After an hour and a half train ride, asking about ten people for directions, and getting lost in the city for an hour, my two girl friends and I finally made it to the breath takingly beautiful Sydney Harbor. I had always dreamed of one day walking through the streets of Sydney and coming across the one of a kind opera house. But doing it in person is a memory I will never forget. The harbor is just as beautiful in person as it is in pictures. The Sydney Harbor bridge stands tall on the left side of the harbor, with the opera house sitting on the right. The water glistens in between them and boats take tourists to see the scenery that is the Sydney Harbor. The harbor kind of goes in a U shape ... read more

Quick update from Sydney after a couple of systems glitches (so no photos at the moment) and of course our great escape from Cyclone Ita. You probably saw it on the news, it was pretty bad over the Solomon Islands before hitting the coast north of Port Douglas although thankfully it quickly lost energy as it passed over land. The airport closed at midnight on the Friday so we probably could have got out on schedule but it was too close to call…..and also the weather was pretty foul so far better to head back to Sydney. On Friday morning we had the usual sporty start to the day with a mini tennis tournament taking place between the Colemans and the Colfers (Colemans still ahead as I write mainly due to various injuries limiting the Colfer ... read more

The Colemans plus Chloe, headed off today for our first trip into the centre of Sydney. A quick 5 minute trip down to the railway station and then we jumped on a train right into the middle of Sydney and the harbour front. At the weekends they have a great arrangement where you can travel anywhere in central Sydney, by train, boat or bus for $2.50 each which is about £1.50!!! Once down at the quay side we jumped on one of the many ferry boats running across the harbour and then set out across the bay towards the famous Tarranga City Zoo. Along the way we had the enevitable photo opportunity in front of the most iconic Sydney landmarks....as you can see from the photos. By this time the clouds were looming again after a ... read more

1st March Sydney, Australia Another time change last night (I think that’s 17 so far) sees us reaching one of our favourite cities. This is the first time we have arrived by sea, so we were both up at 6 am (me on deck for the first hour) to see the whole transit into the harbour. Unfortunately the weather did not want to play ball and it was quite squally and cool as we passed ‘The Heads’ and made our way towards Sydney. The 1st March is Australia’s first day of Autumn and I suppose the weather reflected that, to us it was a nice warm morning with some warm rain. We had arrived on Mardi Gras weekend and we had been warned that the ship was to be decorated with banners etc, what ... read more

Dear Followers, Oh boy, what a flight... 24 hours in an airplane. But not without scratches.. I just arrived at Elisabeth Bay Student Residence. There where some troubles, lets start of from the beginning: I had to throw away my extension cable in Dubai(Not allowed) Melbourne airport: Drug control dog check-up Incorrect power outlet converter(already bought one in Sydney) Nobody was awaiting me at the student residence(Entrance is protected with a secure code) => this code was not mailed to me, neither was my room number. No air-conditioning in the room I was lucky to catch another student on his way in and he told me the codes and some information. The housekeepers will arrive this evening to explain me everything in detail. I bought a lot beverages and easy power food in the supermarket and ... read more

We can’t all be big party goers and, this was the case for our daughter Natalie, who turned 40 recently. For years, she had always said, that when the time came, she didn’t want a big birthday bash for her 40th. Rather, she would much prefer to do something family-oriented, with just us, her family. A few ideas had been tossed around over the last couple of years when that magical number of “40”, began to loom on the horizon but, no decision had been made. About 12 months ago, our travel agent daughter, Jenni, had seen a special deal come through for a 3-day cruise on the Royal Carribean cruise ship, “Voyager of the Seas”. This seemed like the perfect family holiday and getaway for a few days, which would more than adequately fill the ... read more

Happy New Year to everyone back home! I hope you all enjoyed seeing in the new year - what did everyone do? The start of my 2014 was definitely a memorable one. We went on a boat cruise around Sydney harbour and watched the fireworks from the water, directly opposite the Sydney harbour bridge and by the Sydney Opera House. Pretty special! Check out the photos :) Lots of love, xx... read more

Hello all Well I think it is obvious I haven't updated my blog in a while. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the rest of asia I went to the computers were soo slow so i took me about an hour just to log on, and then when I got to australia, you have to pay for wifi everywhere... (grrrr ha), and then on computers you pay by the hour.. and again very slow. So now I have got my excuses out of the way, let me fill you in on what I have been doing since I last spoke to you all. Arrived into Sydney on the 3rd November ready to start my OzIntro week on the 4th. I was really excited to come into Australia, although for some random ... read more

What a gorgeous city - from our first view in the morning to walking around and seeing the downtown and port are, we vote Sydney as the most beautiful port so far on our cruise! We were berthed between the Opera House on our port side and the Sydney Harbor Bridge on the starboard side - they both looked close enough to touch and were within easy walking distance from the ship.We were very fortunate to meet up with Gerhard (from my German family) and his partner Helwi. They've been here for 4 weeks visiting Helwi's daughter Simone, husband Stephan, and their daughter Charlotte, who is very excited about turning 7 on Halloween! Simone and Stephan immigrated to Australia 15 ... read more
