Hey Everybody, Well i have been in Sydney for several days now and it has been going good so far. Some of the people in the program get on my nerves but other than that things are great. I really like the aboriginal class that I am in, the history and mythology parts are right up my alley. So far we have just been exploring the city and the Sydney night life. I have been to the top of the AMP tower, that was cool b/c you learn about Australia's history and there is like a simualted ride that you go on, plus you can see the whole city from the top. Also, I went to hyde park and saw the old prisoner barracks. The shopping is amazing here!!! I want everything. Where we are staying ... read more

First German...then english that's how it works from now on! CHAT - Convention of Hospitaliy and Tourism - aren't we creative! One of my subjects last semester was Convention Management and ... read more

Entry by Gemma. We have been in Sydney for just over a week now and yet we havent actually made it into Sydney centre yet due to the knee saga! Well, it all started on Thursday 12th May when i noticed a pussy spot on my knee. Didn't think anything of it and departed as planned to Nacula island on the friday to spend the last few days relaxing before we flew to Sydney on the following tuesday. By the saturday the spot had got bigger and popped, again i didnt worry about it but my knee was getting more and more painful. On sunday and monday on the island i started to feel unwell and my knee started swelling and it was getting difficult to walk on. We were on a small island so i ... read more

Sydney was heaps of fun! We (me & Bridie) arrived at the airport in the morning and caught a train into town to the U.S embassy. We had to go through 2 security check points where they searched through every compartment of our packs. But after sitting around for ages we had a quick interview and it was all sweet and we picked up our J-1 4 month visa the next day. We stayed in a suburb called ryde with Bridie's cousin Carly and her boyfriend Paul, dead set champions! They took us out for dinner, drove us round to see all the sights and Carly even took Monday off work to take me to the airport! Thanks a lot guys! In my 5 days in Sydney I was quite happy with all the stuff I ... read more

I MADE IT! After like 22 hours on a plane and an extra 8 of layover times! I love where we are staying it is so nice. We are neighbors to the prime minister! My room mate Linzy is really nice too! Just wanted to say hey, I am at an internet cafe, but starting tomorrow we get the internet for free at the CAPA school. This week is pretty much orientation. But I found out that I will only have class on Mondays and Tuesdays... so the rest of the week is free. I have already explored the area around me and I have seen Luna Park, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House! I'll figure out how to put pictures on and send a few! Goodbye from Down Under! Hello to you all. Well the past few days have been quite eventful. I spent my 3 days here in Sydney doing various things. One day I went sightseeing with a fellow I met on the night bus from Byron Bay. We walked around the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and visited many little local heritage sights. I attended a symphony concert in the Opera House last night which was really neat to be in the world famous building. The acoustics were amazing and the music was quite entertaining. On my second day I worked for a furniture sales man delivering furniture around the Sydney area. This was a great way to see more sights beyond the city limits and get to know one of the locals. He also treated me to Fish and Chips at the ... read more

Wow the place is amazing, huge but amazing. My cousin Tom and Jo his wife are gorgeous and I'm staying with them.... taken some great photos... doesn't seem like the opera house is that big, well it is! But just not as big as the harbour bridge! Been wandering around the city which is awesome, so much water everywhere! Heading to meet Adam and when weather picks up gonna go down to bondai beach and to the heads of the harbour! Getting better today so fingers crossed! Still not caught a tan but its cold. Trying to sort out east coast there are some good deals. Have to get a certificate to serve alcohol over here, experience doesn't matter, and they're well into their gambling so need to get a certificate for that too cause there's ... read more

Absolutely shattered after two days travelling, but im here and safe in Sydney! Left all the parents at the airport crying as I went through passport control, god, embarrasing! Of course I was abit upset, as was my mum and step mum, but when my dad went, well really, I was hoping for better!!! Passport control people kept asking me if I was alright - ahhhh! Flights weren't too bad, was half empty so i had a whole 5 row of seats to myself! We were delayed by about an hour getting into Sydney. My brother Rob met me at the airport and took me to my hostel which was good of him as I obviuosly didn't have a clue were I was going! The hostel i'm staying in isn't too bad, i'm in a room ... read more

Visited the Rocks Contemporary Art...huh? I just don't get it. I tell ya sometimes I just chat and chat and before I know it the morning is gone! I should really pay more attention to the time. Feeling kinda lazy today. This afternoon I wandered down to the water again but this time to an area called the Rocks and Circular Quay where you can catch the various ferries. The Rocks is home to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Yup, confirmation that me and contemporary/modern art don't mix well. I just don't get it. Basically you can do just about anything and call it art is my impression of contemporary art. But I have a sneaking suspicious that there is more to it than that? Or perhaps not. haha Here are some examples of what was ... read more
