Jason and I are getting the last of our stuff together for our trip. We should be out by 7:15 in the morning. We will have breakfast at the Metro 29 diner in Arlington Va. then it's on the road again. Our first day should take us as far as eastern Kentucky. I don't think we will have any photos to post until we get on Route 66 so don't expect to see much. Look for more in the coming days.... read more

I have just got back from 3 days in Atlantic city, the Las Vegas of the east coast. My first day in Atlantic city involved the retail outlet stores, you have to love factory shops, though I feel all the money I spent there outweighed the savings and discounts. Though I now own Calvin Klein, banana republic and guess clothes which at full retail value probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. Kayla came with me being a very good clothes mule, and generally good bag carrier. She does have some uses. But the main reason for going to Atlantic city is the casinos, after signing up and getting my free 10 dollar slot voucher. I hit the casino with a whimper, my love of money made it difficult for me to gamble with any real ... read more

Well it's less than a week before my trip. I can't wait. I have been looking forward to this trip for over 10 years now and now my son can join me. The main reason for this trip is to see for myself my fathers final resting place in SantaFe New Mexico. In 1929 my father graduated high school and decided to go cross country with 3 on his friends. When they got to Albuquerque NM he told his friends that someday he would retire there. Well in 1972 he did, he bought a 2 bedroom adobe style home and settled in. He was happy and for the next 19 years it was home. He is now buried in the Veterans cemetary in SanteFe. I have not been back since he died and i want to ... read more

Geez! Tough traveling with these two! Jeanne suggested she edit my blogs going forward because I repeated a word and misspelled another in the previous one. But she can't, because the party's over and we're back to our real lives. Unequivocally the best vacation any of us have ever had. (I think we agreed on that but in case that may hurt any feelings, then it may be equivocal) And the best part? Since that seems to be the question du jour, it was definitely being together. No drama, no arguing, just the occasional tease - but that's OK, right? Since "taking the piss out of each other" approaches a national sport in Ireland. On Sunday we headed north to the wild west and drove through some little towns on the way. Red door, yellow door, ... read more

After spending a considerable amount of time "monging" on the sofa at my friend Kayla's house.. I have finally started to experience true Americana. Today I went to a shooting range called "ready aim fire", but not before a quick stop at the ammunition store, complete with mounted deer heads and a fully mounted and stuffed bear. Proving that taxidermy is still a viable art form. I hadn't expected to discover hick town USA so soon into my travels or actually in New Jersey. So the british girl embarked on a trip to the gun range, after handing over my driving license to the gentleman behind the counter, who seemed quite bemused by a British driving license I loaded up on googles and ear muffs, and held a 38 calibre gun in my hand. An actual ... read more

N wanted to join me for the morning walk. But we could walk only for five minutes. It was too cold and windy at 7 am. So we came back. I waited all day for the warm weather. It did not happen at all. Although sun was up and bright even at noon it was cold. Found the movie ‘Witness for the prosecution’ after over ten years of search. Great movie. After lunch slept till 3:25. Rushed to the school for the 3:30 appointment for N for the tour of classroom-Montessori Method in Sahana’s school. Then went to Shop Rite for groceries before returning home. At 6:00 pm Ravi came and picked us up. Went to his house and then to Balaji Temple and Oak Tree Street with all the Indian shops and restaurants. Came back ... read more

Well, no one looks forward to vaccinations but they have to be done! Depending on what area of the world you are traveling to there are of course different vaccinations that are necessary to have. Aside for routine vaccinations, the following are all recommended for traveling to Thailand: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, and Japanese Encephalitis. I will soon be scheduling an appointment with my doctor and will keep you updated as to how many shots each vaccination is. Depending on what area of Thaialand you plan to visit, or if you plan to work in a specific field (such as with animals) you may need additional vaccinations. For example, the following are areas of Thailand with Malaria: Rural, forested areas that border Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, and Laos. Rural, forested areas in districts of Phang Nga ... read more

Up at 4 am as usual. Went for the morning walk around apartments. It started drizziling. There was a thunder storm warning for today so cancelled our plan to go to Statue of Liberty. Saw Hitchcock' movie The Lady Vanishes and Kahani. Sahana had two parties to attend. Visited Sridhar-Sujana.. 7pm to 10.45pm.... read more

Shannon and I recently decided we want to teach abroad. Our first decision to be made was where? We have traveled throughout Europe and wanted to set flight to a new destination. After seeing the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Red light district, the Segrada Familia castle, and so on, we were in search of something different. Somewhere authentic and real. A place where we can divulge in the diversity and challenge our limits. After tedious research, we found ourselves attached to Thailand: The Land of Smiles. At first, peoples reactions to Thailand are all the same, "What? Why Thailand? Do you realized it's a third world country? It's dangerous.", but we did not let that destroy our plans. After reading up on the culture, not to mention, helplessly smiling in awe at the pictures, we ... read more
