket number...but I am not panicked at all and I am there on the system - but the flight number is changed and the time has changed and all because tonight the clock goes back here...so I guess it buggers up the airlines no end. So it was a day to have all my packing properly sorted and chuck some stuff out...and I even did iron some things - first time in 6 months aprt from when Marilyn ironed my clothes. Then after sitting on the deck in ... read more

Life flows in a pattern of lazy days here with Patricia and Peter...I don't seem to do much and it's perfect weather for sitting out on the deck in the sunshine ( Factor 30 is out again as well as my shorts and sun hat!!!) and reading . Now and then I feel guilty and Patricia very nicely organises me to do something ... a walk to the beach Long Bay Regional Park- - yes..then we go back to the beach later and swim...well they do and I swim about half a dozen strokes then jump about in the waves and walk on the beach. Yes then its back home and sit on the deck again - with instructions to eat at least 10 fejoa a day having been out with the bucket to harvest them..... ... read more

So it's finally here, after all the waiting, preparing, talking about it, getting anxious and excited in 24 hours I will be on a plane on my way to South America! I have been asked many times to keep people up to date with my adventures through email so I thought that a blog was the best way as then you can choose to read it or not and I can add photos for those of you who would rather not read anything at all :) Since quitting my job last year and making the decision to do what I feel is the scariest thing I have embarked on in my life so far, I have been through a myriad of emotions. Some of which are happiness, excitement, fear, apprehension, a sense of pride that I'm ... read more

Hi everyone Patricia here is a bit of a slave driver and she is telling me to get on and catch up with my blog!!! So here I am. She also makes us go out walking and swimming everyday..and even gets Peter to add in a bike ride some days. I came back from Bay of Islands on Monday ..what a fabulaous drive it was through Northland across to the West coast and then back down to Auckland. How to describe it - sometimes I thought I was driving in Scotland with a few tropical trees thrown in... winding roads ( hardly any traffic) though farmland and then forests, horses and cattle grazing, beehives dotted here and there...pretty homesteads- then suddenly you are in ancient volcanic hills ( Northumberland Nationa Park!!!) and some peaks and then ... read more

Now don't worry I havent been feeding Xmas Cake to gannets - tell you about that in a minute. So I left Sydney having sorted out my mess of stuff and got myself packed back into my 2 cases and rucsac and felt tidied up again. Angela was a star and got up at the crack of dawn to take me to the airport...we could have stayed in bed another hour as the plane was delayed coming from Dubai. It was one of this double decker planes - all very well but it seems to take ages to load all the passengers and then at the other end we waited ages for baggage...but I am cool about all that - NO WORRIES - I have adopted that Oz way of life. So eventually the plane took ... read more

So on Christmas afternoon we went round to Jamie's. At Mark's request we went to the beach & Jamie brought bubbly! Then we had a tasty tasty Christmas dinner thanks to the resident chef! :D Boxing day we set off for the airport & bid goodbye to Jamie & New Zealand to return to Australia - Melbourne for a night then on up to Darwin. Unfortunately my cold got worse to the point of sickness, dizziness & a mild fever. Not the best when travelling :s... read more

Yes, it seems like the world is growing up around me. I came home for my baby sister's wedding, to meet my two nephews for the first time as well as Cara and Blairs' twins and to celebrate Brendan and Renee's engagement. Thankfully none of that seems to contaminated me just yet despite my apparent marriage and annulment confusing family members. After many hours of flights, I finally landed back home and do you know what the first thing was that I noticed as I approached customs? New Zealanders have an accent. In London on the tube, you can often pick who the New Zealanders are by the way the speak but this was the first time that I had properly noticed it and I noticed it more and more over my week and a half ... read more

Thurs 22nd It was weird landing Thursay even know we flew Wed and only on a 4 and a half hour flight. It was fantastic seeing Arnie and Claire at the airport! They haven't changed one bit. Fri 23rd Today Arnie and Claire took us to the local shops so we could buy some warm cothes as it's freezing here. For some reason Nathan got his jumper free that he 'bought'. Lucky bugger!! That night we played pool in their Rumpus room and their friends came over, Karen, Gary and Ross. A rumpus room is a games room with a bar. We had such a great night and Claire and I didn't get to bed until 3.30am. Sat 24th Althought we were all really hungover we still made the most of the afternoon and we went ... read more
