Well what a bloody palaver that has been. We are now finally sat on the night train to Chicago but the journey here was not a simple one. After getting on the mega bus at Toronto we were a little late leaving as a woman was arguing with the driver and demanding that she be given two seats together as she had booked them for her bad back. She had however arrived late and was not aware of the policy of first come first served. So as the rest of the bus started hurling abuse and food she finally gave in and sat the hell down. Anyway with that over with the bus was fairly uneventful till we got to immigration at the American border. We were all marched off the bus with our bags ... read more

You little mover and groover! As Mommy and Daddy were preparing more and more everyday for the upcoming home renovation moving everything from the back of the house forward, you my dear were getting more and more adept at getting into things. A list of places you have been located as of late includes: Inside a suitcase, sitting on the open dishwasher door, attempting to enter the 'entertainment center', digging in a potted plant and innumerable cabinets. Also, between the time I started this entry (Sept. 10th) and now (what can I say, we've been busy) YOU have been very busy. You have graduated from cruising along holding onto furniture to full fledged walking. YOU WALK! It is astounding. Strangely, you also walk more often and more confidently in the evening, when you are 'supposed' to ... read more

Well my dear, it is hard to believe it is already late August. This summer is flying by and finally, although you and I weren't the ones complaining, and certainly not Daddy, it was hot. It was sleep in your diaper with all the windows on and fans blowing hot. I *think* that may be over at this point, but in any event, let's recap what you've been up to over the past month or so... We had a nice visit with the McKee ladies, and while Mommy and Christie were showing Violet how to jump rope you and Norah lined up on the sidelines to take notes. It will be a while before you will have to use any information you learned, but someday! The first of August saw us taking a family trip for ... read more

Well my dear there is change afoot in the family. Soon you will be a big sister! We are so excited and you were such a good secret keeper for more than a month:) Sometime at the end of January/beginning of February we will have a new little family member. You probably won't be able to remember a time when it was just the three of us, but don't worry there is plenty of love to go around and we know you will be an awesome big sister. Getting into all kinds of adventures and introducing your little sibling to all manner of things. Just this morning you decided that playing outside of the shower while Mommy was getting clean just wasn't exciting enough, so in you came, clothes and all! Sigh* never a dull moment. ... read more

Well, my dear, to say that you have been busy since our last blog post would be a ridiculous understatement. It seems almost impossible that you are doing all the things you are doing, but then again, you are nine months old, so what did we expect? Since Mommy has been slow to blog we have a treasure chest of photos for your adoring fans as well as some video content that I will work on for another day. Well, we start with some new things in your life, like the fact that you are just about legally out of your first car seat. So we ordered you a new one and it came in a fabulous box. I am sure that you will get even more enjoyment out of large boxes in the future. For ... read more

As sunlight cascades upon beautiful Buffalo, my eyes are met with two strange sights: 50 snowplows waiting for an emergency on the runway in July, exclaimed Ashley, and “What are those large white things sticking out of the ground with the funny arms?” “Oh yeah, I forget you don't have snow in the south and what the heck are you talking about white things with arms? Oh wait, those are windmills that used to have six arms, but they kept sucking in Canadian Geese, so now they are down to three arms,” replied Fern! In the parking lot of the World’s Greatest Grocery Store, Wegmans, we first became acquainted with our new best friend of the trip. Imagine a shiny grape skittle and you can picture our new best friend, the purple Jimmy! “Damn it ... read more

Well my love, I have been a little slow to record your latest activities and feats. I do have some valid reasons though! 1. We have been spending tons of time with family, which is way more fun and interesting than sitting here talking about it. 2. YOU are so much more mobile that blogging now only happens during naps, and Mom more frequently participates in naptime....so there's that part of it. In any event, here's what you've been up to since last we wrote: Most importantly you have moved from crawling to standing. You pull yourself up to standing using any means available: couches, people, boxes, cats, you name it. You crawl everywhere, mostly as a means of pursuing the cats, but also in games of fetch that you play with yourself. Not that Mommy ... read more

You know you are a traveller when: you spell traveller with two l’s. (Every other English speaker in the world uses the British spelling.) you know what a “gap year” is. (Year between uni (university) and career in Britain, Australia and New Zealand.) you smile silly to strangers back home and want to know where they come from you rehearse what to say before going into the post office at home, then realize that they speak English there you actually don’t mind Nescafe coffee anymore your friends email, and the opening line is, “Where are you now?” you are home from Mexico long enough to remember you can put the toilet paper in the toilet…and then you go to Asia… going into a McDonalds means a clean bathroom and a sit-down toilet you carry toilet paper ... read more
