Travel to Seattle In July 2008, I travelled to Seattle by car from Cincinnati with my brother. It was a 3000 mile journey through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Washington states. My brother was relocating from Cincinnati to Seattle in Jul7 08. He called me to join him in driving through to Seattle. I was in India and flew to Cincinnati. It was my first trip to US. I had been to Europe few times and this was a totally different experience to see a vast country. I arrived in Chicago on 5th Jul 2008. My brother was there to receive me at the airport. We stayed at the Extended Stay America hotel. Next day 6th Jul, we drove to South Bend, Indiana to visit my brother's church and his old ... read more

Left Las Vegas late this morning and headed thru the desert again towards the Grand Canyon, approx 4.5 hrs driving time. Stopped along the way at the majestic Hoover Dam for a guided tour thru the power plant which was really worthwhile. This took us way down deep into the area where the huge water intake tunnels were and then to see some of the 17 turbines in action. Having seen a tv documentary a few years ago on the construction of the dam, it was even more interesting. Carried on along the 4 lane highway at an average of 80 miles per hour for the next three and a half hours thru really boring countryside and long straight stretches of road till we reached the Grand Canyon just on sunset. Unfortunately it was a cloudy ... read more

Thursday October 2, 2008 We’ve run out of superlatives. There are no more that we can use. Just when we thought we had seen the best, yet another even better visual and geological feast awaited us in Bryce Canyon National Park. We allocated a whole day to Bryce - not enough time! The overlooks can be done in a day by travelling the 12 miles from the Park gate to the 9700 foot high point at the south end of the drivable area. But the hiking is a must not miss. Written description cannot do justice to the beauty of the canyon hoodoos in cream and pink and white. Have a look at our pictures with this blog. We took nearly 200 but could only publish a few. OK, there are 42 - we couldn’t cull ... read more

She came to us as a puppy, unexpectedly dropped off on our front door 13 years ago at a time when having a dog was absolutely out of the question. But MaryAnne and Craig wanted her and they begged and made promises and I gave in, as I always did. Those first few weeks she barked all the time, was difficult to house train and for the next 13 years destroyed everything in her path during thunderstorms. Holidays involving fireworks were dreaded unless she was heavily sedated. We learned this the hard way after an especially unfortunate incident involving plumbing fixtures, a flooded laundry room and fireworks on the 4th of July. She was hyperactive and argumentative and would pick a fight with every dog she didn't like. Once she almost got us kicked out of ... read more

Day93- Friday This is a quick update. More later, but no time to spare. Travel is really a hectic pastime! Tuesday evening I flew to NY after spending the morning at the Getty Centre. Wonderful place. Then taxi to the airport.Arrived after midnight at hotel. This one is really cute. Quite small and friendly. Tiny room but clean and cosy. In 49th between Broadway and 7th Avenue. Chicago , one of the shows I hope to squeeze in is playing across the street. And St Malachy"s, the actors chapel is opposite! It is an amazing location...walk away from Broadway to 9th and there is the really NY...washed clothes in a laundry for 3 dollars...whilst having breakfast with all manner of locals on theri way to work. 49th between 8th and 9th is mainly walk up apartments ... read more

Its Friday morning here. Its been a great week. TJ and Bri have been cooking up some great dinners. Bri has made taco salad and clam chowder. YUM! Definitely getting the recipes for those. TJ made corned beef and I made up some white sauce for it. They said they had never heard of it and they usually only serve corned beef with mustard. Turns out white sauce is gravy to them, as in the gravy they use for breakfast biscuits and gravy. So Bri made that for breakfast as well. Wednesday night, Bri organised a girls night out. It was her and I, Sara, Bri's friend Michelle and Bri's sister Mal. We had a fantastic night. We hit a little bar in town. Being a Wednesday night it wasn't too busy and of course, we ... read more

Such a peaceful little town was New Market even though I-81 buzzed along in the distance down the hill from the motel.Great breakfast including what has become a favourite, waffles with maple syrup !! Kelly was without Regis this morning so she wasnt so interesting. She had her husband in replacement and he didnt have the same spark as Regis does(perhaps she married the wrong guy, although Regis was probably already married when their show started a few years ago) Soon it was time to hit the road again and back to the Skyway. We planned a few walks for today and the first was at Stony Man cliffs which was a quiet stroll in the forest to a rock face. The trail led on up to the top of Stony Man but we had other trails to do so it ... read more

Spent today exploring and walking around San Fran, and walk we did, 23km worth of walking. Checked out Chinatown and the Italian areas and then decided to walk to the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge looks a lot closer than what it actually is, and it gets bigger the closer you get. (Duh, really!?) So we walked to it and then across it, dodging all the cyclist which seemed to be everywhere. There were heaps of signs telling people not to jump off ‘cos they’ll kill themselves so it must happen a bit. Finally made it across and ended up at Sausalito, which is across the bay and opposite San Fran city. A few nice cheeky bits of real estate here, those for sale were going for around the 7 to 14 million mark. Caught the ... read more

Our latest trip has been a bit a mixed bag, we're heading up to the Aussie Embassy in Washington and taking some time to do a bit of travel around the surrounding area. But before heading up to the DC area we decided to duck across to the other side of Florida to Tampa Bay to catch the Counting Crows, one of my favorites bands. I've been regularly checking their website since we arrived in the US and they recently released a new album and announced a national tour. So we decided to head off to Tampa with Leanne and Andy to see the Counting Crows for their Friday night concert Andy had managed to secure some free accommodation and the Marriott Riverside in Tampa through work, so we made the four hour drive and checked ... read more
