Oh please dont get me started, my heart's in the center of my chest. It starts with an itch. Everything about home becomes bland and boring. Settling into an mind bogglingly normal routine. Raisin Bran for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, meat and potatoes for supper. Get drunk once a week with the same people you've been getting drunk with once a week since high school. Diarreah once or twice a week. Damn Raisin Bran for being so delicious. I digress. Everything in Regina is Millhouse- the friends, family, the good times- unbeatable. But back to the itch... It's still there and the time has come to start scratching. The plan- Travel within Canada this summer- Winnipeg Folk Fest - July 30 weekend. August 23- leave for Eastern Canadian road trip with shipmates Ian and Darcy. The ... read more

We're planning a trip to Randolph, New Hampshire. We might stay at Bretton Woods. Will post photos when I get back.... read more

Pacific Rim Monday, June 27 we left Victoria around 1 pm, heading for Pacific Rim National Park, where we planned to camp for seven nights. We made the almost obligatory stop at Coombs to visit Goats on the Roof, but we didn’t do much shopping - we’ll be coming back this way again in a week. The ice cream cones were a bit too much to resist, however. If you love ice cream, this is the place to get it. Dozens of flavors and their single dip cone is enormous enough to feed us both. (Unfortunately we were greedy, though, and we each had our own, for which Roberta paid dearly a bit later that day.) We arrived at our destination about 6 pm, and had our first glimpse of wildlife almost the moment we entered ... read more

The standard format here will be similar to that of a play script. The person writing, whether it be me, Cheryl, or the kids, will be indicated like this: PAT: The big road trip approaches. Just 2 days, 1 hour, until we depart....if everything goes as planned. If everything goes as usual, we'll leave a couple hours later. That's just the way we are inspite of my efforts. However, we're going to try REALLY hard this time to leave on time. The goal is to have everything packed in bags & suitcases by Thursday night, with only loading up the SUV on Friday after I get off work at noon. Why the big emphasis on getting off on time??? Quite simply, Paradiso!!! When I went to college at North Dakota State University, we'd often go there ... read more

As you can probably tell, I'm not in Japan yet. But things are starting to fall into place, so I thought this would be a good time to start. I got my certificate of eligibility from Osaka, so I can mail everything to the Japanese Consulate and get my visa. I also have a housing form to fill out so that Kansai Gaidai knows where to put me. I got a new scholarship from the Warren Foundation, so the money is also finally working out. It was touch and go for a while, believe me! I talked to Zach's (ZachInJapan) mom today. He's still in Mongolia, doing well, and he'll be back in the states on the 30th of July. His mom is such a sweetheart! She told me I can stay with them for a ... read more

I am overloaded with information about New York! My first impressions were as always, completely understated. I mean my impressions are always understated, not like I go to New York all the time and I'm always dissappointed... never mind! Haha. The first thing I noticed was the heat. If I'd paid more attention to anyone or anything about New York weather, I would have known it is so much hotter than UK, but not only that, its got to be one of the hottest places on Earth! Not really, but its very very hot and humid. I'm sweating like crazy! First stop after the depressingly messy JFK airport was the hostel, but that took me ages to find! The plane was a little delayed too, but I got to my hostel, and on the way I ... read more

Hello-Hello, Well I suppose I have quite a bit of information to fill people in on. So....where do I begin... Well first off let me inform you that I have arrived in sunny Los Angeles and have started my courses at USC. The real fun, or should I say nightmare was getting here via Amtrak. To make a long and excruiciatingly boring story short I'll cut right to the chase and tell you that my train arrived 22 hours behind schedule. Yes, thats right, 22 hours. The problems arose when my initial train out of buffalo came in 4 hours late and then it just started to build on through there. We were stuck in San Antonio for 9 hours waiting for a new Engine to pick us up and and then we were plagued by ... read more

People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering.-St Augustine LINKS Name TRAVEL TIPS June 28, 2005, Tuesday This blog is out of sequence. North America » United States » Oregon June 28th 2005

Oregon has so much beauty and fun stuff to do, I have thought a lot during the drive about the landscape across the country and how much people had to sacrifice and endure to make it through the "Oregon Trail". Austin said that Oregon used to be all of Washington, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana as well. Those would probably be some of the prettiest states alltogether. But considering our roots as explorers, or pilgrims, no wonder our heritage is individualistic in some senses. But adventuresome in the postive sense. Through the trip a verse from Psalm 84 has been going through my mind..... " Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. .............6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the ... read more
