Looking for a place in Fiji to experience a true sense of the culture
14 years ago, April 8th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #108288
Hi,

Can anyone suggest an area, island, project, tour etc that would give me a true understanding of the Fijian culture and people?

I'm heading out in the not too distant future and welcome any suggestions.

Thanks

Hi,

If you are really after that authentic Fijian experience then I can recommend Vorovoro island. I went there and it was amazing!

There is no tourist/local divide - it is a community project where everyone chips in to build and run the island, sharing ideas and stories - often around the grog bowl - after a day of snorkelling, building, gardening or chilling in a hammock.

The warmth of the Fijian family who live on the island and those who help run the project is unique, the laughter often rings out across the island.

Vorovoro is slightly off the beaten track, but still easy to get to with a direct flight from Nadi to Labasa, where you'll be met by a member of the Tribewanted team.

Hope you enjoy it, google Tribewanted - you'll find loads of info.

Danny's Village Homestay

Hi May

Like you I want to experience the Fijian culture

researching on the internet I have found Danny's Village Homestay on the Coral Coast, Viti Levu, Fiji.

from my research it appears that this is a place where you can stay in a actual village.

google or youtube Danny's Village Homestay Fiji and you will find info on Danny's.

If anyone has been there please give some info/report on your time there.

I am seriously considering spending 3 or 4 days there during my upcoming visit to Fiji.

thanks Lord Lucan
