Day 12 (5/15/06) Minersville, UT to Cedar City, UT Total Miles 40.7 (815.7mi to date) We had a nice early start this morning and really quite enjoyed the climb and ride into Cedar City. We were in town by 11am so we managed to beat the heat on the way in. It was just a short climb up and then a windy ride down. We were excited to have such a short ride today after that 100+mi we did yesterday. We have been on the road for a while now and have decided to take our first rest day here in Cedar City before we head out into the amazing lands of southern Utah. Our route out of Cedar City takes us 18 miles on Rt14 as we gain over 5000'ft of elevation on a two ... read more

Day 11 - Mother’s Day 5/14/06 - Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers! Baker, NV - Minersville, UT. Total Miles: 101.8 First Century (100mi Ride) For Everyone in the group (775mi to date) We got an earlier start than the past few days (on the road by 7:30). Lots of excitement today! First of all we bid farewell to Nevada and entered Utah - this was celebrated with the ceremonial photo shoot near the welcome signs for both states (since we entered Nevada on a lonely desert road we didn’t get the opportunity and had to make up for it now). Today’s climbs were a bit more tough than usual. It wasn’t the actual climbing but rather the motivation required to start the climb out of a scorching hot basin filled with road kill, knowing ... read more

A Homer’s Odyssey… “Oh Lord, I’m stuck in Moab,” is not the title of a country song; it’s where I am for the month of May—by choice, not chance, or fate, or any of those things beyond my control. To bring things up to date, I have been traveling in my condo on wheels, which I have disaffectionately named the “Big Pig,” (BP for short) for nearly a month now. Thirty-six feet long, this white elephant weighs some 14,000 pounds soaking wet and presents new opportunities every time I take it on the road. I resurrected some of my old Navy vocabulary while trying to navigate BP around tight turns, backing into dark places, or jumping over some “whoop-dee-doos” at 60mph. Believe me, trying to emulate Steve McQueen’s car chases from “Bullitt” is not something you ... read more

Sorry we haven't blogged for a while but we've finally made it to LA and got internet access!! So from where we left of in Moab we broke down (again) luckily this time in the nicest town we've been to so far, with gorgeous weather. Opening the bonet of the bobo's van the mechanic said "holy shit it's a straight 6!" Which attracted the attention of the garage as they all crowded round. We began to feel slightly nervous and asked what it meant. The man had never seen an engine this old. So he fixed what he thought mighht be the problem and driving out of the gargage we broke down again! We went to get the man again and as we tried to move it into the garage the transmission broke. The men said ... read more

The camera got stolen at the start of the road trip, and with this new camera we have to install software first before putting pictures on which we can't do in this coffee shop...but as soon as we get to a library we will put all the pictures on. Sorry! Yesterday we had a fantastic day at Arches National Park which was the most beautiful scenery we have seen yet. Bobo's van has been playing up again and stalling every time we break so were probably going to spend most of today trying to get that fixed but hopefully we will make it to Vegas in time for my birthday! Loads of love xxxx... read more

Hello everyone, We arrived in a dull town called Montrose where the bobo's van broke down. Once again we got towed and the van got fixed, but as we droe out of the garage the van broke down again. During it getting fixed we stayed in a really nice comfort inn, we had another fix of the 700 club and had a nice meal to cheer ourselves up! In the morning the bobo's van wouldn't start again but the garage was closed so we prepared to stay in the town for the weekend. But later that day it decided to start so we drove as far as we could and ended up in a lovely state park. It was the hottest day yet and we both got a bit burnt! :( The campsite wasd full and ... read more

Talk about fun!! I love the sand dunes!! I got off work on Friday and went to an internship interview and then Alecia, John and I were off to the sand dunes! I went with about 30 people from my BYU 35th ward. We had a spiritual moment around the campfire that night and I have really started to love my ward. I also brought my special desert fire cooker so we made a few cherry/chocolate filled treats. And in the morning I had brought my sand board so everyone had to try it a million times. I'd have to say that James was the best at it by far. The highlight of the trip was the awesome tent and blow up mattress that Jesse and I slept on! oh yeah!! Living the high life!! So ... read more

Yes, it's true, I have converted to mormonism. The Spiritual aura of Salt Lake city was too much to bear and the path to my chosen higher power could not have been clearer. A religion where it is told that Jesus had a brother is a religion worth devoting my life to.. join with me now as I explore the majestic state of Utah and then travel east to Colorado and New Mexico and back again! now where did I finish off my last journal ... My last journal ended as I was talking about our train trip from San Francisco to Salt Lake City, the first half was pretty bad but the 2nd half was a bit better and more enjoyable at the very least. After being in a bad mood I decided to walk ... read more
