Dahna: Homesickness: Symptoms: feeling isolated, dis-connected, alien, unknown, invisible and lonely. Perhaps slight anxiety and just a sense of a general anti-climax. It can make you become strangely and uncharacteristically patriotic and start to think warmly of things that you would formerly have ridiculed, or atleast not even given a thought to. Causes: perpetual itchy feet that lead one to foreign destinations likely to trigger the illness. If the affected person happens to like hot climates, he or she is more likely to suffer the illness if he or she travels to a cold destination, and visa versa. The flight from Providence was the smoothest I've ever been on. And that's the highlight. Once I got my rental car, I tried in vain to find the street the hotel is on. After wandering aimlessly through some local streets and neighborhoods, I decided to go back to the airport and begin my search again. The people who designed the streets in Boston and Chicago must have been one and the same. Finally, after much meandering, I found the right road and the hotel shortly after. The hotel is quite nice, so I decided to spend the better part of the afternoon catching up on email and relaxing. I'll grab a bite and then try to find where I have to be tomorrow. If anyone's considering driving from San Francisco to Miami by themselves, I have one piece of advice...don't - it's mind numbingly tedious and there's a liklihood that you could slip quietly into insanity without really noticing. After a great Snow Patrol gig in Dallas I decided to head north on the backroads towards a place called Clinton in Oklahoma, which is another no-mark town of little interest to anyone other than Route 66 fans, as it houses the Route 66 museum. I nipped into the museum for a few minutes, which was fairly interesting and then repaired to a traditional R66 motel. Traditional of course means cheap hovel, but after another five hours of mind numbing boredom behind the wheel it would do fine. Last day in NY, and the States...... crying. But Ana and I (Kate) have just been to Tiffany's, mooching down 5th ave, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, YSL all the money...... and then, right by Central park poped up a little clear box with an apple in it. Stroll down the spiral staircase into the Mac store where the cool computer geeks live (lacking in sugar, seriously I've been floored by the general NY male population) and just thought it would be ideal to write a blog entry because well hey this cute little MacBook just happened to be spare (there are about 100 just kicking round for everyone to use) Dad would be in HEAVEN (do it when you come) and Mum leave him here while you shop down the road.
