We are now past the half way point of our travels. Well it was a very cold night and day started with breakfast in our Hotel lobby (scrambled eggs on toast + OJ). We headed out to the car and it was windy and cold. Temperature in the car said it was zero outside and this was about 10AM. We headed to a place called Lookout Mountain which is only a few kms from downtown. First stop was Ruby Falls. I deliberately did not tell the kids anything about this place so they would be surprised. The tour starts by going in an elevator down about 260 feet through limestone to the middle of the mountain. We await a tour guide who then took us deep into the caves seeing various formations along the way to ... read more

The day started pretty late and we missed the breakfast inhouse. We had a couple of yoghurts and bananas with us and finished these and then headed off around 10.15AM. We arrived at Scottsboro Alabama around 11AM and the drive here was a bit different as we were not on an Interstate but driving through various small middle american towns (still dual carriageways so a good road nonetheless). A bit windy today but mostly clear skies and temperature a bit warmer at around 12 degrees. Today was essentially a travelling day to get to Chattanooga which is back in the Southeast corner of Tennessee, but when we researched the journey we realised that Scottsboro was about half way and has a famous attraction called the Unclaimed Baggage Centre. Essentially all of the lost baggage that is ... read more

First I would like to apologize to all my friends whom I did not get in touch with or see while in Aspen, DFW, and Chattanooga, next I would like to thank those who opened up your home for Pearl and me to stay at during our "Road Trip". Pearl left for the States a week before I did, so when I arrived she was already acclimated to the time change, this worked out very good for me. The first Saturday I was there we went to Ketner's Mill for a Arts and Craft fair, on the way there and on the way back we stopped at various yard sales, which Pearl loves. Monday I was sick and stayed in bed all day, I had the rest of the week to get ready for my NICET ... read more

The day before our big trip, and it’s snowing in Kunsan, I take my guys out for dinner, Gamjeatong, potato soup. After dinner we get home and pack, we decide to stay up since we have a taxi coming to pick us up at 2:30am to take us to the bus terminal for our 3:00am bus ride to the airport. As we are waiting for the elevator I jokingly say “Let’s not leave any luggage”, last year we (actually it was me) left a bag in front of the airport and did not notice until we were in the check-in line. As the elevator doors close that’s when I realize that I don’t have my wallet….doohh! We arrive at the airport and check in and go through security and customs, once through we go to the ... read more

We're here in Chatanooga TN....woo-hoo....The ride so far has been uneventful, but thankfully safe. We headed out a little later than I would have liked today, but still made good time. We arrived at the hotel around 5ish...Thanks Jeff!!! We did stop in Roanoke VA which turned out to be a tremendous waste of time and I am currently penning a letter to the city of Roanoke requesting they give me 2 hours of my life back..After deciding to stop there to check out the local history, we came upon a book store which turned out to be more of a thrift shop/book store that attempted to charge full book prices on books that were obviously older than me. Stupidly, I took the recommendation of the character behind the counter and went across the street to ... read more

This morning started out poorly. Kerry got up early and researched our problem on the net with less than encouraging results. At 8AM he started calling local RV dealers. No one answered at one, another told him they couldn't work on Jayco campers, another didn't open until 10. He called a Jayco dealer in Knoxville, but no answer there either, and no call backs from the messages he left. Finally, he realized he hadn't called Northgate RV. They said they could probably fix it, but couldn't guarantee they'd get it done today. So we dropped the camper off there, hoping for the best and went to pick up Sara for our trip to the Tennessee Aquariums. We had the best time; since Sara volunteers as a docent at the Aquarium, she knows an awful lot about ... read more

Hello, all. We're on the road with our camper again, this time bringing our grandson, Ethan, along. As seems to be our habit, we've started another trip with screwups. We were about 2/3 of the way to Chattanooga when Kerry realized we forgot to take the meats we had purchased for our first few days out of the freezer. We will have some nice meals to look forward to when we get back home. And it's no problem to buy more, there are grocery stores on nearly every corner it seems. We got to Chester Frost County Park in Hixson, TN, with plans to camp 2 nights there. It's a beautiful park with lots of water and nice campsites. We picked out a spot and paid for 2 nights. Then when we started to set up ... read more

I know some of you wanted to see a lot more pictures from my new home here in Chattanooga. Part of the problem was staying home long enough to make it look like a home so I did not want to take any pictures until I got the pictures on the wall to make my house feel like a home. The other problem was staying home long enough to get this done. I am doing a lot more than 50% travel; I am pretty close to 90 - 95% but it is due to problems at our different facilities which should improve shortly. Nonetheless, here are some pictures.... read more

I am sure many of you that know me well, could tell by the past few postings; but it is official as I am not renewing my contract for next year. There were many factors that played into the biggest one is that we were many years away from ever going to a fully cooking facility, which is my passion so in the Fall I started looking for some new opportunities. I was pleasantly surprised to find several positions of interest; but of all of them, I found Farley's & Sathers to be the most exciting with the greatest opportunity. So I leave for the States for the Holidays on Tuesday (12/23) with a stop over in Germany to visit Jetta, Piage and Liam. I will spend the night with the Kaune's in Frankfurt then fly ... read more
