This is my travelling diary. Some of it is transcribed from the paper journal i am keeping, some of it is embellished as the paper journal reminds me of things that i couldn't be bothered writing. Many thanks go to my friends in Australia for buying me a diary and giving me photos to travel with. I hadn't really thought of journalling my travels before, since i usually just write it all into big emails, but internet access has been sporadic and having something to write into helps for my failing memory. The photos have been good as well since they make me smile and remember good times, also when i want to take photos of locals they help to break the ice when i show them my friends back home. Anyway i hope you enjoy ... read more

Well hello again, its 9.15pm Aus time. Today I have been mostly walking around the Olympic Park which is absolutely superb, if London's park looks half as good as this after the games then they would have done themselves proud. I didnt get to go round Stadium Australia/Telstra stadium as the Broncos and Bullgdogs were playing a rugby game. So I went off an did the $3.10 tour! For $3 you can go into the acquatic centre and have a look around instead of paying the $20 guided tour. the area it takes up is huge and the main road is 1.5km which goes from one end to the other, which I walked down. It wasnt very busy as I went during the day and it's not the school holidays here. All the facilities are still ... read more

G'Day from Downunder mate. Im sure thats totally stereotypical and incorrect, but who SPIGGING cares. Im in AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still can't believe it. 3 years of planning and Im here WOO HOO. Was pinching myself to remind myself its not a dream. Had what felt like a very long flight, didnt help with rubbish movies such as 'Guess Who' or the kids who at 3am this morning turned on all their lights so they could do colouring in (Forgot my book, Sorry C&T!). Arrived in sydney at 7am and got to the hostel at 9am. Think I woke up the people in the room when I barged in crashing into the side with my mother of a rucksack, 'quietly' put it in the locker and went walking up to the habour. This took a bit longer than ... read more

The Clarks were nice enough to take me to the Blue mountains for 2 days; which are these beautiful small mountains with sandstone cliffs. We saw the three sisters (three sort of cylindrical erroded cliffs sticking up from the side of the mountain) and the Wall, which is this massive grand canyon-esque sandstone cliff area, except grown everywhere are gum trees. It's absolutely gorgeous, yet we had pretty much the whole place to ourselves. Narelle said that it gets crowded on weekends with people escaping to their country retreats, but still, it's devoid of 'touristy' infrastructure, which I loved. We went to a huge cave, and stayed at this place called "The Cave House" which is an old country retreat big inn with a large dining hall and reading rooms and the like. It was cold ... read more

We returned to a scorching hot Sydney and stayed for a few days with Neil and Lisa. Here, we bought hop-on hop-off 45 day travel passes (for the Greyhound) to get us up to Cairns and then settled into having some fun in the best city in the world. Friday night, we saw the Finn Brothers in concert at the Opera House, with the insane Mercury Rev as support. The Opera House itself is even more impressive inside than out and the main concert hall is perhaps the best live music venue we've ever been to. We even managed to get a roadie to give us a set list after the show. On Saturday, we took the spectacular ferry ride across the harbour to Taronga Zoo - the zoo with the view - where we spent ... read more

Last day in Sydney Pack up, hang out, wait for bus. Easy going day. Not much to do when I have to leave for the airport by 1:30 this afternoon. The only thing I really had to get done before checking out this morning was to finish packing up the box I wanted to send home and walk over to the post office...8.2kg later! Amazingly that only cost me $74 to send...less than $10/kg and I must say there is less chance of injury to my back, that's for sure! Once I had that done and checked out, I put most of my stuff into a locker so that I wouldn't have to lug it around with me everywhere especially since I had plans to make a quick trip over to one of the chemists to ... read more

Lemon and honey Some favourite things for my throat Strepsils and candy. I had another night full of coughing. But I think it may be getting a little better especially after Louise was kind enough to make me some lemon and honey tea. Really felt nice on the throat and more importantly helped to stop the cough at least temporarily. I made plans to meet with Ash at 10AM but she was running late so I told her I'd meet her at the internet place since it is just downstairs from my hostel where we were meeting anyway. Our plan for the day was to start defuzzing the hairy yehti's...AKA leg waxing...that we were. My dormmate Louise was ranting and raving about a good place just a couple of blocks away from my hostel that was ... read more

Today we went to the Powerhouse museum, which is like the Franklin Institute, only not as cool..Except they had a fabulous greek exhibit. I'm very impressed with all the archeology museums/exhibits we've seen; Sydney uni has an amazing little free archaeology museum that we took a tour of. I think I'll add an archeology class. Then we went on a walking tour with other international students and met some really nice ones and had a good time. We went out for dinner and had some...KANGAROO!! and CROCODILE!!! Finally! Kangaroo is AMAZING. Really tender and juicy and fantastic. My next business venture is to raise kangaroos (in the place of cattle).. they're also better for the environment. Crocodile tastes like chicken-really. We went to a small party tonight which was reminiscent of freshman year, but we met ... read more

Sydney Opera House Lots of little walkabouts Stretch first, then proceed! I wasn't the most well rested again because of my coughing but oh well what can I do? I got up early to have some breakfast before meeting up with Ash at the Sydney Opera House for the tour. Ash was running late so we moved the plan to meet at 9AM to 9:30AM but missed the 9:30 tour by one minute. But that's okay cuz we took advantage of the free coffee next door and waited for the 10AM tour. The tour was amazing. The Opera House is just gorgeous. I wish I had the time and money to take in a performance but that's not gonna happen on this trip. After the tour we walked around the Botanical Gardens to Ms. MacQuarries Chair ... read more

Finances = Green Fitness = Amber Relationship = Green Arguments = One (Mark and Tweety Pie) Hi guys. Its our last day in Sydney and also our last full day in Australia. Neither of us can believe we're moving on or how quickly time is going. We passed our halfway point last Saturday and have just six weeks left before we come home. But there is still lots to do so enough of the grumbling and on to the recent highlights. We arrived back in Perth for the third time last Thursday and checked into our airport hotel. We must have looked very grubby and travel weary as they upgraded us to a spa suite! It was just a shame we only had one night to enjoy it as we had to fly out the next ... read more
