Depending on what you want to do in Buffalo, it can take anywhere from a day to a week to see everything. I found some great architectural sights, amazing food, and opportunities to relax and watch the world go by during my 3 days in town. My main purpose this time was to see my beloved Toronto Blue Jays play an entire weekend series at their home away from home, Sahlen Field. But as a lover of travel and cool sites, I didn’t let that take up all my time. Here’s my run-down of the best (and not so best) things I enjoyed in the area. Sights, Vertical and Horizontal As dedicated readers of my blog will know, I’m a sucker for Art Deco architecture. If you love it as much as I do, then you ... read more

June: We decided to head out early to visit the Frank Loyd Wright house Kentuck Knob, near Ohiopyle. It is a magnificent house set up on the hill in the woods with a view of three states. The owners were friends with the Kaufmans, the owners of Falling Water. The property includes a really interesting sculpture garden. After a lovely dinner in Uniontown Pennsylvania we went back to the hotel to pack, unpack, repack our bike gear, I guess we are a little nervous about tomorrow . Ann: she left out the part about the back mountain detour through "Deliverance" land. Thank you google maps. Then the ride down the road that had multiple "Dangerous Mountain Road" signs. #Jesustakethewheel It's all good !... read more

Check another one off the bucket list!? On the 90 and only 2 hours or so left! It's been epic but we are also very glad to be home. The fall foliage along the route today was lovely! We were happy to be welcomed back to New York with the traditional sign but not so thrilled about the tolls! So many states do not charge tolls. We can't wait to see you all soon! Geo: 42.8854, -78.8784Well no photos and no exciting adventures to report. We moved on to Buffalo, near the airport and next to a shopping centre. We walked into a few shops, including Sears who had clearance sales and Kirsten and I bought up. It was cheap, even with tax and our 30%. ... read more

It seems like we are skipping rocks across the pond. Hopping from one place to another with little time in between. Put your diving suits on for these excursions. We are altogether in this like a rock pile and we don't need anyone sinking. Remember last year we joined the Howard (NY) Historical Society in Howard, NY. My mother and I lived there on my grandparents' farm after my father died. We lived there @ 3 years (1957 -) before moving into Hornell, NY. I thought it would been nice to get back to one part of my roots. It was very nice and we met a lot of good people. We have stayed on as life members but don't go to the meetings anymore. Too far and too late at night to drive to. Each ... read more

Help! I'm treading water......trying to keep up with my blogs. Fear not - eventually I'll get the job done but it's going to take awhile. Do I hear Cheers??? Please just be patient. "All good things come to those who wait" ---- used by Violet Fane in 1892. And now me: used by Sandy Guenter in 2016. On July 16th, Cory & I decided we would go to the Italian Festival on Hertel Avenue in Buffalo, NY. We have never gone before but we love Italian food (or just about any food, note photos)....Cory loves meatballs mostly....just meatballs and of course, pizza. We usually go to the huge Allentown (Buffalo) Art Festival but they predicted rain this year so we didn't go. It never rained! So much for the local weathermen. Blaaat! So, it was an ... read more

Geo: 42.8854, -78.8784DH was a little upset that I hesitated when our lack of space forced a decision around taking her or my golf clubs on this road trip. I really wasn't hesitating- I just wasn't paying attention- but since neither of those answers score me any points, we decided that the official start to the road trip had to be the very first location of her beloved Tim Hortons coffee shop. DH had developed something of a worrisome addiction to Double Doubles by the end of our stay in TO (I'm sure the maid was puzzled by the coffee stained intravenous bags we left behind) and she knew that this would be one of the last Timmies she was going to indulge in for quite some time. There was a time when I could make ... read more

Simcoe to Niagara Falls to Buffalo, NY Headed off on another hot day toward Niagara Falls. Arrived around 3pm giving us time to admire the incredible view from our room at level 30 of the Embassy Suites and have a bit of a tidy up before our guests arrived to catch up. Rosco, Raewyn and String arrived and we debriefed about our respective journeys getting to Niagara as we last saw each other in Vancouver and Seattle (String). We then had a great dinner at the hotel together, amazing food. Trev and I went for a walk about down to the falls which were now illuminated with coloured lights and saw a laser show and sights and sounds of the city. Next morning we got tickets to see 'Bodies Revealed' the exhibition which is real bodies ... read more

Sorry for the delay since Day Thirty-Eight. Quite the cliffhanger though, isn't it? Day Thirty-Nine was a full day with a lot to write about so I did what I do best...I procrastinated...for several days. I finally got the text written then I had to go through pictures of that day, choose which to include, upload them, put them in order and come up with captions for the ones that would be included with the text. It's a long process. Meanwhile, we're going and doing more for me to blog about, but I can't because I haven't started Day Thirty-Nine yet. Everything just backed up from there. So the past few days I've been binge blogging so I can throw them all up at once for you to binge read. Then of course our first night ... read more

Geo: 42.9264, -78.7479Well here we go again, off on another road trip. After doing this four times in the last three years, one would think we had enough, but there are so many things to see on this continent, that we are going exploring once again to find more treasures. We put Poinciana in our rear view mirror once again on July 9th and headed out. Our first stop was Raleigh for some time with the kids. We then headed up to Massachusetts to get a tour of Scott's new/old house…new to him but built in 1839…and a visit with Max. We then moved on to Chatham, MA on Cape Cod where Steve played golf in Scott's member/guest tournament at Eastward Ho. They did not win the tournament like they did last year, but Steve did win ... read more
