On to Moab we went.. After a 4 hour drive we pulled into the Moab Valley RV & Campark which is complete as far as the kids are concerned. Pool, hot tub, playground, giant checkers and chess, and other kids. No stream which was a bummer but plenty to do. We had the Godwin family specialty after the pool, taco night and then we were off to see the fireworks for fourth of July. As far as perfect nights we had the festival in the park for cotton candy and ice cream and then took some local advice and moved to a nearby baseball field for fireworks viewing. We all cuddled on a picnic blanket until they finished (which was 10pm) and then back to finish laundry, clean dishes, and make the beds. Needless to say ... read more

And, apparently "The Best Fires On Earth". I slept under the glow from the blaze on Navajo Mountain. It was about 50 miles away and you could see the flames. From my understanding, that's a smaller one. Parts of Zion are closed and you can smell the smoke,as well as see it, from many miles away. It has been a very fun couple of days. I am staying at Bryce Canyon; at the historic Ruby Inn. It's just a stupid Best Western. Rented a White Toyota Camry. Not a bad little car. But I digress. Flew through Monument Valley on the way to Hall's Crossing Airport. It's ONLY ten miles from Lake Powell. Very hot and long bike ride. After sitting for a few minutes I decided to bike down to the ferry and take it ... read more

We drove west thru northern NM and AZ and spent the night at a campsiite in Page, AZ (near Lake Powell) on June 22. Michelle and I hiked up a bluff behind the campground the next morning and we could see for I-don't-even-know-how-many miles. We made the decision to see the Grand Canyon because we were so close. Again we gave Olivia the keys and she promptly found steep mountain grades with 1,000 foot dropoffs and again handled it like a pro. She did relinquish the helm after an 18-wheeler honked at her. We were nearly to the Grand Canyon turn-off about 45 minutes later when we encountered a forest fire barricade. We were informed that we would have to re-trace our path and go 4 hrs out of our way to see the Grand Canyon. ... read more

Hello All! I truly hope you are all doing as groovy as me, although I do have my moments of missing home mucho badly. We went to the Zion Mountains, and I regret having bitched for about an hour at the word "hiking" because the view was so worth it. In a few adjectives it was, stunning, beautiful, breathtaking, captivating, wonderous, and amazing. I only wish my boys were there to share it with me, I knew as soon as I got there they would totally dig this experience. I love & miss you all. Namaste, Livvi... read more

Arches Nat. Park After the sunrise in Bryce we headed off for a day long trip to Arches Nat. Park. We stayed in a lovely small town called Moab. From there we were only about 10 mins away from Arches. The next day we drove in and saw the visitors centre. They actually have a type of lizard in the area which produces only females, that’s right no males at all. That is some pretty serious ‘girl power’! Goodness knows how reproduction occurs, that part wasn’t elaborated on! We actually saw a lizard really close up - great excitement! (not the one I just mentioned though). There was also a dinosaur footprint which was fascinating. We drove around the park stopping to view and photograph all the different arches. The set up was the same as ... read more

On our way in to Bryce we stopped at the Red Canyon. This wasn’t a planned stop it was just so beautiful we had to explore and take some pics. The rocks were the most brilliant, intense shade of red - enough to rival Ayres Rock. Bryce is only about 2 -3 hours from Zion. We arrived about lunch time and drove in. This park also had a shuttle but it didn’t run as frequently as at Zion and so we decided to take our car around. The parks are so big that driving around is necessary we weren’t just being lazy! As with Zion the early inhabitants were the American Indians and the Mormons. The place itself is named after a Mormon settler called Ebenezer Bryce who famously stated that the canyon was ‘a hell ... read more

Zion National Park: We arrived at our RV site quite late in the day and didn’t get to the Nat. Park until 5pm. This turned out to be a great time to explore the park as it was still warm but the intense heat of the day had gone. There was a shuttle that took us all around the park (as they have minimal car parking) and dropped us off at different scenic points and hiking trails. The views were spectacular and in fact I had started snapping pics before we got to the park as the mountains were so awesome. We drove through the mountains on the way there, it was cool to see the steep sides of the mountain on either side of you. In the park we did a short walk (just less ... read more

We got our start at 10 today, and it was already 84°. We crossed the Utah border at 10:15 am. We didn’t cross the Idaho border until 1:15 am. We saw lots of pretty views and very diverse landscapes during our drive. We had lunch at Panquitch, a quaint little town that was hosting a Quilt Walk, (we didn’t participate). We stopped to apply sunscreen in Salina, Utah. Driving with the windows down, we got very interesting sunburns on our legs, Kathryn’s right and Beth’s left. Note for later, when we head south, we must switch sides. Beth took over the night driving, as some of you know Kathryn has trouble seeing at night. She was a trooper, driving through the mountains, under major construction at 38°. Up and down, back and forth, very winding, ... read more
