Morning All….we hope everyone is well! Well as ever we are late…..we left Fiji over 3 weeks ago and have only just got around to updating the blog! Fiji is definitely one of the most beautiful places we have ever been to in the world so far, it’s so beautiful we actually got sick of the perfect scenery on occasion!! We started our journey, like most, in the capital Nadi which was ok but a bit of a dump! We got to experience some of the mainland life and the local market which was an abundance of fruit & veg and Kava. We had booked 5 days on the mainland before leaving the UK; fortunately we messed up with the date difference so we only had to spend 3 days there. We caught the slow ‘fast ... read more

We were all pretty excited as we had heard nothing but good things about Mana Island and we were ready for some serious beach time and rum consumption! After our breakfast we made a quick booze trip to the supermarket and stocked up for the next few days. We decided to travel light and left our big bags behind and took a minibus to the coast. After paying for our trip and boat we boarded the rather small boat to Mana Island. The trip was supposed to take around 45 minutes but on the way the captain received a phone call. Apparently one of his friends on another boat had run out of fuel and had no anchor so were floating out in the ocean. We went searching for them but were unsuccessful. We eventually arrived ... read more

21st August 2008 - 29th August 2008 Bounty Island A short flight from Christchurch to Auckland then a three hour flight to Nadi (pronounced ‘Nandi’) and we were in Fiji and soon to be in shorts and flip flops again after six weeks of cold and snow. As we walked through arrivals we were confronted by various people touting their business. We were glad we had pre-booked everything as we are unable to handle that anymore. They were very tame to be honest but our tolerance levels are not what they were twelve months ago. A transfer to our hotel, Nadi Bay Resort, where we were greeted with a traditional Fijian welcome song and a demonstration on making ‘cava’ which we were able to sample. Many people claim it looks and tastes like muddy water. They ... read more

After seven weeks of cold and rain in New Zealand, it was amazing to touch down in Fiji and finally see some sunshine! We spent our first night in a hostel on the mainland, where we got to spend the evening eating and having a few drinks around the pool. Was lovely and relaxing. The next morning we were up early to get our ferry connection out to the malolo islands where we were planning on spending the week. We were picked up by a man in a little minibus, and driven along a stretch of beach to the marina (not sure why he didn't go on the road). This was our first sight of a fijian beach and we weren't disappointed! After an hour on the malolo cat ferry we arrived at the resort of ... read more

They used to say that the world was flat, and if you sailed to the end, you'd plummet over the edge into an abyss.. COOL! I'm now in the Eastern Hemisphere, having crossed the International Date Line and 180-degree mark. Not much else to report, but I can safely say Fijans have been the friendliest people in my South Pacific experience. There are some small culture shocks, such as how people ask for gifts. The customs official came aboard, poked through our stuff, went through our wallets, and then asked if we had any iPods or DVDs or clothes that we would like to give him as a gift. I think he got a tshirt out of the ordeal, and he seemed disappointed about that. The recent history of Fiji has seen an incredible amount of ... read more

Panoramic View: On The Approach To Mala Mala Island South Sea Island We got up early to catch the transfer to the port where we set sail. Our destination was the closest island called South Sea Island, which allowed us for the most time to spend on any island resort. It is the island next to Bounty Island; famous for being the setting of Celebrity Love Island. South Sea Island is one of the smallest islands in Fiji, with one backpackers resort on the island providing overnight packages (much like the other islands). It literally only takes around 2 minutes to walk around the island to give an idea of scale, but it proved to be idyllic. The weather was very warm, but not roasting and we lazed about the beach while taking advantage of the ... read more

Hello all wow what a nice time we have had on the islands. they are so pretty, and we had SUN! so that made it even better. we set off on sunday morning, with the big coach picking us up along with all other backpackers. the ferry port was so busy, so many people travel fiji, it is unreal. we set off first to the party island, which we were excited for. It was such a sunny day and we were welcomed with a fijian song. It was ncie. It is so funny as all they do is shout BULA, BULA!!!!! So beachcomber was great fun, it was full of youngster like us, and it was good in the evenings. It was not as party as we expected, which was actually quite nice. although we drank ... read more

Perhaps it’s because I still think I’m a traveller but for holidays I really don’t like to make plans, scheduled itineraries and most of all bookings. Sometimes this works for you and sometimes it doesn’t - Unfortunately my Fiji experience was a case of the later. We’d done plenty of research on Islands we liked resorts that looked nice and expected to play everything by ear when we got there. My reasoning that Fiji is a big backpacker destination must make it an easy place to improvise. Upon arrival though it seems that most backpackers like to pick a package tour of 2 nights here a night here then another couple here. The reason for going to Fiji was to experience the epitome desert island full of Islands whos diameters are measured in meters not miles, ... read more

Bulaaaaaaaaaaaaaa everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello everyone, I really liked Fiji, was so amazing we went to two islands. The first one was Beachcomber the sun, sea, sand and food were just perfect. However, it was owned by a man from New Zealand so even though i was in fiji i felt it was more of a show, as the fijian workers were in uniforms and the food was suited to the english diet. however the island itself was very fiji like! The next island we went to was Mana, which was a island which was just occupied by fijians we were some of the only english, we lived in a shack run by fijians and lived how the locals lived and we absolutly fell in love with the place. We were so welcomed, every night we were shown different fijian ... read more
