We flew into Anchorage Airport on Thursday 16th June. It was a beautiful day. we wandered around and watched a band in the park then had great Sushi. WE arrived just in time for the summer Solstice weekend so it was light till 12pm. We meet a German Girl at the hostel and she offered to take us to Seward the nest day. It was a lovely drive to Seward sown through the cook inlet. We tried to spot some Beluga Whales in the Cook Inlet. We thought we saw some one breathing but it could have been a wave. We also stopped off at a big game refuge park and saw some Moose, Grizzly Bears, Bison, Elk, Caribou, Fox, Bald Eagle and an owl up close. The nest day at Seward we went out on ... read more

Just a quickie just so you know I made it this far!.. Big hold ups all the way over...from Philippine airline people saying I won't get into the states w'out an ongoing ticket....call to Grant, insist its ok...finally they let me on...then a 2 hour delay anyway....then to Sydney, then to Manilla...about 8 hours from Sydney....great to be back in hot and sweaty weather...I'll save some stories of Manila til later...extensive security checks, lightning strike that knocked out the power...more delays...then the 13 hour flight to LA....caught up with Grant, pulled into a little roadside bar and had a couple of Fosters..... Funny thing about airplane temperatures and country of origin...when I flew last year with Austrian Air the temp was quite warm....this time with Phiolippine Air they keep the temp just above freezing!.....anyone flown with ... read more

While Holly spent the day attending Carly's bridal shower in Grass Valley, I roamed around Nevada City, originally a mining camp founded along Deer Creek in 1849. Nevada City was at one time the largest and wealthiest mining town in California. At that time the third largest city in California with a population of 10,000. Nevada City's good fortune allowed miners and settlers to enjoy plush gambling establishments, hotels, saloons, and stores. However, like many big cities that sprang up quickly during the rush for instant wealth, early Nevada City shared a darker side of claim jumping, murder, brothels and opium dens. By the 1850's Nevada City's wealth began to wane, and as miners moved on in search of new claims and stories of gold and riches, a quiet and quaint city emerged. Two firestorms in ... read more

Hey Guys time for a bit of a catch up. This is what I wrote on June 14th for a journal entry. I’m writing this Blog form a lovely little flat in the middle of Vancouver. Lace and I are staying with a couple of her mates from home Tommo and Ali. Vancouver Island was great, all the people we meet where so laid back and friendly. We had a bit of a mishap on our second day in Tofino though. We had hired some bikes and successfully biked to some of the beaches further out of Tofino (it was awesome to be back at the sea) Then Kate the idiot decided she would roll her ankle!!!!! She actually hurt herself really bad and we thought it might have been broken. But Lacey is as hard ... read more

Arrived in the Grand Canyon on a very hot, I was so excited as the last time I visited it was so cloudy you couldn't actually see the canyon! Imagine I travelled all that way couldn't even see a foot infront of my own nose - gutted. Luckily for me this time it was a beautiful sunny day and the canyon was very much in sight - horray! The canyon as you will all know if you've visited it is spectacular, awesome - really no words can do it justice, so I won't bother to try! Instead I will tell you all about what we got up to there... Well, we took a guided walk with a park ranger, he told us that two men the previous week were struck down dead by bolts of lightening, ... read more

I have never been so cold in my life as I was today. We did a white water rafting trip down the Salmon River in Colorado. The water in the river is run off from the snow from all the ice caps on the top of the mountain. On top of the freezing water the weather was cold and raining. Most of the boys went in one raft and the girls and Ian went in another. Apparently, the last time the Green Tortoise trip came they were very rowdy. So, our boat guide only brought oars for one of the rafts because he was afraid we'd cause trouble. The boys got all the oars at first, but we convinced them halfway through to give a few to us. Of course, that's when the water fights started. ... read more

Week 3 was pretty good, the boys where a bit better behaved. Some of this weeks boys where funny little characters and they all luv the croc hunter. They all ask if I know him and if i wrestle crocodiles! So for the talent show this week we did a croc hunter skit. We made a cardboard croc and painted him up and named him mean Murry and had it strapped it to 2 boys backs and the rest of us where all croc hunters. And we did our best Steve impressions and jumped on Murry and carried him off to Australia zoo. But It didn't go to plan due to some boys forgetting what to do or adding a bit of improve in but all the parents had a good laugh. They all wanted to ... read more

Huatulco, Oaxaca, México 21:00 We spent a wonderful week of Oaxaca together. I believe it was one of the most marvelous weeks of my whole travel. Today she left me. She is going back home and I continue my journey south. I wrote a longer report in Spanish and Slovene.

Here I sit, with WalMart bags surrounding me and clothes spread throughout the room, preparing for my trip to Benin, Africa. I leave July 4th for Philadelphia, the ultimate destination for any true freedom celebrater. Fifty people from the United States will meet in Philadelphia for three days before we all leave for Africa. We arrive in Cotonou, Benin on July 8th, where we will begin our training. For three months, I will live with a host family in Segbouhe, Benin, not far from Cotonou, and will learn how to cook, clean, live, and play like a true Beninoise. Along with French, I will learn a native language, and I will learn the cultural rules of the society. (If this includes wearing skirts everyday, I might be in trouble....) I am very excited to go, to ... read more
