In case you were wondering about my 1st year in Korea, here is the address to my old blog. http://dan22dan.blogspot.com/ Travelblog is just easier to use to I'll stick to using this one. Update: Diploma notarized and ready to be mailed, but still waiting on my background check. I had a phone interview with a new recruiter a few days ago. I think it went well. When he asked about my previous school I taught in when I was there last, I told him the name... His reaction was, "Ohh, I know that school..." Haha. That pretty much sums that up. Happy Easter! Later-... read more

Unfortunately the process of getting my e2 visa completed and actually finding a teaching job in Korea takes some time. SO from day to day I will usually have nothing to report, but in the mean time I will do my best to keep busy doing the things I love here that I won’t be able to do once I leave for Korea. But today I have three things I wanna chat about: Sabres, Camp, and an interview… Sabres: WOW!!! I went to the last home game of the regular season last night with my cousin, his girlfriend Shawna, and his buddy Josh. The first period was abysmal! I was really getting pissed off. Fortunately, the remainder of the game would not disappoint! After the 1st period it was 3-0 Toronto. Awful… From that point on ... read more

Here I go again. I am now about two weeks into my hunt for a new teaching position in Korea. With a year under my belt and knowing my way around Seoul (sort of), I know where I want to be. But let me rewind a little... I returned to the US back in early September with the hopes of returning to Korea very soon after. After talking to family I decided to give the teaching market here a try. I started subbing in a few districts to keep myself in the classroom and I started working at the YMCA again. Subbing isn't too glorious. It's relatively easy for the most part, but it's not what I want to do for an extended amount of time. Well, it has been 7 months, applied in several different ... read more

The scope of my departure had not fully registered until I woke this morning. I have everything packed and every item checked off on my to do list. But until today I may as well have been packing for a few weeks in, say, Kansas City. I filled out the first of a seemingly endless flow of paperwork eight months ago and had the idea to study abroad long before that. The three months I will spend in Spain have seemed like a vague and distant venture, blurred by fantasy and unrealistic imagination. Everyone knows I haven’t stopped confidently explaining (with detail) the awesome things I will do, the fascinating people I will meet, and the marvelous things I will see. Now its time to live up to the great tales I have foreseen. Perhaps it ... read more

This will be a very short entry ever. On our way to visiting Canada we passed through Buffalo. Buffalo's claim to fame is BUFFALO WINGS and beef on weck (maybe Niagara waterfall as well since it is a short distance away). Well, I cannot recommend visiting Buffalo. It looked very run down and not a very attractive place to live in. But I won't bash the city too much so let's just get on with the highlights. SCHWABL'S FOR BEEF ON WECK was a highlight for us. Old school place where it seemed as if the staff knew about 90% of the customers (customers and staff alike were mostly born before 1960) so they have all been here for a while. Beef on weck is thinly sliced roast beef on a bun with lots of salt ... read more

Glory Days Reunion – Saturday July 23, 2011 The Glory Days Reunion of Lovejoy, NY (Robert’s childhood neighborhood near Buffalo) came together for a reunion (hosted by some of the members of Robert’s grade school). July 22, 2011 Today we took the metro into the city. We parked at the university and took it to the end. Along the way we stopped at City Hall which provided a wonderful view of the city (25 floors up). The metro ends at the pier. It has been fixed up a lot since we were there last. There were lots of brightly colored Adirondack chairs scattered all around the area. ... read more

And we’re off!! As soon as the bus pulled out of Ottawa me and mom were like: VACATIONNNNNNNN! Yep, we’re both totally psyched for this trip. (She might add her two cents every so often on here. Or not. She’s undecided… but she says hello everyone nonetheless) Anyway, bus ride was uneventful; we got to Toronto and made our connection to Buffalo no problemo. I taught Mom the tricks-of-the-trade for how to keep both seats to yourself on the bus – even when it’s near capacity. Yep, bonding over anti-social behavior? I win. Now as for the border crossing at Fort Erie/Buffalo…? Yeahhhh, that was a pain. It took us 2 hours to get over the border – absolutely ridiculous. Observations for the night: Do not tell the border guard you’re coming to work on some ... read more
