Bula! ('Hello' in Fijian) Sheena and I both decided that it's about time that we started some sort of blog to keep people up to date. Seeing as we have time and internet at our disposal before we fly out to Perth tomorrow, we figured it was as good of time as any to start one! The first week of our honeymoon has been literally out of a postcard. We stayed the bulk of it at Tokoriki Island resort, which is on Tokoriki island, part of the Mamanuca Island group in Fiji. Infinity pools, outdoor showers, fantastic cuisine, intimate dinners, and incredibly friendly staff made this 6 days like nothing we've ever experienced. Once I post the pictures, I hope they do it justice! Some highlights: * Sheena somehow was able to wear every one of ... read more

If you want to see the real Fiji, i.e. the one from the post cards, you have to get away from the mainland and head to the surrounding islands. We took the trip to Mana Island, part of the Mamanuca chain to the west of the country, about an hour by boat from Nadi. The island is a small thin outcrop of sand & palm trees with two hills at either end. The sands are pure white and when the sun is shining and the tide is in it every bit resembles the picture of tropical paradise. We stayed in a place called Mana Lagoon, the cheapest place to stay on the island. It was very basic. The shower was little more than a cold water tap mounted to the wall. The electricity was only on ... read more

Wowzas! What a great time I had in Fiji. I'm now in Byron Bay, Australia, but wanted to send over some updates. Internet was a little hard to come by, or a fast connection anyway, so I'll do my best to rehash the past for ya. It's been a whirlwind of fun. Day 1 (5/26): We travel about 22 hours from Austin, TX and arrive in Mana about 9 or 10am. Immediately we relax with a beer. Caitlin relaxes at our hostel's beachside picnic tables and I played volleyball. Immediately everyone is so welcoming and friendly. I met a super nice German, Ben and an English girl, Rebecca. She introduces me to a few of her other friends and the train of friend meeting continues. Caitlin heads to be early and I stay up and watch ... read more

Ok, so we arrived onto South Sea Island, the first tiny wee island in the first group of Mamanuca islands that you see from Nadi and it is very small; blink and you'll miss it. Unfortunately, we werent welcomed quite as energetically as other islands, as in there was nobody waiting for us and they were more bothered about setting up their new stereo than checking us all in. So we were stood around for a good like 15 minutes until somebody asked what was going on, to which we were like barked orders n jus given a bed number. Thanks for the welcome!??!? So we were all feeling somewhate dispirited, but we reminded ourselves we were with a bunch of cool people, and we were in Fiji, with a bar downstairs, so all was not ... read more

7th April 2009 - ARRIVAL ON LOVE ISLAND!!! As we got off the boat onto Bounty Island I felt deflated! Nat and I were back to being on our own. Not a bad thing but we had all formed such a nice group on Mana it was a shame to all split apart. Even more of a shame thinking that it was more than likely I would never see any of them again despite us all getting on so well! Nothing I could do about it though and for all I knew Bounty Island could be just as good! As I walked up the beach to the resort it hit me how small an island it was. I was excited by the fact that the 1st series of Love Island was filmed there...how cool!! Unlike Mana ... read more

SUN - Got the bus to the airport with Dave, had food then said goodbye to him. Plane was delayed a bit but I didn't actually realise until the lass sitting next to me on the plane said it was annoying! Ha! Shows how much attention I pay in airports, it's a wonder I get anywhere! Lass was a really nice, chatty kiwi, I now have aplace to stay and a curry to eat in Auckland if ever I need it :) She lent me her lonely planet so I could read up on Fiji on the way over. When we landed there was a Fijian band playing for us as we collected our bags :D Heard someone shout my name and Tasha appeared infront of me :) Yay! I'm in Fiji with Tasha! Got a ... read more

8/4/09 = Snorkelling and rain in Bounty Not the good nights sleep I had hoped for. Layered up pyjamas to protect from cold, but ended up way too hot. Typical. Had to get up v.early morning to remove extra T-shirt and de-tuck from bed and then woke up naturally at 7am. Rubbish body clock. Pitch black in room because no windows at all, so had to navigate around using trusty phone again. Chilled and pottered around until 7:45, then woke Deb up for breakfast. Only a few people awake when we arrived at 8am and v.excited to assess eating options. Had fresh bread with one of those fancy, large toasters that takes toast through on a travelator type thing - v.exciting - yummy looking pancakes, jam cereal and fruit. Where to start? Obviously would sample everything, ... read more

6th APRIL 2009 - SNORKELLING, GOODBYE ALABAMA & DOG CHASE!! I slept well and felt fine when I woke at 7am. I stayed in bed until around 7.40 and then strolled across to the hall for breakfast. Usual table and 1st in line...no messing!! Breakfast was good again but not for my waistline....pancakes, syrup, bananas, bread and juice! Carb overload!! Pretty much all of us made breakfast except Theresa. Nat had a wake up call from a mouse in our room...nice!! Everyone knackered though as most didn't go to bed until around 3am unlike myself who was tucked up at 1am. Such a different story from the first night there!! Following breakfast I took a pew on the beach with Orla and eventually everyone else came and joined us too. Our winning quiz team claimed our ... read more

7/4/09 = Goodbye Mana Island...Bula Bounty Island Woke up annoyingly early at 7am and couldn’t get back to sleep - curse you wretched fan! Tossed and turned until 7:45, then got up and got ready for breakfast. Leaving Mana island today. Had a great time here, but didn’t feel bad about leaving because nearly all our group was doing the same. Went to hall for our last breakfast and it was another really good one…not being sarcastic, breakfasts were good. Pancakes, banana, syrup, even a nice cup of tea. Chatted and ate, then all went to beach. I wrote diary for a while - didn’t fancy sun today - and had a v.funny experience watching a dog and a crab having a face-off. The dog dug up this huge crab, then they kind of battled, dog/crab ... read more
