... read more

Last night my sister and I went downtown to the Orpheum to see Miss Saigon. The Orpheum Theatre is Memphis’s grandest theatre venue. It’s home to Opera Memphis, Ballet Memphis and touring Broadway productions (like Miss Saigon), but my favorite time to go to the Orpheum is during the Summer, when they show classic movies. Where else can you go to hiss at the baroness from Sound of Music or sing along with Ethel Merman? Orpheum audiences are the best! ... read more

Hi all, This is our last full day at sea before we dock in Honolulu tomorrow (Thursday). Quiet and restful, except for the sea which was a bit rough, though not as much as yesterday. Nobody is seasick so far as we know, probably because of the stabilizers on the ship. These are big "wings" that stick out on each side of the ship below the water line, that keep it from rolling from side to side. We can feel the ship plowing into big waves but it's just up-and-down with no rolling, which is probably what makes for sea sickness. The weather has been fairly good, just a brief thunderstorm or two. Dick has a couple of pictures to put here of the interior of the ship. It's very beautiful, with lots of carpet and ... read more

On our day in Honolulu we had lunch at very nice country club. We started with raw Fish, Tuna and Octopus. The Octopus was very tough. Next was a salad followed by a fish course and then desert. There was lots of Hawaiian music and a beauaful setting. We returned the 10 miles to the city and were dropped off at the Art Academe .We returned to the ship at about 4:30. There were other Events which ocurred that we will talk about in a few days. Dick... read more

Hey everyone, it's a laundry day, which also means it's time to say hello from Crested Butte. Here's the latest. So last I wrote Dave and I were in Durango, getting a little restless. The weather was beautiful, but a lot of the roads were still closed. I found out on Wed of that week that Silverton was without power, and all roads into the town were closed, and the website had big bold red lettering telling people that anyone with a reservation for Thurs and Fri would have to cancel and get a refund. So no Silverton for Dave and I, of course the people at the mountain swore up and down that this NEVER happens, and that they hadn't seen this much snow in 15 years. So instead of making the trip to Silverton ... read more

Hello there! Well, we finally made it. Right now, we're knackered - have nearly been up for 24 hours and it's still only 6.30pm here. Flight was good, if a little long but we managed to get in three films and at least that many meals so can't complain too much. Sights as we landed were amazing - will post photos soon (still working on it!). Didn't quite make it to the strip - our hostel is slightly downtown of the main city. Just had a wander round the little arcade at the end of the road we're staying on and the neon was humming. Managed to book ourselves on a trip to the Grand Canyon tomorrow - looks great - so it's up at 7 for the bus. Yippee! Gotta go - we're off to ... read more

... read more

Katherine and I were supposed to be in Germany on January 13th, but we’re still in Memphis waiting on new passports. Rather than mope about it, we’ve decided to make the best of our time left in the states. Memphis is my hometown, and I love it here. There’s tons of stuff to do. If you haven’t seen Memphis in the last five years, you really should come visit. Downtown has grown a lot since the arrival of the Grizzlies. This morning Katherine and I went to the Children’s Museum of Memphis. Although most of the exhibits are designed for children, there are plenty of things for babies and toddlers (12 months and up) to do. Today Katherine had a great time dancing on stage in a fairy costume shaking maracas, coloring a picture at the ... read more
