Hey everyone We're currently in Noosa, a nice little town by the sea and a bit more yuppy than Byron Bay. Due to how our bus times etc are fitted together we've had to spend the last 4 days here and are leaving on sunday. We've done a number of activities from surfing to kayaking so is all good. There was also some excitement when we went bodyboarding and chose this stretch of the beach where the waves were huge. Was really good fun but what we didn't realise was that the water was really shallow and there was also a no swimming sign post up (which we didn't see). Anyway caught a few waves and was enjoying it but not long into it and huge waves introduced me to sand face first. No real damage ... read more

My third time to Great Ocean Road, but only the first time since one of the 'apostles' crumbled and fell and now left with 11. I'd recommended anyone doing this trip from Melbourne, to take at least two days as there is much to see and do on the road leading up to the 12 Apostles. We stopped at a couple of places, had breakfast on the way up to Apollo Bay, then stopped at the craft market there. We took a walk in the rainforest at Mait's Rest, then to the Tree Top Walk at the Otway Ranges. Admission is $17 for adults, for a 2km walk which takes about 45 minutes to an hour. You get to walk on a elevated man-made ramp that goes up to 25 metres from the ground, then walk ... read more

Well I am writing this on the plane on Saturday April 29, 2006 on our way back to Perth after Mum’s funeral. Kate has shown me how to work offline for the blog and save quite a bit of Internet time. We ended up being in Sydney for 10 days. Because of the backlog of funerals after Easter and then Anzac Day we couldn’t bury Mum until Thursday 27th so it was quite an exhausting and drawn out experience. The good part of it was seeing so many of the family and catching up with lots of friends. Anne and Trevor Back who are looking after our Lexus picked us up from the airport and looked after us really well during our stay. We spent part of the time up in Blaxland with brother Rob and ... read more

The bus to Cairns was an exhausting one, I pretty much slept all the way. I was still knackered by the time we got there, and when we got to our hostel, Serpent, I went straight to bed. Unfortunately the impossibly loud girls in the dorm decided against me getting a good nights sleep, and one of them embarrassingly brought back Rupert from Pride of Airlie...had to lie and listen to them, praying to be either shot or put to sleep. The next day we didnt get up to much, had a look round Cairns, a city backed by the mountains of the Great Dividing Range, right on the sea, hot and humid and tropical. There was a lovely lagoon, with pelicans nearby. We went back to the hostel, played some pool and had a miniscule ... read more

Hello everyone. I am writing this journal entry on my final night in Australia. At 9.20 tommorrow morning we will be flying to Christchurch which we are all really excited about. My final adventures in this country have included a very unsuccessful trip to the Great Barrier Reef, a visit to the Australia Zoo, and a sky dive! The Great Barrier Reef: Well, I have always dreamed of visiting the Great Barrier Reef and it was one of the main things that I was looking forward to being able to do in Australia. So, despite the bad weather in Cairns we decided that we would still venture out there for the day. It took about two hours to get out to the first location for the day and this was long enough for me to turn ... read more

Scott writes: Crikey, living in a van and traveling up the east coast has been absolutely ripper so far. Our very basic of mobile home, now called Chad, is exactly that....basic. We have all the normal rooms that come with a house its just our kitchen, lounge, bedroom, garage and loft are all rolled into one small space. Oh yeah, and we have two bikes that go into the mixer as well now. Go North We decided to travel up the east coast and abandon our original thoughts of going south and then west on the basis that a few locals gave us some fair dikkum advice and told us it would be cold. We didn’t really like the thought of being cold and sitting out on a camp site in our rinky dink chairs freezing ... read more

Well, as promised, this entry is being written in the internet cafe at my youth hostel in BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA. So, to all you worriers, yes i made it here in one piece! Both flights were fine-service and food both good, not v.much turbulence and on the first flight i got extra leg room AND a window seat AND a free seat next to me(perfect for sleeping or in my case sitting there with my eyes closed and wishing i was asleep)! Jet lag really started to sink in on the second flight and by the time i reached Brisbane (9hrs ahead of England) i was ready to drop into a coma which is exactly what i did at 9.30pm. Today, my first full day in australia, was spent exploring Brisbane on foot and getting provisions ( ... read more

After travelling through hundreds and hundreds of kilometres of fields (I had no idea there were that many sheep in Australia!), we were definitely ready to see some ocean scenery. Although we saw bits and pieces of the ocean while we stayed in Robe and Port Fairy, the Great Ocean Road didn't actually start until we passed Port Fairy. The road still didn't hug the coast, but there were many turnoffs to the various geological formations. Along the entire road we were rained on (it followed us!), but we were able to find a few breaks to explore. All along the road, the coastline is constantly being battered by the southern winds and waves. As time and the forces of water take their toll, the coastline is continually degraded leaving hundreds of isolated rock formations standing ... read more
