Hello and welcome to our travel blog! Currently, we are still at home in Edmonton/Spruce Grove. We just thought we'd set up our blog as we are going to be VERY busy in the coming weeks. This weekend is Easter, next weekend we will hopefully have a new home for Dennis (and me in 8 months!) to get started on renovations, and then we have a wedding and a retreat! BUSY! We are leaving April 30th for a month of travels in Greece and Italy. We are starting off in Athens before hitting the Cyclades islands for 3 weeks until we fly to Rome for a week in the eternal city (and a couple days in Tuscany!). Currently, Dennis is finishing up his masters in structural engineering at the University of Alberta, as well as working ... read more

OD What an expearince! Last evening, after I did my entry, we had three men walk down to the shelter. They looked rougher than either of us felt. It was a father and two of his sons. They settled around the fire to warm their bones before attempting to cook supper. They were from the Philly area and heading home. They said their truck was parked at bottom of the mountain we were on. With a couple hours of daylight left I told them they could be at the truck in an hour or less. The father said he could not walk 10 feet more and would go down the mountain in the morning after a nights rest. I told them the couple that had just passed through said it would be mighty cold and ... read more

The girls and I set off for Folsom on Saturday morning. We arrived in the middle of the "unloading" of our moving trucks...boxes and paper and furniture everywhere. Seeing the house for the first time was AWESOME! We love it. Dad picked a great place!! There are wild turkeys roaming around in the mornings...lots of beautiful California oak trees...rolling hills. Sunset is beautiful to take in every night... We are moving in and making it our "home." Slowly but surely! ... read more

Wes and I left Gainesville to make it to my Aunt Emily’s house in Sarasota for Easter dinner. She lives there with her husband Michael and daughter Michelle, in a house not far from the gulf coast and Siesta Key. Michael’s family was in town for a family reunion, so we got to meet some of his siblings and had a great Easter dinner with everyone. I hadn’t seen my aunt since our family reunion in 2005, and her daughter has grown so much since then. While we were there, Wes and I rode our bicycles out to Siesta Key twice. The first time, it had rained for most of the day and we missed most of the daylight hours at the beach, but the next day we rode back again and spent a few ... read more

Florida map two PierceHello all! I have made it most of the way through Florida with a brutal head wind most of the way. I guess lately that wind has brought cooler temps for a change. Since Juno Beach I've spent many nights along the beautiful Florida coast. I spent the night in Hobe Sound after a great bistro dinner, live music and free beer. I slept in a field on the edge of town and provided the mosquitoes a good meal. I slept pretty good though as long as I ignored the buzing mosquitoes and the rumbling freight trains nearby. The next day I traveled up the coast through Stuart, Fort Pierce, and into Vero Beach. I hadn't slept in a bed for a few days so I stayed in a budget inn. I think ... read more

Well. I am officially back home in the US. But before I talk about that, let me sum up my last week in Israel. Last weekend, after my cousin Lisa left me, I went to my cousins for Shabbat, and then Saturday night, I went back to my friends's house where I had been staying for a few weeks. I spent Sunday with my friend Abigail, walking around town, and just hanging out, and said goodbye to all my friends in the house, pack up my stuff and went to my cousins again, for Pesach. So, Monday night was the seder. I went to my religious cousin's house in Bnei Brak. It was all of my favorite cousins who I have spent a lot of time with over the last 9 months, religious and non religious. ... read more

OD Did a nice 10 miles today. It got cold last night and for the second day we had snow flakes drifting down during breakfast. Was in the high 20s last night. Most of the day it never went much above 40 deg but without the wind of yesterday it made walking very comfortable. Only saw one north bound section hiker about 11:30 and had a couple of weekend hikers stop here for a short chat on their way north. We are about 1/2 mile north of the Shenandoah National Park at about 2500ft. The last couple said the temp tonight might drop into the teens. That is just below what our stuff is rated for, so it will be wear everything you have to bed tonight. Then hope for the best. We have been ... read more
