wow! what an intense three day I had!! Never thought the rainforest of Australia was so thick and deserted!! No phone in a national park guys, even less internet! After the high class Port Douglas, the magnificient Kissey took us to Mossman, a quiet little town, especially on a sunday. Decided to go a bit further to find a great spot to sleep and Cooya beach was the night destination (10 min away from the "city') (see picture on phil's website) Nothing feels better than cooking, eating and sleeping by the ocean in a comfy van!! waking up the next morning and opening the side door and seeing the palm trees and ocean is also a great feeling, let me tell you :) Kissey then took us to Daintree where my Let's go guide luired me ... read more

Dag 20 : 29/03/2006Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary wa... read more

Long time no talk for me mainly because there has not been a lot for me to tell you lot that would excite you. Its been well over 2 weeks since my last blog now so ill try to remember what we have done to the best of my knowledge. As far back as i can remember we went to the rugby 7's at the Commenwealth Games we went to every single session so we were there from 10 in evening 2 hour break in afternoon and then finish at half 10 in the evening. The Rugby was brilliant fun the atmosphere was amazing and it was gd to see all the lesser countries like Uganda, Kenya and Sri Lanka get there chance to shine. The most notable thing from the first days play was the ... read more

March 28, 2006 We have just had the last two days in Mooloolaba. Isn’t that a great name? It is aboriginal, as are many of the names around here. Mooloolaba is a resort town on the Sunshine Coast, going north from Brisbane. We picked up a rental car in Brisbane and drove in just over an hour to Mooloolaba. Chris and Graeme have a small “flat” - apartment in a resort there right on the beach and they were gracious enough to let us use it for 3 nights. How wonderful - we had a great time. They say that Queensland only has two types of weather: really wonderful and perfect - and it was! So, on the first full day: and now I have to apologize to Patrick as I know how he feels about ... read more

There’s a lovely Japanese Gardens right by campus and the only time that I’ve been through it was when it was a handy shortcut to my friend’s house. This weekend we had absolutely perfect weather and I decided that it would be the perfect time to go on a nice little excursion to it. I’m writing this without the pictures on hand because my friend took them on his digital camera but I’m sure you’ll be able to see everything that I’m talking about when I do get them uploaded. You walk into the gardens and it is like you are immediately transported into a REAL Japanese Garden! Just a quick glance over your shoulder confirms that you obviously haven’t (or really, logic dictates that too…) because of the ugly buildings right behind. There were these ... read more

Feeling a little worse for wear I crawled out of the tent into the brilliant morning sunshine. After a stomach settling breakfast of eggs, beans and spaghetti we were soon packing up camp and heading to try and buy some ice to keep our food (and beer!) nice a cool. After filling up we decided to head up the beach to Indian head: the northern most extent of our journey. Indian head is a huge rock outcrop and on a calm day it is possible to see tiger sharks swimming in the water below it. Unfortunately on our visit the water was not calm enough to see the sharks, but nonetheless the view was breathtaking. Dunes, forests, beaches and the ocean were laid out before us in a perfect picture of paradise. I wanted to go ... read more

Well set off this morning for my 2 night sailing adventure (tho no sailing involved...Powerplay is a catamaran with no sail) The boat is totally geared towards divers so i'll be able to put my certification to good use. Really nice group of people on the boat so should be a good trip. The crew are ace too; Anika is the diving instructor, Simon the skipper and Damo the hostee...in charge of food and general happiness! We had our first dive today in Blue Pearl Bay off Hayman Island, it was amazing. Saw a huge Mouri wrasse called Elvis! felt really comfortable down there and had so much fun. The Sunset was beautiful, so bright and since it was reflected on the water the whole ocean looked orange! Think I really am in paradise!... read more

Well I left Hamilton Island on a big boat to head to the mainland after my birthday. Boy is it hot up here in Queensland. It's beautiful...and is so great that you don't have to wear a jumper in the evenings like in Melbourne! I really didn't know what to expect from Airlie Beach, but one thing for sure, I didn't realise it was just one long strip which has everything on it! Bars, Clubs, Cafes, Restaurants, Accomodation etc It's all on one not very long strip of road...very strange, I thought it would be more like a bigger town... At the moment my accomodation is in this little hut with 7 other people, it's very basic but has its own bathroom in the hut... So yes, basically for the past couple of nights I've been ... read more

Well, we are now in Airlie beach having driven south from Townsville this morning. We've bumped into Tom and Emma, a really nice english couple we first met underneath a waterfall in a national park 3,000km away way out west so will be having a few beers with them tonight. I have just booked myself on a 3 day / 2 night sailing cruise around the Whitsunday Islands and will be setting off afloat the Independent Endeavour sailing boat tomorrow with 11 other people I am yet to meet. I have pre-orded a case of cold beer which will be on the boat awaiting my arrival along with snorkelling gear so I can swim aroound the Great Barrier Reef. I can't wait. Stay posted for piccies and stories when I get back in 3 days time. ... read more
