So, I’ve been home for a week and I'm not gonna lie, at first it was a little strange being back. But after those first couple minutes, I realized there is nothing as good as home sweet home. Even though I LOVE AmeriCorps and I LOVE our project in Mississippi, its just not “home.” (But it’s the differences that make it so adventurous and unique) Its not what I'm used to, and its not what I’ve grown up with. So I’ve compiled a list titled: “What I Took For Granted at Home Before I Joined Americorps.” And I'm sure there are many things that I forgot to add to the list, but these are the blatantly obvious things that I take for granted while being home. (Don’t assume ‘taking for granted’ and ‘hate about AmeriCorps’ are interchangeable, I just want to make it clear that I don’t hate my AmeriCorps situation at ALL.)
What I Took For Granted at Home Before I Joined AmeriCorps

An indoor shower you can move around in, not have to wear shower shoes, with the shower head above your head AND if the mood strikes you can shower longer than 15min because there is nobody on the list immediately after you waiting for the shower. Following the shower you can take your time getting dressed and don’t have to put your clothes on when you are still dripping.
A whole plethora of clothes to choose from that aren’t grey or khaki; surprisingly though, I keep wearing the same outfits over and over again.
Driving a car in an area that I am familiar with (either by myself or with a couple people), not a 15 passenger van in foreign territory with 13 people, talking, laughing, arguing or signing all at the same time.
Laundry facilities on the premises that you don’t have to pay for or sit and wait for them to finish before you can do anything else. You can even separate whites and colors and do more than 1 load a week.
Choosing what I want to eat, what time I want to eat it, and eating snacks throughout the day and possibly drinking anything besides water, dare I even say “pop.”
Sleeping in the most wonderful bed in the world and not having to wake up at 5:20am
Mom and Pops, the best parents in the world, who still spoil me and love me unconditionally, definitely one of the major things I take for granted.
Instant internet access at all times.
Stepping outside in winter and freezing. Freezing is also a nuisance and very annoying but at least you are aware that it is winter, brrrr.
The Sabres, watching them on TV or going to the games.
Mighty Taco, why are they only in Buffalo?
Being able to get together, go out and hang out with my friends
A whole bedroom to myself, with dresser drawers, a closet and only 1 bed. Although the pure silence at night took a couple nights to get used to.
Going to a restaurant and having the option to spend more than $6.00 on a meal.
Quietness; that is when Jeff is not singing on the top of his lungs.
Aloneness; not having to be social at all hours of the day, especially first thing in the morning.
Lucky Charms and Boccee’s Pizza.

Ain't it the truth
Sorry for the incorrect grammar, but you are so right and so blessed for the opportunity to notice. I am really feeling blessed these days, and I know you know why... I'm so glad that you were home to be a part of it. Love, prayers and blessing as you go on your way. Mrs. S.
