Hey...what's up everyone. It has been quite some time since I have blogged and I am actually home now. I arrived home safely last night. Let me fill you in on my London experiences and my times with my fam in Provence and Paris. First, I have something to say about the tube blasts in Central London. I stayed in London June 21-24, then I came back on the night of the 5th and flew out of Heathrow on the morning of the 6th. The blast occured between 8:50 am and about 9:20 am this morning, July 7th. I was headed to the airport via the tube at 7:40 am on the 6th and arrived there at about 9 am. That means I was there almost exactly 25 hours before this happened. When I first stayed ... read more

Around this area of Los Angeles it's common knowledge that if your out on your own any later than 10pm at night you might as well stick a sign on your back that says mug me. As it turns out the USC campus is located just on the fringe of that infamous criminal hotspot; South central L.A. Also home to the neighborhood of Compton, an area well known for its magical ability to boost the street cred of any hard core gangsta rapper. Now I must admit I've been warned a number of times about going out on my own at night, mostly by individuals who heard from a friend of a friend that they knew a guy who had a sister who's best friend's cousin got jumped while they were walking home from class one ... read more

Howdy Partners! Have now spent so much time in the mid-west I feel like a pro-cowgirl. Can ride a horse, drive cattle and ride bulls with the best of 'em. After LA, cousins Michael, Heather, Spenser & Mallory v. kindly put us up for a few days. It was brilliant to see them all and they really looked after us. Have been 'hiking' in Yosemite and the Rockies, learnt about the Mormons in Salt Lake City, spent some time at a beautiful Ranch in Wyoming, seen 200 bears (in a safari park) and visited so many amazing little towns where we were the only people not wearing cowboy gear! One bar really made me feel like I was on a movie set for an old western and Karl was convinced the cowboys would 'make him dance' ... read more

Today we reached the beach! My sister and her kids went with us and we headed north out of Portland, then west to Astoria. There we crossed a 4.1-mile bridge over the Columbia River, with a main span of 1232 feet, making it the longest continuous truss in the world. I told the kids that but they were less than impressed. They did like crossing the bridge though. Construction of the bridge started in 1962 and finished in 1966. The approach ramp on the Oregon side curves through a full 360 degrees. Again, the kids didn't seem to care. After crossing the bridge into Washington, we headed for the Long Beach Lighthouse, the first of many we would see on this trip. The view from there was awesome. It would be the first of many awesome ... read more

Remember that happiness is a way of travel - not a destination. Roy M. Goodman If you are interested We up date the entry with the bear in Deneli July 6, 2005, Wednesday. We finally got up, in the rain, at 5:30 6:00 AM. Had some breakfast, packed up wet gear and began hiking out. The trail has, what the Ranger described as, a boardwalk, but it is actually two planks nailed on a support over swampy areas. Just one night of heavy rain and the growth that occurred was astounding. The Alaskan vegetation is like mother-nature on steroids. Our hike out, was faster than our hike in. It was good to see our vehicle still sitting there safe and sound. We drove into Skagway to pick up a few things before starting our drive ... read more

Location: Jasper, IN So many thoughts, So many feelings, so little time and words to express them with. Today went incredible- the 2 shows went very smooth- a few kids forgetting lines, but others very quickly picking up cues. I worked backstage, and Megan played Baloo. Afterwards, as I was taking down the set with a couple parents and I didn’t get a chance to say “Goodbye” to a lot of the kids (or rather most of the kids). I keep thinking back to the last things I said to them (probably something like “Shhhhhhhhh…. Keep your legs crossed”) and wishing it had been something more encouraging. But I have to remember that these kids will be remembering this whole past week, not just my last words. And as Megan put it, who was feeling the ... read more

Continuing on, we first stopped at Cannon Beach to see the famous Haystock Rock. One travel book I read said there are about 6 places in Oregon that have a "Haystack Rock", but this is the most famous. We got our toes wet, jumped the waves, splashed around and generally had a great time. Leaving Cannon Beach we went further south to Arcadia Beach where we saw all kinds of cool things, like starfish, barnacles, crabs, anenomes, and sand crabs. Eric, my nephew, showed us how you can grab a handfull of sand near the water, throw it on the ground and watch all kinds of tiny little sandcrabs wiggle around until they quickly borrow back in the sand without a trace. One other thing I did here was to start taking photos of my neice, ... read more

we arrived in Truth or Consequences or TORC, as the locals call it, at 3 in the morning.... and were met by a sweet hippie lady and her dog bruno. we crashed and woke to the heat, as per usual. we spent the morning lounging in mineral baths and went swimming in the rio grande... it was amazing! the afternoon we seemed to linger, unable to get out of TORC... first it was the yummy smoothies and then it was a cool thrift store called the Old Rose... and then about an hour in a health food store with an old lady who apparently loves us.... eventually we got out of there and headed through the hill country. we arrived in arizona at our campsite quite late... we wanted to stay there because it is in ... read more

Weds 6th July - Dallas calls Deb gets cash out without losing card. Hurrah. Buy Owen another watch then it is off to the bus station. Catch the 2pm to Dallas. Border guard tells us the Olympics will be in London 2012. We invite him to stay. Bus fills up. Thursday 7th July - Dallas 7:30am at Autobuses Americanos terminal. No idea where we are. Get a cab to the Quality Inn. Fortunately our room is available and we are early enough to have breakfast. Weather is quite wild, strong winds, lots of rain. Later calms down and we try the pool. Today I bid farewell to my family, friends and co-workers...I will miss you all! I am finally and utterly unemployed. Plus I am homeless. From now on it's just me, my passport, and the ATM card. It's all a part of my poverty immersion therapy to detox me from the business school indoctrination. It's a spiritual quest of sorts. From now on it's prophets, not profits that I follow (at least until September when school resumes). So, why does it always comes down to the night before the trip, and I am up with chores to do. I guess this is why people are shocked that I am working up to the day before I leave. Well, I say sleep is for the weak. Booyah! First off, sorry to the neighbors who might be disturbed by ... read more
