Hi folks, prepare oneself for another epic essay. Checklist: tea: comfy sitting place; eastenders off; children in cage; bebel gilberto soundtrack? (I am listening to a lot of Rufus Wainright at the moment) As usual, photos to follow. Some cracking ones too, natch. I am learning how to use my close up feature on the camera, so plenty of zooming into spiders' faces and the like. If you like that sort of thing. I have spent a week in Cairns now and will take the midnight Greyhound bus tonight to Townsville, which takes about 6 hours with all the stops it makes. From there I'll decide how/if I can get into Outback Queensland via places like Mt Isa - which I really want to do, but from my research it seems difficult, but would be worth ... read more

Hi all, We stayed at the Hotel Colonial, Cuzco last January. The hotel was fine. I was approached by a travel agent (Adam Caro) who arranged a few things for us. Some of them worked out OK, but some did not. Unfortunately, the ones that didn't were the ones which were to occur after we left Peru. We communicated with Adam via email about it and he was most apologetic and blamed Western Union for not transferring money. He declared his intention to return our money. Unfortunately, he has never done anything more about it. Where he is concerned, my recommendation would be to make sure that everything has been paid for, before you leave Cuzco.... read more

There was definitely something amiss with The Gambler. She had defiantly powered on, chugging like an old steam train over a rolling, hilly coastal road to Cape Trib and back. Now, finally leaving Cairns for the big haul to Melbourne and Sydney, we decided it best to get the old girl looked at. And so, we took her back to Travellers Autobarn, whereupon a lovely aussie gentleman informed us that one of the spark plug leads was 'cactus' Back on the road with a complimentary new lead and the boys in tow, we locked onto destination Mission Beach, apparently beautiful. Of course we never made it that far that day, we ended up some 40kms inland at the nearest acceptable free campsite. Upper Liverpool Creek was set deep in a beautiful green valley roughly 10-15kms past ... read more

Sat Aug 5. 'Express' article appeared with front page header! One of the best ever reportages. My practice is producing results. This means 'Southern Cross and Boomerang' has appeared in the newspapers of Cairns, Port Douglass, Cooktown, Atherton, Innisfail, Tully, Ingham and probably Townsville. TV in Cairns. Far North Queensland coverage total. Noteworthy achievement. Response atop lookout today delightful. Breakwater Marina sailor got small flag. Sun 6 Aug. Townsville. Morning marathon. Free muffins, grapes, oranges and carrot cake. Tried to 'ambush advertise' by holding flag at finish line. Went to Palmer St. Southbank Hotel to sit poolside and stamp stickers. Giant butterfly, green and yellow wings with black edges, yellow body fluttered by then landed on stickers. Awesome. Spruiked The Strand. Gave away eight stickers on promise of 'stick on car'.... read more

Aug 2. Atherton. Early interview and spruik. Waterfalls aplenty starting with Crater (volcanic) and three or four more. Wild river grandeur. Massive trees down everywhere - cyclone. Path padded with leaf litter. Walking delight in cool clear air. Aug 3 Thur. Innisfail city also ravaged by blasts. Interview and spruik. Could hardly stop demand was so great. Who said Queensland was backward? Most progressive smoking prohibitions. Innisfail art deco dreamtime. Could use a coat of paint but. Left after lunch to Tully for interview and spruik. People gushing over design. Media moments mentioned frequently. Aug 3 Fri. Left Cardwell early after collecting coconuts. Ingham newspaper 'Herbert River Express' interview and morning spruik. Walked Tyto wetlands. Reeds and 'Osprey Nesting Tree' no nest. Pulled off road in Thuringowa to find splendid stream flowing past big paperbarks. Swam ... read more

Hello! Have just spent a fantastic few days on Magnetic Island and you can see why they call it "magic Maggie" - it is really lovely. Unfortunately they are building everywhere and you wonder how much longer it will remain nice. We've been staying at a place called the Koala Bungalows which is a nice campsite and we even had a champagne breakfast with the Koalas! Kiera did not get to hold one as she is too small so she was a bit disappointed, but she did get to stroke them, touch a baby crocodile, a python and cook her dad some toast on the open fire, so I think that was enough excitement for a little girl in one day. We have been driving around the island to the various beaches, all of which are ... read more

hello! I have finally been able to log on to my travel blog after several failed attempts in the last week! Have got to now try and remember what I have been doing! Had a great time in Cairns catchin up with the girls and had some good nights out which included dancing on tables (this was encouranged!) and staying up till a stupid hour in the morning to see England lose football (we didn't actually get to see them lose as the pub shut at full time!!). We also visited Fitzroy island which was beautiful and the see life was amazing! Swimmin just a few meters off the shore with snorkel we saw the most amazing sea life and coral including the biggest fish I have ever seem live...about 70 or 80 cm and Conor ... read more
