Just spent 4 nights at Carmila Beach which is about 200km north of Rockhampton. This has been our biggest drive yet...about 460km. Probably a bit too far for us to go in one day as we were a bit tired and grumpy by the time we got there and found a spot... then had to set up the tent...dig a toilet pit..start a fire. But I'm sure we will have to drive further at some stage. We are lucky they have had alot of rain here which has kept the campers away as we arrived in the middle of the Queens Birthday long weekend and I'm sure we would have struggled to get a spot at all let alone a good one like this. We have great protection from the wind an can see the water. ... read more

We really didn’t know what to expect. We had heard so much about the floods and we knew that it had been big news all over the world, but without a television it made it difficult to picture. There was a strange feeling as we headed into the unknown. Soon enough we no longer needed a television as we were able to see it with our own eyes. As we drove closer to Rockhampton the water level in each creek and river got higher and higher. Rivers were covering the rail bridges which were built high in the air to cross them and trains were sat stranded on higher ground. Just outside the city we saw what was once a field. It now looked more like a lake with someone’s roof sticking out of it. All ... read more

You’ll have to forgive me if I’ve missed a few days in my re-telling. There’s seriously no way to tell when everything happens. Not one person this morning knew what day it was when we were waiting for breakfast. It took 19 of us 10 minutes to work out how close Christmas is while we were sailing (i.e. mostly sober). It makes everything easier to do when you can’t be bothered trying to figure out what you’re doing next, and while I found this a bit distressing at first (I know, I’m a bit OCD), but then I stopped caring and my trip got a lot better. Moving on to what you really want to hear about: Can’t remember if I discussed Cape Tribulation and because I’m writing this on the bus I can’t get online ... read more

Friday 12th November and we decided to have a fairly quiet day. We had the customary visit from the King Parrots and chickens first thing. We went for another walk along by the creek and as we did we could still hear the splashing noise and then Graham spotted what was responsible – turtles! We might have guessed but for some reason we hadn’t thought of them being here. Once we had seen one we saw a whole host but mainly they were just disappearing into the water! At least the mystery was solved! We strolled further along and a beautiful little male Red-Backed Fairy Wren popped into view – yet another first for us. He was a lovely little bird. The female was flitting about as well and although she was pretty she was just ... read more

Sprawdziliśmy na przykład godziny wschodu i zachodu słońca w Ca... read more

Day 105: Friday, March 12th, 2010. The Whitsundays to Rockhampton, Australia. Per the Contiki Brochure, "After a ferry back to the mainland, plug in you MP3 or chat with friends as we drive through scenic Mackay, with countryside full of vibrant green vegetation and sugar cane plantations. Continue down the Capricorn Coast and head inland to an authentic country homestead, right in the heart of Queensland’s cattle country, for our overnight stay. During our time at Langmorn, a working cattle station, you’ll experience a taste of real Aussie country life. The farmer will show you around the enormous property in a behind-the-scenes look at da... read more

BUNDABERG As we are coming into Bundaberg our expectations are not too high! Someone a the last hostel said hat they had just come from there and walked into the Federal backpackers, saw the state of it and walked back out again. Well they did warn us it is a 'working hostel'. They said there was writing all over the walls, but the motel next door was the same price and okay, so we had a back up plan. Driving through the town it was quite nice and modern! I even had a McDonalds, so free WI-FI! We called the hostel who picked us up in a dirty old work mini bus, full of mud. Mmmm! Well, there are lots of other backpacker that we spotted en route! We walk into reception, which looks like a ... read more

For each entry so far I’ve registered the location of where I was at the end of the night. Tonight, I have no idea where I am. I am somewhere along the 1,700 km (about 1,100 miles) stretch between Brisbane and Cairns, my next destination. As the date changes, I’m about 16 hours in with 13 more to go. This is a long ride. I woke up early to catch this bus. Many told me it would be better to fly but I already had my ticket and the urge to see a bit more of Australia. Who knows who was right? In any event I was up early and my laptop was still dead. Time for a new one and maybe I can retrieve files. I called my parents (the typical Monday morning call) and ... read more
