Na een aantal dagen en motels zonder internet aansluitingen zijn we nu in Salt Lake City. Nog 2 dagen rijden en ze zijn in Portland en hebben we alweer de helft van de trip erop zitten.
Het weer heeft geweldig meegewerkt tot nu toe. We kijken nog steeds ´s avonds naar ´the weather channel´ en we zien dagelijks dat een aantal plaatsen die we passeerden nu last hebben erg slecht weer. Zelfs tornado´s doemen daar op, maar dat is hier niet het geval.
We zijn ondertussen van Amarillo in Texas via Colorado, Arizona nu in Utah. Niet om de rest onder te laten doen maar dit is toch echt ons favoriete gebied. De Grand Canyon blijft indrukwekkend en de rit door en over de Rocky Mountains is geweldig. We hebben de Grand Canyon deze keer vanaf de noord zijde gezien. Dit had wel wat voeten in de aarde. De weg ernaar toe was nog steeds afgesloten. De winter had zoveel schade aangericht dat men dit nog aan het herstellen was. Na wat rondvragen hebben we een alternatieve route gevonden. Een binnenweg... alleen niet geasfalteerd... die hebben we dus genomen. Na een uur stofbijten en van links naar rechts door de auto te zijn geslingerd bereikten we de noord rand. Dat maakte het meer dan waard...
We gaan vanmiddag het meer op hier in Salt Lake City. Antiloppe Island is met de auto te bereiken... Die Amerikanen hebben best wel een goede gedachten.

Als we er niet naar toe kunnen rijden gaan we er ook niet naartoe

Dat heeft zo z´n voordelen... ze bouwen er dan ook bruggen voor om naar deze eilanden te kunnen. We zijn benieuwd.

Ok ok... now some words in English. We have been on the road for a couple of days but have run into motels that didn´t have internet connections in the way it would be easy to write with the laptop. Just 2 more days of driving and we will be in Portland. That also means we are then half way on our trip.
The weather has been very good to us. We watch on a daily base the weather and see that some areas are getting nailed pretty hard now with all kind of things. Rain, hail and even tornado warnings. But well not here.
We have gone from Amarillo over CO, AR into UT. Not to make the rest of the country look bad,but this is for sure our favorit part of the country. The Grand Canyon and the Rockies are simply wonderful and breath taking. We managed to reach the Nortern Rim of the Grand Canyon this time. The road leading there was still closed for winter... they were still working on it. After getting some information on why it was closed they showed us a backroad to get to the rim. Read dirt road... After bumping around in the car and eating dust for an hour we finally made it, but the view from there made it all worth while to do it. Thank God our car is white so the dust doesn´t show that well... yeah right.
This afternoon we will drive on to Antiloppe Island here in Salt Lake and have a look at the lake. You´ve got to love the Americans for there attitude on driving. I qoute

If we can´t drive there, we won´t go there

. This makes it easy to reach all that, since they have built a bridge to the island. We are looking forward to it.
