Hi Everyone, Have been having lots of trouble with the Internet. And we have been busy with tours. Wednesday was the city tour, a harbour cruise, great food and views of the very expensive houses on the harbour. One was offered $90 million and refused to sell! Saw a house Elton John rented and as married in! Some are modern , some are old. One house was really fascinating, built on top of a cave. Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world! It was then off to a zoo and the Aquarium. Will try to attach pictures later. Learned lots about kangaroos. In wet season a mother can have two in her pouch and be pregnant. But she can put a pregnancy on hold for up to 2 years. Caelin, you would ... read more

Today visited the entrance to Sydney Harbour near Watsons Bay. Took the ferry from Circular Quay on the way there were three other stops but it was nice just watching the world go by. Watsons Bay looked like a really nice place to go for lunch and there were loads of people eating in restaurants dotted along the promenade, almost on the beach, so a lovely situation. I walked round to Cove beach which was almost empty just a few people going kayaking, then on to the headland and the lighthouse. Just across from the lighthouse is the entrance to Sydney Harbour and some very treacherous rocks. According to the information quite a few ships ran aground on these rocks in the early days, the lighthouse keepers cottages were still there but not open to the ... read more

I never had a heart for cities. The Great Barrier Reef was my main target in Australia. But the flight was through Sydney. I decided to stay for a couple of days and see at least the two of the iconic structures structures of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Flight from Christchurch to Sydney was with Air NewZealand, a comfortable 3.5 hour journey left me in Sydney airport before noon. As directed by Lisa (Sydney expert) took the train to Central, changed for Kings Cross and walked to Challis Lodge. The lodge appears to be an annex to an old convent, with wooden floors etc, kind of done up for tourists. As I had only two nights here I was not too concerned with with the stay. However the place was clean, quiet and ... read more

Nakonec ... read more

Well after a having a cruise around the harbour we had to wait around until 5.55pm which was the time that we were booked onto the Bridge Climb. Nervous or what especially as I do not like heights and it was getting quite windy - not in the standard of hurricane Sandy but still windy from my perspective. So we have to check in before this includes filling in a form that indemnifies them against everything and anything - would this be able to happen in the UK I don't think so! We also had to take a breath test and we weren't driving - and we passed, ha ha After this we are given these lovely blue and grey suits and a harness so we are attached to the bridge at all times - the ... read more

Amai zo vriendelijk! En we waren ... read more

I arrived here a bit scared being on my own but within a couple of hours I met a really nice American girl and we decided to do the free walking tour around the city. The tour was great, the guide took us down to the harbour, showed us various museums, old buildings (not very old considering this is Australia!), Hyde Park (named after our park!), and a bit of the Botanical gardens. I am surprised I stayed awake considering the jetlag but I just felt so excited to be in this amazing city! That evening I went out to a bar by Bondi Beach where funnily enough I ended up partying with a load of Reading guys and a couple of girls from Sweden, we played drinking games, and just chilled in the smoking area ... read more

This was one of THE days on our trip. Today was the day we were going to see The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Our backstage tour of the opera house began at 7 am, before it got busy with all the staff. This is a complete must. We got to go in all of the theaters, The Green Room, stand on the Concert Hall stage , and we even got to stand on the conductor’s platform while holding the baton. We were also let in on some industry secrets. Sitting in the seats of where the orchestra sits and having their view was unreal. Our tour ended with a custom made breakfast that hit the spot right on the mark. Australian summers hold the opera and winter is the season of the ... read more
