This is only the 2nd day we have seen the sun since we arrived in Texas.Jim and I have been busy however. First we have explored the Hill Country, visiting LBJ's boyhood home,(we were too late to visit his ranch). We watched as art glass was made in Wimberley, and bicycled the Guadalupe River Valley. We happened on the river road accidently and rode most of it with no traffic at this time of year. In San Antonio we rode the trolley all over town, had dinner at Landry's on the Riverwalk and attended the San Antonio Symphony. This was our Valentine's Day Celebration. The symphony is very good, (but not as good as the Pittsburgh!) The Majestic Theatre where they play is a part of the fun. It is very heavy, dark Spanish mission(mostly)and reminded ... read more

On Sunday, February 13th it was 75 and sunny! We biked among the 4 missions along the San Antonio River, south of town and up into the city to the restored historic homes along the river closer to town. It was good biking everywhere. Trails are best but not often available, so city streets with low traffic or country roads work well also. In the mission ruins I could see the beauty everywhere. I just wish I had had more time and more memory space! It was a glorious ride. ... read more

I love to travel, But hate to arrive --Albert Einstein February 13, 2005, Sunday. This was a travel day and it rained and rained. This is perhaps the heaviest rain day since we left Pittsburgh early in January. We drove from bayou country, LA, to Natchez, MS. Natchez was our destination because of the well know bike trail. It runs over 400 miles from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN. The Natchez and Choctaw Indians used this “trace” for hunting and later this same path was used by the merchants that floated their goods down the Mississippi. They sold their wares, even the boat for lumber, and walked home on the Natchez Trace, some to Nashville, and others as far as “Pittsburgh”. Natchez is a Parkway for autos, two lanes, 50 mph, but also a bike ... read more

Tomorrow Katherine and I will be headed back to Memphis. This area is under a snow warning tonight and tomorrow morning. We're taking the shuttle to Salt Lake City Airport, so Pam doesn't have to worry about drivng us in the snow. Here we are finally one day away from our Disney Cruise to Cozumel Mexico. We have been keeping busy...after travel from Iowa to see family we stopped in Nashville at the Opryland Hotel. The Opryland Hotel is such an usual place. There are huge plant filled atriums. One with a boat ride through the "swamp"! The girls did their school work on the balcony overlooking the atrium. While in Tennessee we enjoyed visiting with some dear friends Carmen, Jann, Linda, Scott, Valerie and Rachel. We're gonna miss them all! We are back to Florida now. This week we celebrated j's birthday at the Portifino Hotel, a beautiful place. The hotel is designed to look like Portifino Italy. The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway. --Henry Boye February 11, Friday. We decided to take a cooking class at 10AM and learn about the wonderful jambalaya, shrimp pie and banana Forster. For $20 it was a bargain, we received the recipe, watched it being made and eat a wonderful meal. After our cooking class, we wandered through the Riverwalk mall. We decided to take the taxi ferry over to Algiers Point, across the Mississippi. Mardi Gras World has all of the floats from many Mardi Gras’ on display and they explain how they are made and utilized. We had some of King’s cake, a very sweet cinnamon cake with lots of icing and a baby Jesus (doll) hidden inside. If your slice has the “Jesus” you get a ... read more
