Well, it's been a busy couple of days for you kiddo. The most important and breaking news if you will, is that you are feeding yourself! In addition to your little feeding bag of pears, mangoes, peaches, etc. that is. The bag you have been using for a month or so at this point. However, last night you finally picked up one of the puffs that mommy has been feeding you and letting you feed her and letting you play with and batting around AND you put it in your mouth and ate it!! Huzzah! Caveat: The puffs are tremendously easy to 'gum' which is why little folks eat them, it also makes them very easy to lick, partially degrade and then stick to things. So be on the lookout if she has been eating them ... read more

It is with the thought that 'this stage won't last forever' that I give you tonight's blog entry my dear. Tonight it is all about how we put you to sleep (and most naps actually) at about 7 months. Somewhere in the 8-9pm range you start to act sleepy, ie. you try to eat any part of mommy flesh that comes near you and you start getting persnickety and rubbing your eyes. So we head up to bed, make sure you are dressed in a little playsuit that covers you from wrist to toe and that you have a clean diaper and soaker in. (At this point if you are really tired you start getting hysterical and we have to wrestle you into said clothing while you protest greatly and the tears that roll down your ... read more

Well, you are off, so to speak. Unlike 'Mine That Bird' you might not be such a good bet, because at this point you pretty much only go in reverse. It does cause all kinds of hilarity to ensue though. You constantly become lodged under things, then you look up as if to say "Why did you put this couch here?!". We went to visit GUT and Great Aunt Lori the other day and poke around their house for ideas. We had a wonderful brunch with Granny and Uncle Mike and Gr. Granny there as well. Plus everyone got to see happy mid-day Helena and the traveling road show that is you eating. Grandma also came over to visit the other day. She ended up having to come back over on Wednesday to take care of ... read more

Well, it's hard to believe you are already 6 months old, but there's the truth of it! It's funny, Mommy was reading in one of her 'what to expect' books and in the chapter about the seventh month one of the things it addresses is ' how do I know if my child is gifted?' Oye! At seven months? People are so ridiculous, well, if you have a gift that I should be able to recognize aat this point it is either related to your fantastic growing or your gastrointestinal feats! For the record, at your checkup you were 26 3/4" tall (90th %) and 17 lbs. 7 oz. (75th%) Crazy! Even crazier was the doc following that up with, "Yes, she's tall and thin like you" I am not sure where it is that Mommy ... read more

My wife and I live in Alden NY, near Buffalo/Niagara Falls/Rochester, and not too far from Toronto, Ontario. Our region is known for big snows. But now that winter is about over, I'm getting ready to venture off to Switzerland on a great hat quest. My very favorite hat in the world has finally crumbled (see photo of straw hat with split brim). I've located a man who knows how to make these hats, and I'm going to study with him.... read more

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Well Kiddo. On St. Paddy's day this year you turned 5 months old. Oye. I don't know how it is passing so quickly, but it is. We got up and put on our festive green and went to yoga and then out for a short walk and back home to fix some sweet potatos and brownies with green frosting to take to Aunt Anne's house and have with the corned beef. If you are able to read this, you may have heard of regular potatoes. Lord knows you won't have learned about their existence by having me cook them. That's ok. I think sweet potatoes taste better and they are orange, so they must be better for you:) As it is now you LOVE them. I'm going to try to put a ... read more

Ok, so the list is as follows, in order I think: Lasagna cookies bread crumbs Thai food A piece of strawberry I'm pretty sure that those are the only foods I have dropped on your head at this point. The Lasagna was funny, you were still VERY small and it was a huge piece (seemingly). I was mortified. When it came around to the strawberry yesterday I just hoped you would stay asleep and knew that the pink coloring on your eyelid would wash off eventually. Much like the myriad of food that you used as a styling product during lunch this morning. I turned away for a minute and Daddy said, 'Uh oh, yams in the hair.' It was a pleasant little orange streak going from your eye brow to the area behind your ear. ... read more

So you have started your forray into 'solid' foods and I have been remiss in documenting your adventures for our out-of-town family and friends:( Shame on me. But you are certainly taking to solid foods and you have yet to meet one that you don't like. Also, in a bizarre twist, Mommy and Daddy are learning that some are actually tolerable. Certainly we have preferences, but some are actually quite good with no added butter, salt etc. You do however, seem to think that food does need a little something extra. After each spoonful you pop your thumb into your mouth as if to say "Yeah Mom, this is pretty good, but I think it needs a little Lena thumb to really taste great". You are 'talking' now quite often. Not real words certainly, but not ... read more

So... without question, Daddy and my favorite thing to do is kiss you. And for now at least, you can't really fight back against our rampant kiss attacks. Well, not in the traditional child way, by running away and refusing to be kissed. You have however, started your own little coup against kisses. In your arsenal are several new tricks. The first is the open mouthed kiss, which is your response to anyone who tries to kiss you. I don't know if you are under the impression that anything that gets near your mouth is food, or if you figure you should just start tasting everything to make sure it isn't food. Either way, most times that we kiss you you try to eat our lips:) The other way that you fend us off is by ... read more

So... first I must say that your family partied without you on Saturday. Well, to be fair we just went out in the evening and you got to spend it with Grandpa and Granny Roaldi! The Robbie Burns dinner is just one of the things that is going to get the label 'not until your older'. I just don't think that you would really appreciate the bagpipes, highland dancer, ang haggis. Heck there are people much older than you without an appreciation for such things! In any event, when you are allowed to join us you will at least be properly attired. The kilt that Murphy wore in Auntie Binky and Uncle Ken's wedding should fit you just fine. You'll be better outfitted than Mommy, she just wore a wool skirt and sweater!
