An early and hungover start to the day... which to be honest is quite normal, we check out of the hostel to get the 2 o'clock bus to Noosa, a beach town on the Sunshine Coast. We had all heard very good things about this place so the hype and excitement of going there was on high. As with all the hostels we have to check out before 10 o'clock so that meant we had to hang around for a while before we could get our bus. The hostel did a BBQ breakfast, which was cool, so in true hungover style a big greasy bacon butty met my satifaction. We waited at Brisbane transit centre for a couple of hours playing a very stupid game of Matt's called spot the celebrity, whereby when someone walks past ... read more

01.04.06 So here we are in a new location, great! We have arrived at Airlie beach, the place where so many people leave for their massive tourist attack of the Whitsunday islands, but not us!! we are fed up of hearing about them. After getting settled in we went out to check the town out and the local Saturday market. We put our underwater camers in to be put onto cd, so we were looking forward to that. After lunch we walked along the sea front, you can't swim in the sea here because of the stingers. The town is nice, there is quite a lot of shops, a nice harbour and a lovely lagoon that you can swim in to cool off from this tropical heat. After the quietness of Agnes Water it looks like ... read more

Well, I got on the bus this morning down to the ferry port. Got on the ferry to Townsville and as the ferry pulled away Gary texted me sayin he'd just missed me...watched me get on the ferry! :-( Arrived in Cairns to be greeted by Sara and taken out for a nigth out! Went to the woolshed...2for1 drinks! was great then on to Rhino bar where the 'Dukes of Hazard'were on...now the posters show an unmistakably male naked chest so imagine my disappointment when two girls in little denim shorts and checked shirts came on the stage waving bright pink straw stetsons and dancing. we got rapidly bored and me and Sara grumbled about how we could do that if we were paid enough. Probably shouldnt hav said anyhtin as the next part of the ... read more

We had to set of early to ensure we completed the 2 hour paddle back to the pickup point by 10. With our skills well honed over the last few days we achieved this no problem and were soon back in Noosa celebrating with a few (Ginger)Beers. Having got up to date with emails and the like I headed of the Maroochdore to (hopefully) get some diving in. ... read more

Finally all my travel plans seem to be coming otgether. Honestly, it's taken nearly 3 hours of planning, booking, re-planning, re-booking to get things in order. I'd seriously underestimated the travel times needed to get around this ginormous country and I'm only doing the coast! The whole trip has depended on the Cairns-Darwin Safari, since it only leaves twice a month and I'd originally wanted to catch the 18th May departure, but everything has stretched, as usual, and I've had to put it back to June 1st, giving me another 14 days to play with, and, more worryingly, to fund. Still, it's only money and why rush a once-in-a-lifetime trip? The really good news is that on re-arranging my 2 day Whitsunday's Sailing Trip, the lovely, superstar, Lesley said that they were booked full for the ... read more

The big day. We awoke early to Trevors cry of "That was the worst night's sleep EVER. GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!", a sentiment that was echoed by a lot of our group. We breakfasted, and the set off up stream at 08:30. Unfortunately we were two boats down - Esther had developed a bad back, and Esther being the good friend that she was went back to the ranger station with her. Chris and Helen also headed back as they were only booked on the one night adventure. Gemma and I, "Team Manchester" decided to keep at the front of "Team Canada" as the undisturbed water to the bow gave a mirror-like reflection of the imposing treas and picturesque blue sky. We paddled for 6Km passing only 3 other boats, a small and timid turtle ... read more

When I arrived in Toowoomba on Thursday the 29th somehow I had it in my head that I had until Tuesday, which for some reason I thought was the second, until I left for Singapore where I am now (Monday) but more about that later. I only got the chance to have a fleeting visit with the family again but luckily I got to see everyone, go to a Rodeo, play a round of golf (well 9 holes anyway) and organise what I was going to do about getting to Indonesia despite the little mishap at the end. I saw the Rodeo at the Toowoomba town fair that we all (Me, Carol, John, Nick and Tom) went down to one afternoon and evening. The fair is huge and people from all over the place have brought ... read more

This is a picture Ailsa and I took while sitting on King's Beach at Caloundra at dawn. We were on our annual pilgrimage to the coast to celebrate the birthdays of various members of our families and for some reason we were up at the crack of dawn and decided to photograph the event.... read more

From Fraser Island we went to Airlie beech where we stayed in a shared accomodation with a Canadian mother and daughter and lots of crickets and geccos! Cleverly Dan put masking tape round all the door to our room so the bugs couldnt sneak in through the gaps, this was good until i realised almost as soon as hed finished that i needed the bathroom and there was only one way out!! oops.(Dan was not happy!) While in Airlie beech we went on a trip to the Whitsunday Islands and went snorkling on the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkling was amazing and hopefully the pictures will come out cause we used a underwater camera so fingers crossed. Dan got loads of snaps of the reef, tropical fish and us in our wetsuits and flippers, i couldnt take ... read more
