Yes, I admit, it is still snowing and below zero at the moment, but the flowers are coming, so it's officially spring (even if it "officially" started on March 21st). I have even participated in my very first maple tapping, in order to tick one of the "to Do in Canada" things off my list (still waiting to see a moose or beaver). ... read more

The computer just erased my entry so here I go again. It is Good Friday here in Oaxaca and it is a different sort of easter weekend than back home. Although many mexicans have gone to the beach for the holidays, I have not seen an Easter Bunny - either of fur or chocolate. it is still a religious holday here with processions and church events. Today there have been several processions from different churchs with Jesus in his purple robe and crown of thorns carrying a cross being carried, with sombre music usually on horns, often (always?) incorporating the way of the cross which I dont really understand. One procession was of the Virgin Mary (who with the virginde guadeloupe is extremely important here in mexico with shrines and is often prayed to) which met ... read more

True to his word, Scott was there to meet us and while he´d made a few enquiries about the fishing, he hadn´t booked anything. We also found out that he was still with Si and Ayesha and so we headed over to the beach and caught up with them. As luck would have it, they were also staying at hotel Ines which was quite a coincidence. After a brief rendevouz and a spot of lunch we then spent the afternoon booking up bus tickets for the forthcoming trips, as well as arranging a bird-watching / kayaking trip for the following morning at a lagoon just outside Escondido. This all had to be done in the town centre which was a bit of a hike and away from the beach and so it took a while. ... read more

Here I am, I will write this one in english for my many friends who don't speak French.... As you can see, I just arrived in New York, where I stay at Anne Helene's, my best friend. So I am twice as excited to be in this great city with this great friend of mine. Anne is currently studying art history so my activities so far have been mostly cultural : art galleries in Chelsea, Metropolitan Museum of Arts and National Gallery... I am staying on Greenwich village which is a nice area with plenty of shops, restaurants, and whatever else you might need. Also, yo my surprise : IT IS COLD HERE, it even snowed a little bit this morning, which was such a shock after the two weeks I spent In Miami ....I ... read more

Fatigue or sun stroke, the cause of my chronic napping was unclear. All I can say is, it seems to have been induced by the West Texas Desert. My dear friend Megan went to the trouble of taking me on a scenic roadtrip-- what became a sleeping touring of gorgeous garden desert landscapes. Jet Lag or Desert Hag? I remember the first day I began the Spring Break Countdown on my computer three months ago. When I typed in the date of the 6th of April, it appeared to be an infinite time away. Yet, here we are today, the infinite has become the present. A year ago when I first visited Istanbul, Turkey I had to repeat a reoccurring ritual of pinching myself to make sure it was not a dream. In simpler terms, I figured I would have been visiting outer space before Asia. However, here I am again, traveling to the very place I realistically should have never visited in the first place! Perhaps it was the Turkish Eye I purchased last year, promising return to Turkey of the buyer. Or perhaps it is the utter fascination of the unfamiliar that ... read more
