Today we set off from LA to Monterey. After waiting for ages at Alamo as their computers aren't working, we pick out our Pontiac GT. It's nice, it's very nice and it goes very very fast. The speed is wasted as the speed limit is 65 in all the states we're visiting. We set the Sat Nav for Monterey and drive via Pacific Coast Highway. Kev pulls over in Santa Monica so I can take photos of the pier, it's the one used in the Lost Boys and makes me feel like I'm a teenager again. As we drive up the beach I spot a Taco Bell and as we missed breakfast, it's chicken burritos at 10.30am! We leave Santa Monica, still on Pacific Coast Highway, drive through Malibu and gawp at the beautiful beach ... read more

Telus Music Festival North America » Canada » British Columbia » Whistler Village By Sazzle DazzleApril 16th 2007 A week in Whistler and the free festival has certainly been my savour! The music has been awesome and I've discovered a new understanding and appreciation for regee and drum and bass again! This scene is massive over here so I've been loving the vibes! So we saw Bassnectar on Saturday night and then Steve Marley, K9 and Jr Gong on Sunday. It was immense and Byron and I bounced around in the crowd the entire afternoon. We hit Tommy's after where some wicked chick from Toro... read more

Astoria, Tillamook, and Columbia Gorge North America » United States » Oregon » Columbia River Gorge » Cascade Locks By Danielle and PaulApril 16th 2007 And we're off!! We've reached Oregon, which means we added another state to our sticky map that displays all of the states in our main camper window. Washington, and now Oregon! We started way up in the northwest corner, at Astoria. The "astoria column" (woohoo!) was the official first stop on our trip, which we had to pay... read more

San Francisco until the 1849 Californian gold rush was just a sleepy hamlet of 300 people that changed dramatically after the rush. Once installed in the hotel decided to explore locally as I had arrived in the morning and so to maximize my time headed for Union Square. San Francisco is all hills and like South America all the interesting stuff seems to be at the top, or “it’s only 2/3 blocks away” (what they don’t mention is that each block is at least 200 metres). Eventually found Union Square, a square in the true sense, very much a meeting place and an area for displaying artwork .On each side is some of the top stores in the States, If you have unlimited credit this is the place to shop, Macys, Tiffany, Saks etc are ... read more

Early to bed and early to rise. We woke up to an absolutely stunning day - sunshine and a breeze, so it was not too hot. It’s the kind of day I dream about during January in England when the whole world is dark, wet and cold. We were on the road before 9:00, heading south down Florida’s Turnpike. After a two hour drive, we arrived at US Route 1 and mile marker 126 - the official start of the Keys. Deciding that we had driven enough, we stopped at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on Key Largo. This is a very cool place. It is the first undersea park in the United States and it is the only living coral reef in the continental United States. As we didn’t really have time to do ... read more

Things to do on a School Night: The Flying Saucer North America » United States » North Carolina » Charlotte By _Gaby_April 16th 2007GabyJa jag tänkte uppdatera ställen vi hängde på, så som The Flying Saucer, som Henrik fann via sina house-mates (ja han bodde off-campus). Men i vilket ... read more

From Grand Canyon we headed south to Flagstaff and there were those two digits popping up again as we spied our first 66 attraction, the Museum Club. Unfortunately at 11 A.M. we were about 12 hours too early in the day to appreciate the atmosphere and enjoy any live music in the place voted ‘Readers favourite Dance club’ in ‘Country America Magazine’ but we were able to pop in and enjoy the route 66 print material in the booths and the amateur taxidermist owner’s handiwork. Passing the famous wooden carved Twin Arrows, that had obviously seen better days, our next detour was just 6 miles south of our main route to the world’s best-preserved and first proven meteorite impact site. Amazingly our ‘tour guide’ of the hole in the ground managed to make the ‘tour’ last ... read more
