The Villa Soleada Children's Home for Girls is almost ready to be opened, but they are still accepting donations! I am almost halfway to my goal of $300. If you haven't already, please consider making a small donation via my Project Page at: http://www.ceciskids.org/fundraising/profile.php?id=1244 My trip this year will be extra special, as I will be joined by 2 of my former students from Lawrence Middle School. I can't wait for them to experience such an amazing adventure, and know that the work they will be doing will help make a huge contribution to the lives of some wonderful Honduran families. The bike is ready and I am all packed and ready to go. The weather looks good for the first few days. I will be traveling alone this time, I am curious to see how it is different and whether or not I like it. I have to be in Key West by Wednesday the 8th of May, so I will have to average 350 miles a day - shouldn't be too hard except that I have only been on the bike 3 rimes since I got back from the cross country trip last September so I expect that the first few days I will be very, very sore.... read more

After a full on 4 days in the US we were excited to have a chilled out day today in New Hope! We had a decent sleep in and did a few blogs and I got out of the shower to find my amazing boyfriend by the name of Benjamin had cooked me turkey (again!) sausages and candy pancakes for breakie! An odd combo but yuuuummy! We enjoyed breakie and a coffee and decided to leave Susan to it today for as long as poss and she was battling with her sewing machine and getting a bit stressed as she had to make a Technicolour Coat for Jackie's concert tonight, and it was not co-operating with her! So she dropped us in New Hope and said she would come and pick us up in the arvo ... read more

We both got a decent night's sleep on the plane thanks to the assistance of a couple of sleeping pills. We awoke, had a quick bite of Saudi Arabian airline food and before we knew it we were landing at JFK. We arrived at the passport control area and after standing in line for ages, finally got to the front and were greeted by a power-hungry high horse of an immigration official. First of all, he did not consider Rach and I travelling together a 'family' and required us to fill out separate customs forms, even though we were told on the aeroplane and also by an assistant whilst waiting in line that we'd only need to fill out one. So Rach had to run back and fill out the form exactly the same as me ... read more

Once we returned to Thomas’ house in NJ life slowed down. Andy left on Thursday for NYC so that he could make an early departure Friday morning. Thomas and I were left to our own devices. Without reflecting poorly on Thomas, I can honestly say we are getting old. Thursday didn’t bring any partying or youthful nonsense. We took a ride in the BMW side car to Johnny Mac’s, sat quietly for dinner at Brick Wall in Asbury Park, and returned home early to watch movies and play chess. Playing chess with a friend is one of the things I miss about my family home. My dad taught me the game when I was a young boy. We would play on lazy Saturday afternoons while watching the old James Bond films. My brother and I may ... read more

Thomas, Andy and I set out for the gambling adventure, destination Atlantic City, relatively early in the day. The drive to AC isn’t anything special and rain added to the mediocrity. We had a solid night’s rest and a good breakfast so we were definitely ready for some afternoon boozing. Grab bag of shooters arranged and distributed, we checked into the Topicana a little after 3:00 PM. The hotel room was nicer than we expected for the $60 special on Priceline, or whatever. We had a view of the ocean and downtown from the 56th floor. The room itself was a little dated, but it’s distinct 80s casino feel was authentic and apropos. A few pulls off the bottle of Dewars we brought with us and we were ready to hit the pit. I have never ... read more

I left Anchorage at 10:00 AM on March 15th with clear skies and a beautiful view of the Chugach Range. Rarely have I flown out of Ted Stevens International Airport taking off to the north. That particular flight plan took us over the city and Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson. I haven’t ever float over the bases on a clear day. It’s a pretty impressive sight, the scope of operations within the military bases. I broke a couple FAA rules and pulled out the phone for a quick photo. This brings me to an important question - who at the FAA still thinks that we turn off our cellphones when we fly? Silly regulations... The flight to Newark was pleasant enough. I got off the plane and found the airport easy to navigate. By the time I ... read more

Lambertville is a quaint town with lots of little shops at the most western edge of northern New Jersey. We're staying at the Inn at Lambertville Station, which is located right on the Delaware River. We can easily cross the river into New Hope, Pennsylvania, which is another cute town. Everything is easiliy accessible to us. We went to a wedding last night at Lambertville House and walked there with ease. This morning, we wanted to take a stroll along Bridge Street to get some coffee. After hours of waiting for everyone else, I finally took off on my own to take in some of the sites. There's a beautiful, stone Catholic church, and an old Baptist church which my mom said is being turned into a music hall. Before too long, I spotted the rest ... read more
