Sin City. And so it is. Every thing is big, too bright and excessive. After the laidback cruise we were ready for some action but somehow watching episodes of CSI just doesn't prepare you for the hustle & bustle of LV. We checked in to the Flamingo and head out to explore. It probably took us 3 hours to walk down 2 blocks on the Strip because we kept getting sidetracked in the casinos. We wandered into Paris, watched the fountains at Bellagio, hassled by time-share sales people, and won free decks of cards at the Tropicana. The next day we went for a late lunch at the Bellagio buffet. That buffet was amazing! Not only was there a huge selection but the quality was very high as well. We lingered over our first plates because ... read more

Thank God for midday check out! I wasn’t hungover, or tired from sleep. It was a nice day outside and man, did I feel good. The weekend was ahead, with one major highlight - Las Vegas, baby! The airport shuttle was on time and was very efficient, if efficiency can be defined at driving 130km/h down the highway to the airport. I wasn’t in a rush anyway since my plane didn’t leave until the afternoon so I had plenty of time to scout out for more souvenirs. I found an awesome Dorothy snowdome for my sister, which I had to leave behind at the security gate thanks to the TSA regulations. I had to change planes at Denver’s airport. This is considered the main hub of America’s air network. As soon as I got off ... read more

Oi oi, I arrived in Vegas on 18th September. I was staying at the USA Hostel on Fremont street, which is about a bus ride away from the main Casino strip. The first thing i did when arriving in Vegas was to book a Grand Canyon tour for the next day. I was up at 7 the next morning for the long day ahead, we were going to visit the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, also going to the Hoover Dam on the way. As Dams go the the Hoover Dam was purely belter, half way across the bridge over the Dam is a sign saying you are leaving Nevada and entering Arizona. Once in Arizona we had another coupe of hours drive, often over dirt roads until we reached the West Rim of the ... read more

... read more

Well, Russ and I survived Vegas and it didn't even cost us an arm and a leg. Had a great time, loved Vegas! After buying our new vehicle and getting it insured Friday night we decided to head out to Vegas on Saturday morning. The trip started nicely, get on the 210 and follow the signs to Vegas. Well, that's nice and easy in theory but what do you do when they suddenly shut down the 210 to rip up the road and make you detour thru some place without signs telling you where to go? Never fear, we asked someone and made our way to Vegas on a different freeway. The rest of the journey was uneventful, thank god. We got to Vegas about 3-3.5 hours later and then came the fun part, trying to ... read more

Methinks that my body is trying to tell me something about my new 'be healthy and get in shape' campaign. I have a small blister on my pinky toe, rug burn on my knees (apparently I slept-crawled in a panic, somewhere, very quickly...), and a foot that is now making cracking noises when I step on it. I take full responsibility for that one, though. Not a smart idea to run over rocks in platform shoes. Just dumb. However, it does put a damper on the hike Mt. Charleston plans I had for this weekend. Even if my foot is feeling better, I may not want to risk injury again. I don't really know what I did, other than take a splendiferous fall. My foot isn't swollen, or discolored. Nor does it hurt in the area ... read more

... read more

Left the Bungalow on Monday, first time we were sad to leave somewhere since Vancouver. We + Tim hired a car and made our way to Las Vegas which is only about a four hour drive but we wanted some time to cruise the strip :) Got there about 5pm and checked a few of the hotels for any offers as we wanted to be on the strip if possible and eventually checked into Excalibur, cheesy King Arthur themed cheesefest only cheesier, but it was pretty funny in a cheesy way. Checked in and was amazing to have a nice clean hotel room with air conditioning, think we collectively deposited about 5Kg of sand in the shower! First things first, all you can eat buffet for 7 quid, bargain! Then we got all dressed up with ... read more

For the week of our stay in Las Vegas we stayed in the apartment we'd booked during our earlier visit to Miami. The expensive apartment in Las Vegas (Nevada) was absolute luxury after two months of sleeping mostly in a small tent. The bed was huge and very comfy, and we had a TV and jacuzzi in the bedroom. With an equally comfortable sofa and a second TV in the living room, we could have easily stayed indoors all week! The truth is we didn't do a lot, as after covering many hundreds of miles in the last 8 weeks we certainly needed a rest, but we did fit in a couple of new experiences. First we visited the nearby Hoover Dam, without which Las Vegas as we know it simply wouldn't exist. At 232 ... read more
