We decided to hire our own little pontoon boat and go for a cruise up the river to see if we could see any crocs. And we did! We headed up Dickson Inlet and spotted about 5 small crocs.... read more

So yeterday I had a 6 hour bus ride to Cairns where Dave picked me up and took me to my new home for the next 4 days .....Chez Richardson :) I arrived to see the most magnificent house in luscious tropical surrondngs - and there she was Julie !!! on the varanda awaiting my arrival ..... "I called Hi honey I'm home" rushed upstairs and had 6 years worth of hugs !!!! I felt at hime straight away, cool drink on the balcony, feet up and chatter chatter chatter ..... then i was shown to my room, and I had the luxury of a double bed in a room all to myself, with space, beautiful surroundings, and a comfy mattress ... PLUS my own luxurious bathroom. Bliss, total bliss. Thai green curry for tea (or ... read more

Port Douglas: The Rain forest and Great Barrier Reef, Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st Mum and Dad were heading up to Cairns for a few days and asked us to join them, so with the prospect of visiting the rainforest and Great Barrier Reef I though we’d be mad not to. Doddy and I arrived on Wednesday morning to be met by mum and dad who had travelled up the day before and picked up the hire car etc. The first thing we noticed wad the heat, Sydney was warm, but this was something else, as soon as we stepped off the plane the hit heat us. The surroundings were a lot lusher and we both agreed it was nice to be out of the city again. Cairns had quite an American/Western feel with Blackpool style ... read more

Port Douglas is a picturesque little town with a beautiful "four-mile" beach. I was going to stay here 5 days to chill out a little bit and do some diving. The first day was all about doing nothing. Wonderful! The second day was good as well: I booked a 3-dive trip to the Great Barrier Reef. I went out with a boat called "Poseidon" and luckily, the weather was good this time. We went to the outer Great Barrier Reef and the coral was just amazing there! I also saw a green turtle and a grey reef shark. Pretty cool. Great Barrier Reef, another place off my "places to visit" checklist! :-) I also booked a one day tour with a four-wheel drive around Daintree National Park. The park is mostly covered by rain forest that ... read more

20th February 2010 Port Douglas After a couple of hours sleep we woke for some breakfast, (35 dollars) we ate too much. After another couple of hours kip we explored a bit of Port Douglas. Walked out through the back of the hotel, across one street and we were on 4 mile beach. There were only a handful of people on the beach and a lifeguard. Picture showing the sea temp today was 30 degrees C. Good surf, with stinger net in place for swimmers. Walked down into town, bought some sandals (both) and went for coffee to work out which trips we should go on. Back to hotel for shower and have dinner. Not a good advert, as we asked if we should book. We were the only ones in for dinner!! 21st February 2010 ... read more

Today we travel to Port Douglas - a place where even the corner shop is classed as a boutique. We arrive at 6pm as it is going dark - not good when we need to eat and are in the mood for an adventure! We drop our bags and head out - we follow signs for the beach only to be walking in the completely wrong direction! Eventually we find it! Next we try the Marina - again bad signposting (or map reading prevents this) so we try to look for somewhere to eat but as it’s wet season we find most places are closed until March! We head back to the hostel and call it a night - we will try again tomorrow! 08.02.10 We wake up feeling slightly more refreshed than the last two ... read more

Australia - Queensland - Port Douglas After Dan's disappearance back home I decided to head back to Port Douglas, a beach town North of Cairns. It's a beautiful beach resort set in the tropics, a popular destination for weddings and a holiday destination for a few famous faces - not that I saw any mind you. It's also where Steve Irwin experienced his unfortunate encounter with a Stingray and a few kilometres further North of Port Douglas is where they film Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Apart from all that, it became my beautiful home for two months. I stayed in an amazing hostel, Dougies Backpackers, where I purchased a little two man tent and found a cosy spot in the campsite. A great way to save some money and to get you out of ... read more

Arriving in Port Douglas we were pleasantly surprised as to how much of a seaside town it was.Ok it wasn't quite Clacton but definately was a man made town full of beach shops and shops for the tourists. More annoying for us was the fact that there was no free camping anywhere in or around the outskirts of Port Douglas so we had to book into a caravan park. After strolling down to the beach we had a gorgeous sunset and, as we watched a couple getting married we both started to toy with the idea ourselves (we will leave you guessing!!!) Both were feeling stir crazy from cooking in the van so decided to treat ourselves to a fish and chip supper in town tonight-gorgeous and so nice for someone else to be cooking for ... read more

Ok, so the title of the post is a little misleading, it's actually day 8 now. But in doing this i am trying my best to keep those of you who want to know.. in the know. So, we picked up our little campavan (nick named Julie) on the 8th September. 2 Days after leaving Mt Baw Baw - the unsnowiest of all snowy ski resorts. From there we spent a few days with Vic + Hernan whom we met in Sydney and have finally settled down in a suburb of Melbroune not 20mins walk from the centre. It's a nice little flat, and we wish them the best of luck there for the foreseeable future (or until vics second year visa runs out / she gets booted out the country, whichever comes first). So, the ... read more
