Geo: 39.103, -94.583We went to Kansas City for a wedding. Very nice and sentimental jewelry was stolen. Numerous phone calls to the hotel were never returned. :-( It was a beautiful and expensive hotel with some not-so-nice staff members who apparently had sticky fingers. The wedding was beautiful, I drank wayyyyyyyy too much wine, and the drive home was very long and quiet. :-/... read more

10/05/2008 We’ve off to a hiking vacation to parks of Utah. We will fly to Las Vegas and early tomorrow morning drive to Utah. I've never been to Las Vegas and never wanted to go. It's not on our itinerary. The outdoors and not nightlife is my highlife.... read more

Wow. German first, English below...

Hi Folks! I'm in Eureka California taking a rest day. Had a nice week long stay with my daughter and spent a lot of time planning and making arrangements for the next phase of the trip. I have a reservation to fly to Adelaide Austarlia on the 12th! It's been a beautiful ride down the coast so far! The Oregon coast is breathtaking and the California redwoods are awesome! Oregon has been about the best for camping so far with Hiker/Biker sites in the national parks at $4.00 a night with free hot showers and some of the parks having laundry facilities. I met another rider from Australia who's also on his way to San Francisco so we're riding together. I've uploaded more pictures to my Kodak Gallery, but I haven't had time to arrange them ... read more

Wow, that guy can talk. We got downtown at 8:30 and had to wait 45 minutes in line before the metal detectors. the line was huge. started at the corner of front st and main, then went along the river to roughly pine and front, then back, up main and a right on 2nd st. a lot of people spoke first, local politicians, grass roots organizers and then around 10:30 he came on. the streets were packed. the fire department estimated about 15000 people. you don't really need me to tell you that he's an amazing speaker but hearing it in person is pretty moving. he lamented that he couldn't stay and have a pint at oktoberfest since he is flying back to washington to try and push through the economic rescue plan. a lot of ... read more

Great Architecture We had a really interesting if somewhat strange visit to the Seattle Public library. The library is an iconic building of architectural note. It is popular and attracts a lot of visitors. It is one of those buildings that demands a strong reaction and I expect there are aspects of it that some people love that others hate. Unfortunately the nature of the visit we were offered meant we learnt very little about how the service is delivered. We did not meet a single person who was involved in running the service. Our observation of front line customer service was not favourable although that could have just been the person on duty at the time of our visit. Seemed to me that Seattle Public library may need to think about how welcoming it is ... read more

Height of dining After a cocktail in the bar inside the Cheesecake Factory a group of us travelled by monorail from downtown Seattle to the Seattle Center and ate dinner in the revolving restaurant at the top of the Space Needle. The views over Seattle at night were truly spectacular.... read more

This blog is about the lovely week we spent in Seattle leading up to the wedding of our dear friends, Troy and Kristen (Todd's brother and his new bride). On our first night there, Todd surprised me with Mariners tickets since I'm such a big baseball fan. We went with Todd's friend Jamie and our nephew Noah. Although Seattle is the worst in the league this year, as evidenced by attendance, we had a great time and stocked up on ballpark hot dogs, which we've missed so much. The next day we had brunch in Kirkland overlooking the water. I really fell in love with this little town! It's so scenic, particularly for those of us who reside in a concrete jungle like Seoul. I spent the afternoon burning a hole in my wallet at the ... read more

Had a lovely relaxing morning beside the pool to wind down and catch some UV's. Kid's really enjoyed themselves and it was well earned. Later we headed out to explore the rest of the hotels on the Strip and what they each had to offer. First one, Excalhibur (A Medieval theme). Ashleigh & Jordan wanted to do the Spongebob 4D ride that is advertised everywhere. As it cost $10 each, Steve and I sat outside and held our breathes until they emerged - both were very disappointed and said, "it sucked". Oh well, win some, lose some... Next New York New York - an awesome facade of the New York skyscrapers on the outside and NY themed stores in the shopping area. OK, but nothing special. Further down we went into the Bellagio foyer and checked ... read more
