...took us to Crater Lake National Park. This was the first time we used our America the Beautiful Pass. We just had to stop long enough to accept a park map and info guide from the ranger and we were off to the rim. Towing a 5th wheel behind us was at times a bit hairy on the twisty mountain road. We discovered that the parking lots at the viewpoints are not 5th wheel friendly. We found a large enough turn-out that we could park in across from The Watchman viewpoint. Oh my goodness...what a beautiful lake. The shade of blue is stunning. The turquoise of the shallows along the shore, amazing. Our next stop along the West Rim was Rim Village where they have actual RV parking (maybe 8 stalls, many of which were occupied ... read more

It was a long day filled with more family and more delicious food. We started out visiting my cousins Kas and Bryan. It was nice to be able to catch up with them and see how much each of their kids have grown. It's just wrong when they do that. The kids can't possibly be old enough to serve in the military. But they are and I'm proud of and grateful to each of them who chose that route. Bryan was working out of his home office during our visit, but was able to break away now and then to join in the conversation (and to grill up the chicken). His wife, Dina, was out of town, so we'll have to catch up with her another time. Kas hasn't changed a bit. Still has a great ... read more

Started an hour later than our targeted time, but that's pretty typical for us. After stopping in Lacey to pick up a zero gravity camp chair for Mike, we finally arrived at my Uncle Elden and Aunt Margie's in Vancouver. I didn't realize how much longer it would take to get there when you're towing 5 tons of house behind you. Another lesson was learned in what not to do and one way to get out of the corner you've painted yourself into. We turned the corner onto their street and found a nice stretch of curbstone opposite their house to park the rig without blocking any driveways. The owner of the house was out watering his lawn and we asked if he minded if we parked there for a couple hours. He obviously didn't want ... read more

When my mom asked if I wanted to tag along, my response was "I forgot it was a state." (My apologies Oregon.) However, I am always ready for an adventure so of course I agreed to go and packed my bags a few days later. With some Pinterest research and set out where exactly I wanted to go in the short amount of time that I had available. Portland: You are wonderful. There is so much culture in such a small area and I am really sorry that I couldn't explore every block of your city.I would have loved to do all of the cool hikes in the area, or check out the more hipster part of town, but there simple wasn't enough time. The first thing we did was take a city bus, and a ... read more

Welcome to Portlandia. ... read more

Saturday morning Rich and Stacy hosted a family brunch at their house to celebrate Mother's Day together. What a blessing to gather together as a family and share these special times. That afternoon it was warm and sunny so Richard's family all came over to enjoy the pool and hot tub here at Premier. Following the swim we enjoyed another BBQ back at the RV. This is the time of year the Irises are in bloom so on Sunday we drove out to Keizer to the Iris gardens. Looking over the fields of flowers is not as spectacular as the tulip fields. However, each type of Iris has its own beauty - such a variety of colours and formation. We just enjoyed wondering up and down the rows taking in the beauty of each individual flower. ... read more

Those of you who know me well will understand how I love to explore the back country roads and discover new places. In the past two days we have had opportunity to do just that. On Wednesday we left the RV in Wilsonville for a few repairs and had four hours to look around that area . Usually we drive straight through on I-5 on our way to Salem. The first place we discovered was the beautiful city park. A large park is situated on the banks of the Willamette River with picnic areas, well kept playing fields and playground, and a hiking path through the woods along the river. As we traveled through the beautiful farm country we came across the Canby Ferry. There are only three of these small ferries in operation today. The ... read more

For many years we have been coming to the Premier RV Resort on Hwy22 West Salem. Not only is it one of our favorite RV parks, but it is situated between Salem and Dallas so it makes it convenient for the kids to visit. This has been a great place for the grandchildren to come and enjoy the pool and other play areas and to have family BBQ dinners together. So I thought you might be interested in a tour of the place!! Also while we are here this time we have been able to go to some of MEGHAN'S softball games and enjoy the action there as well. Meghan plays on the Dallas High School Varsity team. Our son Mike helps to coach the Dallas JV team who are also doing very well in their ... read more

North America » United States » Oregon » Sisters April 30th 2015

We had made plans to visit with friends from our days in Portland. They have now moved to Bend, Oregon, so we planned to meet them in Sisters for lunch. Again we were fortunate to have a sunny day though there were some clouds when we left Salem. To get to Sisters we drove East up Hwy 26 along the North Santiam River. This brought back memories of when Dwain would take David and Mike canoeing on that river when the boys were young. In Sisters we had a great visit with our friends, catching up on family news. After lunch Dwain and I took off to capture pictures of the area before returning to Salem. Fortunately the clouds had burned off enough so we could see most of the mountains as you will see in ... read more

While we are in Oregon for a month with our RV I have decided that the quickest and easiest way to keep you all up-dated with our activities and the pictures is to continue with our BLOG. Today is Saturday, April 25, 2015 and a perfect day for taking pictures because of the big, fluffy clouds in the sky and the sunshine. Very enjoyable after several days of cold and rain. So we took the opportunity to drive around the countryside and capture some shots of the beautiful country around the Salem - Woodburn area. This is the quickest and easiest way to share my pictures with you all. I trust you will enjoy the tour with us. Dwain was pastor of Emmanuel Bible Church in Pratum (east of Salem) from 1977-1986.
