Dogs Reward I guess it pays to be cute and even in the animal world creatures know when they are and they do tend to use this as an emotional lever. Well Bitsy is no different. Who is Bitsy, well Bitsy belongs to the house we are sitting at the moment and one of the instructions we were given when her owner is away was to “Wash the Dog” I appreciate that Caroline has had a lot to do, whilst I have been away so, over Skype I had said that as soon as I was back I would wash the dog. Today was that day and after dropping Caroline off at the train station, I got back to the house and set about organising the mission in hand. Dog bath, full of warm water-check!, dog ... read more

Hi Everyone, We thought we would firstly send our Christmas felicitations to you all where ever you are in the world and hope you all have a great and safe time. It is appreciated that Kangaroojack’s blog factory has not been that busy of late, but we find it really difficult to write when we are not travelling, it just seems there is no visual stimulation, to record, but we are going to do a bit of a round up, in this blog and give you an update of what has been going on. We left Canberra on the 18th May and went and stayed on the farm, helping Helen recoup after being run over, by one of the Landcruisers, in between doing minor chores on the farm, it gave us time to prepare Jack and ... read more

Hi all, Before you read to much further, please ask yourself this question. (A) Have I just eaten, if you have then don’t read any further until you food has settled. (B) Do I have a cast Iron stomach, (Then read on immediately). Let’s go back about 10 months to start with, Caroline and I were on our favourite farm, Woodstock, beetling around as usual and bam, I have a fly, fly in to my ear and its intermittently buzzing and flapping its wings. It’s a horrible feeling, it makes you feel completely disoriented. I ask Caroline to have a look and she peers in to the darkness, I was going to write that she could hear it buzzing, but I honestly cannot remember, I tell Helen who is always completely non-fazed, totally calm and able ... read more

Five years In Summary The Idea was to present our 5 years in Australia, with a Kick Ass sort of montage of our original trip and our recent trip, giving you all some of the best pictures that we have taken of this awesome country, from the amazing wildlife, to the remote outback locations that we love. Well there is sort of a problem here, I have uploaded some images (32) to be exact and it has taken me a couple of hours and it has only really covered the first 8 moths and as we have been in Australia over 60 months, I guess you can see the problems we are faced with So wanting you to see the best of this amazing country its going to have to be work in progress. Caroline wrote ... read more

It's the Pigs! Fernhook Camp to Margaret River It started with a raindrop on the roof, I don't know what time it was, I reached up to close the skylight in the roof and in his sleepy state Andy said "Don't worry it's just possum's on the roof" I replied "That's just wishful thinking" and I recalled that we have not seen possum's for a long time and perhaps none at all on this trip. Eventually the rain stopped and I opened my eyes to see blue sky, but that quickly left as a raincloud came over. It would appear very showery this morning, it was forecast but disappointing (for us) nonetheless. In between showers we managed to get the kettle on and have a quick cereal breakfast, we did not unhook last night so all ... read more

http://www.travelblog.org/Admin/Blog/gmap-entry.php?map_id=60524 The rain set in as we headed south pulling into the Top Tourist Caravan Park. This was another park where you were given assistance to park your van. The power was even connected for us so we settled in very quickly. Not daunted by the rain we set off to find some lunch, then big trees and the waterfall in the Serpentine National Park. On our travels we spotted a hardware store so were able to purchase some bits to do a few van repairs. We drove through tall trees to finally come to the Serpentine National Park. It was a short walk to the falls where we found mad teenagers swimming in the pool at the base of the fall. On a hot day, maybe, but this was cold and wet. Some had obviously ... read more

Our newest friend and triathlete, Josh, picked us up at 6:30am to drive to Mandurah for a mini tri-athlon. Swim 150 meters Bike 8 Km Run 2km NEXT, go jump in the ocean again and repeat all three events. Easy and fun - even I can do this. First, the men all jumped in and made a wave, and then the women followed. On the first swim, all swimmers were close together so our group splash was sufficient to scatter the tiny, almost transparent jellyfish. The tiny jellyfish had drifted into the sheltered bay on this very morning! The second swim was very unpleasant, most swimmers were dispersed after finishing their biking and running. So the second swim had small groups of 3 or 4. Watch this next scenario. Enter one innocent, naive Canadian female. Within ... read more

Welcome to this travel blog for our Europe trip 2012. We are now one week away from departure - and getting very excited about the adventure that lies ahead. Our front room looks like a bomb site with clothing and other bits and pieces of travel gear being assembled in rough piles. We are both very conscious of trying to travel as light as possible and are working on the principle; "lay out what you think you'll need and then leave half behind". We've been laying out clothing knowing that we need to cover all the climate bases. It will be cold when we arrive in Paris but we will be moving south quite quickly and the seasons will change during our stay. "Layering" is the buzz-word - stuff you can peel on and off as ... read more

This morning I decided to hop on a train down to Mandurah. It's a town about an hour south of Perth. There is a free shuttle bus from the train station to the main part of town every 20 minutes or so. I waited for the next bus and got off at the waterfront. I immediately fell in love with this place. I walked over to Dolphin quay which is where some shops and restaurants are. I had lunch at the big fish and chip place before going on a walk over to the city beach. I decided not to spend any time there and headed back to dolphin quay. I bought myself a big bottle of water and decided to hop on a boat cruise of the area for $25. Mandurah is built on the ... read more
