Day 12, 23/9/11: Today I woke up at thought "I'm gonna climb to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge", so I did! Bit costly but was well worth it. My climb was at 11:55, bang in the middle of the day and the sun was scorching; I got all kitted up in a lovely looking jump suit and had my glasses & hat on a chain as they were most likely to blow off in the wind, and they did. The whole experience was spectacular and the views were beyond real. Couldn't take your camera up there but they took a group shot which you get for free. Any others you have to pay $26 for so I decided to save my money. On the climb I learned a lot about the bridge and got free ... read more

We decided to make a second attempt at getting in to the city – this time we left much earlier to try and beat some of the work traffic. We found a parking space in Sutherland and caught the train through to Central – getting in around 9am (pretty early considering we’re on holiday at the moment!). We wandered from the station down Elizabeth St, making our way towards the harbour. We walked past Hyde Park and took a slight detour through the park to take a look at St Mary’s Cathedral - a very pretty Church and Fountain that was bathed in sunshine – a few snaps later and we continued to wander down Elizabeth St. We next spotted the Australia Conservatorium for Music which looked a bit like a Castle on top of the ... read more

Day 1: 12/09/11 After a very long flight I arrived in Sydney and got picked up from airport. Met all the other people who are doing OzIntro and freshened up, Subway for breakfast and then off for a city orientation around Sydney. Got off bus at Sydney Harbour and saw an amazing view of the bridge and Opera House, it was such weird feeling actually seeing it. I plan to go back to the Opera House at some point. Went for a walk around the Harbour, through The Botanical Gardens and then down to the Jet Boat. Went Jet boating for half an hour and got drenched, even with the big purple ponchos on. Was so amazing to be in Sydney Harbour, the jet boat was extremely fast and very bumpy but so much fun. Went ... read more

We got up bright and early on Monday morning to make it to our Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb, scheduled for 9:15 AM. The Harbour Bridge is one of the city's pride and joys - right behind the Opera House of course! When we got to Australia we were unsure whether the bridge climb would be worth the cost - and now...having done it, we're still pretty indifferent. We don't necessarily feel like it was a waste of money, because it was a cool experience to have, but at the same time - it took up half a day and YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO BRING A CAMERA! But I'm getting ahead of myself...I'm sure half of you are wondering what the climb actually consisted of, so here's the deal. For the first hour, we got prepped for ... read more

An der Strandpromenade direkt ... read more

Sunday was the first day we had sans any official plans or time constraints - so of course, we slept in! We woke up around 9:30 and made sure to make it downstairs by 10 for the complimentary breakfast provided by our B&B. The breakfast buffet consisted of fresh fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs, an assortment of meats and cheeses, and breads with various jams/spreads. Brian was quite proud of his breakfast sandwich, which consisted of a piece of toasted bread, mustard, meat and cheese, while I fell in love with crumpets! Crumpets essentially look like a “Lego my Eggo!” because it’s a piece of chewy bread with holes all in it which allows it to hold any jam or honey you spread on top! It’s delicious. I also enjoyed the fact that whether I opted ... read more

YES! We did in fact arrive in Sydney after just 24 hours of continuous travel and so far we've had an action packed trip. Our first day here, we arrived at 11:30 AM and basically wondered around all the wrong parts of the city before grabbing a quick bite to eat and passing out for the night at 6:30 PM! Yes - we fell asleep - for the night - at 6:30 PM. On our first full day, I had booked a tour to the Blue Mountains, which are about an hour and half from the city center. We were picked up at our hotel (which is ADORABLE, by the way) at 6:50 AM and didn't get home until 7:30 that night. The tour was actually much more than we expected. The company is run by ... read more

Well! Got to Sydney and it's a pleasant 25 degrees - much better than the humid 36 degrees in Hong Kong! Lovely and sunny - can't believe it's supposed to be winter here. It's warmer than our summer... Anyway, we arrived yesterday (what day was that?) and had a good look around the harbour area and the botanical gardens. Saw some wild cockatoos (or were they cockateels?) flying around in the park along with some other exotic looking birds. In the evening I went to see La Boheme at the Opera house and it was fabulous!! I had such a great time, met a lovely lady sitting next to me and shed a tear at the end - the performance was so good, and it's one of my favourite operas, a bit moving though! Today I ... read more

It’s another beautiful day in Sydney. The umbrellas are out, the rain is coming down in buckets, and mini raging rivers are flooding the streets. Awesome! We slept in a little then ventured out to check out our new neighborhood, the Rocks. The Rocks is a part of Sydney that is infamous for being the prison site in New South Wales where all the prisoners were sent by the British. The British sent the convicts down here and appointed a British governor to rule over the state. Anyway, The Rocks is now a very cool shopping district and is a stone’s throw away from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Opera House, the botanical Gardens and many other sites. We have a great view from the roof of our hotel many of these sites. On the weekends ... read more
