We arrived in Manhattan at 3 pm. During the fifteen minutes that we were parked out in front of our hotel while we were checking in, we received two parking tickets…one for $115 and one for $90. New York City doesn’t waste any time. It’s really a busy city. Our hotel had a nice view of the Empire State building. We took the obligatory trip to Times square at about 2 AM and walked the streets of the city until 6 AM when we finally made it back to the hotel.... read more

The place to be voor alle stoere mannen en vrouwen.

Jaja ‘we made it’.

We slept in until it was after noon.  Waking, dozing, relaxing, then napping again!  This is no later than many normal days at home.  The thing is, when we rolled out of bed it was only 8 AM Hawaii time.  We even got down to the hotel restaurant for a decent breakfast.  Pretty unusual for us to get breakfast during the normal hours.   We took a short walk around the hotel.  There wasn’t much to see since the street ran under a multilane freeway type road.  Then off we went to catch the city bus to the Waikiki area.  The bus driver was a woman and very nice.  She only charged us a dollar each since we are so old.   The bus ride took an hour or so to get to the end of ... read more

This is a memorablog- trip that were done long before I maintained a travelblog. Time & bad memory do contribute. So, would be unable to write as much as I would love to. Ok! there goes racking of my brain; Memorial day vacation May 28th 2004 - June 6th-2004 The initial plan was just me & my hubby, but later we had another couple join us. It was a very exciting moment for me as it was my first long vacation outside CA., ie if you do not consider a Vegas honeymoon as a vacation The first time we planned for this vacation, I wanted to do Alaska & Ganesh wanted to do Yellowstone. I think I made it very clear that I was making a compromise We were going to fly into Salt Lake City(SLC, ... read more

We are now at Memaloose State Park near The Dalles Oregon. We are volunteer camp hosts at the campground. The park itself is fairly small, about 60 campsites including both tenting sites and areas for RVs with full hook-ups. Camphosts usually get the best campsites and we are no exception. The windows of our trailer look out onto the Columbia River Gorge and the island from which this park takes it’s name, Memaloose. Memaloose was a sacred indian burial ground on an island in the middle of the river. There are no indians buried there now, only a white man who wanted to be buried with the indians. When a nearby dam was built it caused the water level around the island to rise and now most of the island is underwater. The tribes came and ... read more

Today I drove home from Ashburn, Virginia to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Riding solo gives you plenty of time to think, listen to music, eat junk and get bored.  In the town of Breezewood (Pennsylvania?), I encountered a huge swarm of cicadas.  I got out of my car to get some gas and I literally stepped on dozens of these dead creatures.  Their were hundreds of them aimlessly swarming the sky and two of them even made it into my car.  I had to roll up the windows and suffer the heat. There was a semi that was flipped over just south of Detroit that delayed my trip for about an hour.  I was extremely bored for this hour as I just wanted to be home to visit my fiancee. Made it to Grand Rapids around 8 ... read more

Well, our ride to the airport vanished in a cloud of dust when some cop thing took our limo with the wire screen and the chauffer away at the last minute.  Elen, his wife, offered to take us in her pickup.  I declined because I would have had to share the pickup bed with the luggage and their German Shepard who has big teeth.  We ended up taking our car to the airport long term parking. Ugh.    The shuttle bus took us to a point about 30 feet from the curbside check.  We were quickly checked in at the side of the curb. Then we went to the counter to have our bad window seat changed to a nice aisle seat way up front in row 12.  The girl who had the window seat there ... read more

Dave and I fixed my car this morning (fuel leak) and then decided to take a bike ride to a town called Leesburg.  There was a really nice trail that we took.  7.5 miles to Leesburg.  When we got to Leesburg, we stopped for a sandwich at the really cool italian deli called Pruccio's or something.  The owner was very italian and a really nice guy.  Then we rode our bikes back to Dave's house in Ashburn.  I mowed Dave's lawn.  This is the first time that I used a lawnmower.  Can you believe that?  We had chili dogs for dinner that we grilled.  We ate out on the deck and enjoyed some good food and good conversation. I will be leaving for Colonial Beach, Virginia tomorrow morning to go to HP works to get my ... read more
