It was not long back that I was thinking of not going to Niagara as there was hardly anybody willing to Join me, especially b'use it’s going to cost us dear and second it’s around 600 Miles away from our place. It takes 10 hours to reach there! I was running Short on cash so even I was skeptical for a moment. But yehan Jana hi tha!! I wud thank Profet immensely for ... read more

So, I’ve been home for a week and I'm not gonna lie, at first it was a little strange being back. But after those first couple minutes, I realized there is nothing as good as home sweet home. Even though I LOVE AmeriCorps and I LOVE our project in Mississippi, its just not “home.” (But it’s the differences that make it so adventurous and unique) Its not what I'm used to, and its not what I’ve grown up with. So I’ve compiled a list titled: “What I Took For Granted at Home Before I Joined Americorps.” And I'm sure there are many things that I forgot to add to the list, but these are the blatantly obvious things that I take for granted while being home. (Don’t assume ‘taking for granted’ and ‘hate about AmeriCorps’ are ... read more

“Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.” JFK Here is part of a journal entry that I wrote while on Semester at Sea, this is a pretty good explanation of one of the main reasons why I choose to join Americorps. “I think I want to join the armed services. I don’t know. I would fight for our country. For the freedoms that everybody takes for granted back home. They cry when a president that they don’t like is elected but at least we have a president. At least we have order and aren’t living in chaos day after day. We are free to do whatever we want, whenever we want. I will fight for my freedom of speech, being able to talk to whomever ... read more

We were SO excited to be heading back to California today. Susan missed Brett, I just needed to sleep before setting up my classroom, and we were both sick of the humidity. We had a nice sleep in until 8:30 since we were right across from the airport. The free breakfast was great with yogurt and cinnamon buns without raisins, and I loved the rain shower. Car rental return at the airport was super fast, gas was only $2.97 a gallon! The security line was long, but we got through easily. I have flown six times this summer, and I have the gig DOWN. We weren't sitting together on either leg (Buffalo-Atlanta, Atlanta-San Jose). In Atlanta we found some very funny art, including a plane made of corn. Or corn shaped like a plan. The lima ... read more

I left my work at around 6:30 and headed west on the Massachusetts Turnpike. To my surprise it was raining and since I was leaving an hour later than expected I knew that I wasn't going to make it before midnight. But I said, whaterver, I'm going to get my rest. It took me a little while to settle at the hotel after the long drive. And when I was going to go to bed at 2AM, I discover that the hotel room had stains and had not been replaced. I got a little upset and the lady at the front desk did replace the sheets and cleaned the bathroom. So I ended up falling asleep at around 3AM.... read more

I lost the blog entry for my trip home for Amy and Ben's wedding. I guess it was a little out of place among the stories about Vietnam. I may still write up a whole new entry but I will give a summary for right now. I flew home the 10th of July to be in Amy and Ben's wedding. I would do that horrible 24 hour trip for few people, but Amy and Ben are two of them. It was great seeing everyone (especially Woods) and being a bad bridesmaid with the other lovely bad bridesmaids. We camped out by Lake Erie and the wedding was in Buffalo. After the wedding Woods and I took our time traveling back to JFK, stopping at Houghton to get all nostalgic about the college days and spending the ... read more

I’m in a New York State of Mind! So far New York has not disappointed. We arrived in Buffalo July 3rd. For months I’ve waited to enjoy the fourth of July with my family and sticking with tradition we awoke to pouring rain. This meant no fireworks or large smoking fires on the beach. Imagine if you can, 20-25 people, 4 dogs, and 30 years of knick-knacks in a small cottage. Needless to say, I was allotted about five square feet of area to enjoy the holiday. I became somewhat of a Forest Gump around 1:00 in the afternoon. Although I haven’t run in years, I strapped on my sneakers and ran through the pouring rain until I could run no more. Upon returning to the camp the weather had improved to a light rain allowing ... read more
