Good afternoon all! It's an odd feeling to say that and know that everyone reading is in the same time zone as I am. Instead of writing my blog from a rather uncomfortable bed at 10 at night in a small flat, I am writing this blog from the comforts of a swingy chair on my own deck at 2 in the afternoon in the fresh open air. As I have reached my final destination of the United States and am now safely back home, this will sadly be my last required blog to write. However, I look forward to sharing my stories with many of you in person! I am going on my fourth day back at home, and so far it has been nice being able to just relax and spend time with my ... read more

Carly and Mike got me some baseball cards for the train ride between the Bay and Seattle. This is clearly the best baseball card ever. The train is running late and I have not heard back from my Airbnb hosts. I did get a Robbie Cano card, perhaps I can exchange it for lodgings in Mariner country… I have hit Eugene and I can smell the Ninkasi. So close, but so far away. No matter, many breweries lay in front of me.... read more

Day 1 Aug 1st Saturday We drove down to Atlanta with Dan and Shawna who dropped us off for our flight. The flight was good. They had entertainment and I was able to sleep a little. It was a direct flight from Atlanta to Portland, and even though it was 5 hours it went by fast. I like flying Delta. Day 2 Aug 2nd Sunday We stayed the night in a Ramada Inn. It was subpar, but at least the bed was comfortable. We started the day at the Japanese Gardens. They were really nice with the greatest smell. We found "our" tree and I took lots of pictures. One highlight was a display of some debris that floated in from the Japanese tsunami. It was from a temple, it was very interesting. After that we ... read more

Geo: 44.0499, -123.089Today our agenda was to take us to Eugene, Oregon, but before heading south, we took a leisurely drive up toward Olympic National Park for a pleasant scenic ride along the waterways of the Puget Sound. The day began at 8:20 and 72 degrees, but before the day was over, the temps had climbed to 102…not what we expected in the northwest. But also, unlike the northwest, we had another beautiful day of clear skies and bright sunshine. No complaining here. Our first stop was in a place called Gig's Harbor. And it reminded me a lot of the Maine coast…places like Boothbay Harbor, but bigger and more densely populated. The marinas had rows and rows of pleasure boats sitting idle on this gorgeous Saturday morning. The houses were stacked very close together, often 3 ... read more

Tweede dag in crater lake national park. Opnieuw topdag. Vanaf nu rijden we langs de kust zuidwaarts naar onze oorspronkelijke bestemming... read more

It's that time of year again, and a very momentous one at that. Thursday night has arrived and I should be packing, BUT, I thought I would get a head start on blogging about our impending trip to South Dakota. It was 2011 when I gave birth to this baby blog. Much like my attempts at maintaining photo albums (ask my kids), this endeavor has been hit and mostly miss. This time last year, our journey was uncertain. David, who I will only this once refer to as Dear Hubby Wubby, had just been released from the hospital. Two very long months of hospital stays, a 15 pound weight loss, unanswered questions, and finally a surgery to gut out the problem (pun intended), the evil pancreatitis had been slain. You wanna ride 1,500 long, hot, deserted ... read more

Hello from dreary Idanha Oregon! We have had lots of overcast days and rainy nights. Sort of a bummer because we haven't been able to see any stars which I was looking forward to (we don't see many in the big city). Day one we got a late start but made it to Grandpa Harry & Grandma Sue's house by 8:45. They, of course, had a fabulous dinner waiting for us and Grandpa Harry gave our rig a thorough going over including spraying silicone in all of the cabinet hinge doors (they were extremely squeaky). After a wonderful country breakfast we were sent off with yummy lemon cake & leftover potato salad. We drove through Klamath Falls where we got some groceries (half way up I-5 I realized I'd forgotten the food in the fridge) and ... read more
