So, today we had a really cool day, we had breakfast at a cool little bar next door to our hostel, and had cornflakes and a cup of tea!!! wooohooo such a taste of home! Then we had toast and jam ahhh so nice, cured the sore head after 2 pints last night - lame! We headed to the bus termianl to get our bus pass for traveling, and the man was really helpful and explained everythign to us, and then we went and used the net for a bit to book accommodation. Have sorted it, and are heading off tomorrow to the beach, think we told that in the last entry. Then we headed into Brisbane for a look around, which was nice. Had a toilet stop at the hostel and then went back out ... read more

Wed 26 April. The road north shot out of Sydney like a red corpuscle in the artery of life. Bang, glimpses of the vast tracts of the Haawksbury inlet. Roads carved from mountain ridges, sheer rock on either side. There's always next time. View from yacht would be best. Down into Gosford and Terrigal, where a massive Crown Hotel sits in a suburb. Sat there and read Patrick O'Brian's "Far Side of the World" in the most salubrious of surroundings. Downstairs the two-up square waas hot with betting. One tall guy, shaved head, kept banging it with a $50 note and shouting, 'Fifty, heads, fifty, heads.' Everyone looked happy. I didn't spruik on Anzac Day, required a rest and the hassle wouldn't have been worth it. Terrigal's beaches were beautiful in an unending series of awe-inspiring. ... read more

Hello and welcome to the first instalment of "Jonny in Australia"! It has been a while since I left a blog, mainly because Ive been so busy living the ozzy lifestyle! For starters it felt good getting out of Asia- I'd had enough of noodles and rice and constant attempts at trying to scab 20pence from a taxi driver. But now Ive arrived in Oz, I ask the question why did I bother trying to scimp and save, cus here is bloody expensive! My finances have been hit harder than a melons liver on a night out (yes I heard about Saturday nights escapades)- but it has been worth it....!! We arrived into Cairns at about 4.30am, absolutely knackered having had no sleep on the flight over from Singapore. Feeling confident though we taxied into Cairns ... read more

Just a brief stopover in Sydney, enough to see the main sights. Opera house, harbour bridge, Bondi Beach and the like. Probably our favourite city we've been to. Everything is beautiful and well kept, loads of attention to detail on everything. Oh yeah, and we caught up with some old friends from back home! (see pictures!) Love and peace, Chris and Grace xxxxxxxx... read more

Well its that time again folks - you know the part where i tell you what a horrible time i'm having in this god awful country (He he he!) I'm sitting in an internet cafe in Airlie Beach trying to type but having trouble focusing on the keyboard as i have just stepped off a boat and feel like i'm still on it (and no i'm not drunk). I took a little trip out to the Whitsunday islands (so called because they were discovered by Captain Cook on Whitsunday - see its worth reading this you learn so much!). I set off on Saturday afternoon on a catamaran called the Pride of Airlie and we sailed for about 3 hours before we arrived at what would be our base for the 3 days we would be ... read more

Hey all, how you all doing? let me know, hate not speaking to people enough, it sucks! Anyways, spent about 10 days in Airlie beach and here is how it went... A long long time ago, in a single street far far away, we arrived in the tiny coastal town of Airlie Beach, home to the Whitsundays sailing trips! So annoyed that we had to wait 9 days to get on our trip we set into an extremely boring routine of sleeping, reading books, going to the lagoon for a bit to through a ball around, and eating in either subway or macdonalds - also cooked a little - pasta, beans on toast etc! all extremely healthy! this is pretty much all i can think to say bout the first 8 days! we watched spurs draw ... read more

The flight over from Hong Kong to Melbourne was dull, but fortunately the taxi driver who took me from the airport into the city itself had a bleached mullet to liven things up. I was a little alarmed by the preponderance of strip joints along King Street, which was part of my hostel's address, but it's on the fringes of the Central Business District so that made perfect sense. The hostel itself, which I'd chosen purely because both my guidebooks had rated it very highly, was bright and open, with the walls near reception awash with leaflets for tours and activities. I briefly looked into the kitchen, which contained enormous glass-doored fridges like you'd find in a supermarket frozen food section, and a large central collection of hobs. Of the few people lounging around in the ... read more
