After Vanuatu, I flew straight to Nadi and met up with my sister - my first visitor to Fiji! We jumped on the Malolo Cat and cruised to Malololailai Island (Little Malolo Island) before transferring to Malolo Island where we stayed for three nights at the Funky Fish Resort. It was three days of snorkelling, lying around, learning how to husk a coconut, some hiking and eating some fantastic food. Lovely.... read more

Blogger Bec reporting in from Matamanoa Island Resort A marine sanctuary one metre off shore, cocktails, an infinity pool, a massive bure, an un-get-outtable hammock, 4 chick lit novels, the pleasure of being alone and a whole lotta rain meant that our wonderful honeymoon was just not long enough! Our one island, one resort was about a 90 minute catamaran ride off the mainland of Fiji, or 30 nautical miles. We chose the island as there was no kids and was limited to 60 guests. The surroundings and the room was even better than we imagined! The resort offered heaps of activities such as pottery market trips, sailing, island hopping, snorkelling and the like but we were far too lazy for that! We managed a small hike up an even smaller hill (not a mountain as ... read more

So I arrived in Fiji last Sunday. It was only a 3 hour flight from New Zealand which was nice. I really had nothing set up for when I got here so I hoped in a bus and found a place to stay. It took me a few days to adjust to Fiji as it is very different to New Zealand. In town you are always being hassled to buy everything and take everyones tour for crazy amounts of money. It got annoying really fast and I decided to get out of the city as quick as possible. I decided to go to Mana island which is about 30 km away from the main land. It is a pretty small place and I managed to walk around it in an hour and a half. The island ... read more

Because of the Air New Zealand flight changes I had a lot less time in Fiji than I originally planned. This meant that i couldn't really do island hopping so i spent the 4 nights chilling out on Beachcomber Island. Before I even booked my trip I had planned to come to Beachcomber because I had seen it on a TV programme or read about it on a website and thought it sounded like Paradise. I was very happy when i got there and never wanted to leave this place! I had convinced my new NZ travel buddy Emily that she should book a flight to Fiji and join me instead of going straight home to Wales (no competition really!) We had an amazing time lazing on the beach, snorkelling, drinking cocktails and watching the ... read more

We arrived in Nadi in the morning & were soon heading to our island of paradise!!! We boarded the Malolo Cat (huge catamaran) which took us too the island, as you can imagine we were very excited by this time! When we arrived at Musket Cove resort we knew straight away that we were in paradise, as there was no Mcdonalds or Hungry Jacks in sight! Ou room was lovely, it was by the far the best we had stayed in so far... We were soon heading to the pool to catch the afternoon rays! There was lots of activities to do at the resort which included Snorkelling, Kayaking & Island hopping tours. In between our hectic schedule of chilling round the pool & supping Cocktails, we found time too tatke the Kayaks out and ... read more

Even getting to Fiji was full of excitement.... our plane was delayed by several hours, which led us to get chatting to a couple we had seen many times in New Zealand. They told us they had spotted Wolf from Gladiators in the airport so, to pass the delay time, we immediately set off on a wolf-hunt. Half an hour later we had searched all of Auckland airport with no success. Dismayed, we decided to have some food. However, all was not lost as out of the corner of her eye, Becky spotted a celebrity of a far higher calibre than Wolf - David Bishop from Neighbours! After ´discreetly´sitting very close to him and waiting for him to finish the chapter of his John Grisham book, Becky spoke to him and asked for a photo - ... read more

After a four hour flight to Fiji, we were warmly welcomed to the airport by some traditional music; this included four men singing in skirts and beach shirts-very much to my amusement! Strangely, neither Liza or I felt as though we had just arrived in Fiji and we weren't exactly excited about being there, which was even more odd. We put this down to being so excited about reaching South America, but I still couldn't help but feel very ungrateful! When we arrived at our hostel we were 'treated' to some Cava, which was this nation's favourite drink, despite tasting distinctly like mud. We downed it anyway and said our thank yous and joined the staff later on for a few games of cards. After breakfast we got the first boat over to Mana Island ... read more

Hi All Hope you're well. I'm now in sunny (and sweaty!) Fiji! although I'm leaving tomorrow. I'm currently in Nadi on the mainland, but we've spent the week on Mana Island. Very small and beautiful. Did some amazing snorkelling! Also went island hopping in a tiny tin boat. Went to Malolo Island, Musket Cove, Walu Beach and Honeymoon Island. Escaped the tsunami....now that was a sweaty time! Lots of worrying and being evacuated up a big hill (in the sunshine). The good news is I'm alive and brown. The hostel we stayed in was pretty squalid in a poor village on the island. But the kids were fun which made it worth while. I went hand line fishing, where we caught an eel and 2 fish....yum! We drank the local drink of Kava. Now guys, ... read more

Flew out of Auckland on a sunny summer afternoon providing some fantastic aerial views of the city and the harbour as I left. Three hours and a bit of turbulence over the South Pacific later, the plane was making its approach to Nadi International Airport. The first thing that struck me about Fiji was just how green it is. Less developed than I expected, even as the plane came in to land I was convinced we were going to put down in a field until just before the wheels touched down, thankfully on a runway! Certainly the best airport views I have seen so far, encompassed as it is by lush, green mountains. Got myself through customs fairly swiftly, and was greeted by the sight of some portly locals in Hawaiin shirts playing ukeleles and bellowing ... read more

This place was stunning seriously thought we had been taken to the wrong place when we turned up, we even got a welcome drink!! We had a room with an ocean view and our own bathroom which believe me is a luxury. This is the island where we probably gained weight as we got breakfast, lunch and a 3 course dinner. Really not the backpacker lifestyle. We spent most days here in a hammock and snorkelling. There were free kayaks so we had a go at that, first time was quite successful. The second time when we were coming back we were fighting against the current and Laura got stressed. we were going nowhere fast. This resulted in an attempt at swimming back and then throwing out the paddle..not a good idea. Sam had to come ... read more
