Everything is pulled together. Paul, my son called from Berlin very early this AM wondering if we'd left for London and informed me there had been a t. bombing in Central London! I've gotten this far, so how can I let this incident stop us? Today, I set about copying documents I've been collecting over the years. Our time in Paris and french countryside seems almost Da Vinci code-ish! Before we trek into the french countryside to explore an ancestoral village/s and possibly see if there is a shrine been built for a recently canonized family member (Augustus Schoeffler) I want to track down two paintings supposedly housed in an obscure museum in Paris of Augustus S-- "The Seminary Museum." This is a driving day, and our first connect spot was Haines Junction, then on to Kluane. Again we got stuck on a dirt road at Destruction Bay. The water is a magnificent blue/green color, it has something to do with the crushed shells and the way the colors are absorbed by the sun, but it is beautiful. We took a couple of pictures as we waited for the “pilot car” to lead us through the construction area. Destruction Bay is one of several towns that grew out of the building of the Alaska Highway. More on that title later. The Tillamook area seems almost out of place. The smell of cow manure hangs in the air...not enough for it to be a problem, but enough to make you think you're in Iowa. Given that Tillamook's claim to fame is their cheese, and you need milk to make cheese, and you need cows to make milk, and one of the byproducts of cows is manure, it all makes sense. We at breakfast in the room. We brought cereal and milk for those mornings where we werent' staying in a place that had complimentary breakfast. After that we headed to the nearby Tillamook Cheese Factory. If our kids could live on one food, it would be cheese, so there was no way we'd skip this place. Well most people who read this know that in August I will be leaving for Japan for the fall semester, Ausgust 18th to be exact. I know there are also many who having seen my success at keeping up with my last webpage will doubt me, well I might get lazy so get over it.
