Woke up about 8am and packed for trip to Mana Island. We waited for the bus to take us to the boat and it promptly arrived at 9:00am and promptly dropped us off at 9:05am about 100 metres down the road at Nadi Bay Beach where we stay for the next 2 hours!! After contemplating the extra 2 hours we could have stayed in bed, we finally board the little speedboat to Mana Island which travels via Bounty Island where the new passenger tells us Celebrity Love Island was filmed. Fascinating. After a short but sickly trip we arrive at our destination, which is exactly as you would imagine a picture-perfect desert island to look with white sandy beaches and beautiful turquoise-blue ocean. We are staying at Mereani's Backpackers Inn and are fortunate enough to have ... read more

Day 1 Our Fiji trip began with a friend picking us up and dropping us off at Gosford train station. In just under an hour-and-a-half, we were at the international departures terminal at Sydney airport. After a four-hour flight and a one-hour time change, we arrived in Nadi on the main island of Viti Levu just in time to be transported to our overnight hotel - the Tanoa International - a beautiful hotel with very hungry mosquitoes that dined well on Sarah’s legs! Day 2 Up early to be transported to the marina for our ferry to Malolo Island. When we arrived at the “marina” (an open-air ticket booth and two docks), we were told that the Tiger IV catamaran was in need of repair… and they began to load our luggage into a small red ... read more

Up early at Nadi Bay to pack my bags and go for a swim before the Beachcomber bus picked me up. Said goodbye to Danyel and jumped on the bus with Brett. Only took a small bag with some clothes, camera etc and left my rucksac in storage at the hostel. (will be back here after Beachcomber before i leave for New Zealand. Drove through all the posh resorts and picked more people up then arrived at the jetty. Got on the boat for beachcomber and went passed all the islands in the Mamanuca group ranging from huge forest filled islands to 10 metre sand dunes sticking out of the water with someone having a picnic!! Compared to the other islands I had been Beachcomber was really busy and more commercialised. Rather than a local fijian ... read more

We spent a week at Mana Island, in the Mamanuca Group, off Viti Levu's east coast. It was all fairly rustic and laid back, and we spent most of the week just lazing around, either on the beach or by the pool. The Kids Club did an excellent job of entertaining our offspring, giving Issy and me some much needed "us time". There were excellent beaches on both sides of the island, so if we found ourselves getting a bit sandblasted we just took a short stroll across to the opposite shore. The snorkeling was excellent, with extensive coral reefs teeming with colourful fish close in to the beach. Now I can put up with lazing around for a while as much as the next person, but I do eventually start to get slightly itchy feet. ... read more
