We woke up to a sunny day. A lady that was on dad’s staff back in Calgary was also over to help out her daughter so we met her at King’s Cross train station. We bought ourselves a My mutli pass for 5 days which covers all of our travel on trains, buses and ferries in Zone 1 in Sydney which was an awesome deal. I definitely recommend getting one if you come to Sydney. Anyways, the 4 of us headed to the harbour. It’s so surreal being in a spot that you’ve seen so many pictures of. We decided to go to an aboriginal museum they have in The Rocks area so we walked up to the address we had for it but could only find an aboriginal art gallery. It was good for mom ... read more

Fremantle was a really nice place – the stops never seem long enough to do everything we want and there certainly wasn’t time to get into Perth itself. It was a shame we were late arriving because of engine problems but they did decide to tag two hours on to the return time. Oh well there will just have to be a next time. As we arrived in port there were lots of people welcoming the boat in lining all the jetties along with lots of small boats and a couple of helicopters. Always find this quite emotional but not sure why as it is really just like train spotting and that has never given me cause to well up! It was very hot and as usual there were long queues to get off. On this ... read more

We boarded subways ferries, buses, to view the Sydney Opera House, a wonderful walk over Sydney Bridge two fantastically large cruise ships in the harbor, Manley Beach, Bondi Beach, Parks along the harbor, evening dinner at Darling Harbor, Steak and drink for $10. What a wonderful day.... read more

Im only getting time to update this blog and to all my readers, im so sorry to have kept you waiting!! After we left Singapore, we flew to Kuala Lumpur and arrived at night time. First impressions were ok. I suppose we done it the wrong way round as we were coming from Singapore which was so Westernised and clean. KL was more Asian and not as clean. We noticed first there were lots of Muslims in this city but that didnt really bother us. We decided to spend our first day mooching around the shopping centres and drinking coffees!! The second day, we went to the Petronas Towers and were told that the tickets were sold out for that day but we could buy tickets for 2 days time. Great, we didnt even have to ... read more

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a amazing night, I certainly did. My NYE of 2010 was spent on a boat cruising Sydney Harbour - totally surreal. It has been (and probably will be) the highlight of my trip. We kicked of the celebrations by popping open a bottle of bubbly on the hostel terrace over looking the harbour - best view in Sydney. We then all trotted down to the wharf and boared the boat. The boat sailed around the harbour untill 9pm when the first lot of fireworks started. They were amazing and certainly gave you a tatser of things to come. 6 hours on a boat, sailing around Sydney Harbour, dancing the night away and drinking far too much (that's what happens when it's unlimited). The fireworks at midnight were amazing! ... read more

Thursday 12-23 / Friday 12-24 Back to Queenstown for a couple days to do laundry, pack our stuff and catch up on the internet. Was hoping I could magically find the bottoms to my zip-off pants once we got back to the hostel but, sadly, no such luck. Fortunately, Nick found a way for us to watch American tv online internationally. We were able to catch up on a few Simpsons & Daily Show episodes. Ah how I’ve missed them! The Simpsons “Fight Before Christmas” was a brilliant episode! While I’m updating the blog, Nick is taking his routine nap – since we’ve been sleeping so much on the trails, he really can’t stay awake for too many hours at a time anymore (he knows it’s true). Our last night in Queenstown was spent, thanks to ... read more

Wasn’t Johnny Morris great? I can still hear him impersonating ring-tailed lemurs, thirty-plus years on. I do wonder though what he would have made of some of the creatures we have seen in the last few days. We have spent the last few days in Sydney getting to meet some of the wildlife that hopefully we won’t meet again once we pick up the camper tomorrow…Great White Sharks, Cane Toads, Box Jellyfish, Brown Snakes, Funnel Web Spiders – the list of lethal animals is fairly long! Both Taronga Zoo (Christmas Day) and Sydney Aquarium (Christmas Eve) proved really successful and fascinating days out. Our journeys to and from both attractions have shown us more of what Sydney is like. We walked to the aquarium through the busy banking district and came back via The Rocks, site ... read more

I think we felt a little like the pit ponies used to when they finished their lives of confinement and stale air and were finally ‘put out to pasture’ … The apartment we are staying in over Christmas in Sydney has a laundry room bigger than the Spaceship© … hey, it’s got a laundry room! W and E couldn’t quite believe how much space there is for the four of us and they’ve got their own beds for the first (and last) time in five (and ten) weeks. I am still scooching down to the bottom of the bed in the morning, without taking any of the covers off Diana – you try it and see how hard that is – I remain unused to having headroom, at last. Diana has a collection of mirrors, a ... read more
