After breakfast at the hotel it was time for a day of fun on Lookout Mountain. This is somewhere I went when I was younger with my grandfather. First stop - Ruby Falls Cavern. This an older cavern to tour. The paths are pretty steep and narrow in spots. The more fun formations were labeled. The guides are also very good. At the end is the actual Ruby Falls which they turn out the lights & light it up red for photos. http://www.rubyfalls.com/ We then took the incline up to the top of the mountain. It's very very steep. http://www.ridetheincline.com/ At the top we explored Point Park - a civil war park on the mountain. Also we checked out the map museum - Luke really like this part. https://www.nps.gov/chch/index.htm url=http:... read more

We took delivery of our new 42 foot 2 inch 2007 Tour Master motor home in Ft Meyers, Florida and drove to Naples where we had all our personal things in storage. It was hot and we tried to load as quickly as possible. This took several days actually and it wasn't until the 22nd that we finally got on the road and began to truly enjoy our new life style. We spent our first night on our trip at the Florida-Georgia state lines. Nice camp ground and practically empty. The next day we arrived at the Chattanooga South KOA where we stayed 3 nights. This area is a huge Civil War Site and is maintained by the Park Service. The Civil War never ceases to amaze me. We also drove via our Saturn to Lookout ... read more

It's been a year since we returned from our world trip. We just can't shake the travel bug so we took a Summer 2006 Road Trip. "A" had to stay home to work ...poor guy...so this was a "girls only" trip. We will visit Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, South Dakota Missouri and Wyoming. A 5000 mile trip. First stop Alabama to visit grandparents and family. Then on to Chattanooga to see Rock City and Ruby Falls. Visiting Rock City is like stepping back into the past. It's truly an old fashioned tourist trap type of place, which is what makes it so unique. There's something oddly sweet about all the little gnomes and fairies mixed among the trails and caves. Of course taking 2 teenage girls put a whole new spin on the place! They had so ... read more

Ah, the Chattanooga Choo Choo Holiday Inn. Ain’t no one askin’, “Pardon me boys, but is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo,” anymore. The irony, of course, is that even “the L&N don’t run here anymore.” Nor does the Southern Railway. And even though you’re sitting inside an opulent, if midsized, passenger station, you have to travel a hundreds miles by other means to catch the nearest Amtrak passenger train in Gainesville, Georgia. But hey, if it wasn’t for the near-demise of passenger rail in the Twentieth Century, it wouldn’t be possible in the Twenty First Century to sleep in passenger car cum hotel room in the switching yard of a defunct passenger station converted into a hotel. A plaque remains on the receiving side of the old Chattanooga passenger station, explaining the historical significance of Chattanooga ... read more

I was placed in Lawrence Residence for the duration of my stay. For the first few days I did the normal sight seeing around Chattanooga, and then school began. I got to choose my courses (5 electives and English was a requirement). I was placed in Junior year (our equivalent of Grade 11) which was strange as I was still in my final semester of Grade 10 back home, but I wasn't complaining because I got an extra 30 mins curfew on weekends. Each boarder is given a FABS family who is there to assist the student while they are there. Cat and her family were my FABS and they were awesome. Due to the careful selection of my courses, I had very little homework, which was good because I spent every afternoon either at Walkabout ... read more

Spent our first night in Tennessee right over the border. No pool. Me and my brother went in the sauna and jacuzzi. My brother has mono so he's been sick. How I didn't get it I have no clue. According to my mother I was being a good girl. We were back on the road by 9:15am on to CHatanooga. We talked to someone from PA who now lives in alabama and got the name of a beach there. We got to Chattanooga. We wanted to stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo right in town but all they had were suites so we went to a Comfort Inn for tuesday and wednesday nights. Nothing Fancy. The first day we went to Ruby Rock which no one wanted to see after spending alot of time in the ... read more

Today we went for a riverside walk along the tennessee river. Got some good photos. There was a muserum that had a zigzag walk leading to an under the bridge ampitheater and up to the river. It was kinda neat. We went to a discovery Museum. It was fun. Everyone loved it. Our sleeping arrangements have been humerous. My dad and brother slept together. I kept making deals with my brother that if he played games or went in the pool with me I'd sleep with him instead haha. Of course he did becuase he'd seep with anyone but my dad haha After the discovery museum we at at a bagel cafe. There wasn't much going on. It's really starting to get hot.
