Our previous blog concluded with our last day in Los Angeles, Venice Beach and Santa Monica. On Monday the 31st of July we rose early in the hope of getting our motorhome earlier than expected and heading to Las Vegas. Little did we know that it would not be until 5pm that afternoon, after spending 3.5hrs at Moturis Motorhome Rentals that we would be finally on our way. Despite arriving early to collect the motorhome, due to not enough staff, and our previously ordered bicycles not being ready it took far longer than expected to organise. Chris took some photos of the motorhome before we bombarded it with all of our luggage and once we finally signed all the paperwork and collected our bicycles (and the additional items we were supposed to get included in the ... read more

Grace had found an incredible deal at the Venetian in Vegas. She hadn't been there since before she was legal and I'd been on the road a lot for work. So we thought would be a good idea to go and spend some time together. And we had a great time. Ate some good food, hung out at the pool, walked the strip, gambled and did some shopping. The best by far was eating at Lutece, a french resturant at the Venetian. The food and service were the best I've ever experienced. If you have the dollars I would recommed it highly. ... read more

I was here for two nights and decided to stay at a proper hotel on the famous Las Vegas Strip ....... well when in Vegas...........so I stayed at the Circus Circus Hotel. I met a random girl from hawaii at the airport and we spent the first afternoon and evening together exploring the Las Vegas Strip -this is the collective name for the road where most of the major hotels/casino's are found. Check out the photo's, the hotels are tourist attractions, come to vegas, visit the world, there's an eiffel tower for goodness sake! The next day I took a scenic flight day tour over the Grand Canyon. It was simply amazing, a place for the correct usage of the word Awesome. It is huge and goes on as far as the eye can see. Viva Las Vegas The first thing that became apparent when stepping off the plane in Las Vegas was that this town is serious about exploiting its gambling licence at every opportunity - pokers machines in the airport departure lounge! The second thing was that if you’re not gambling your money away there is plenty of people to hand it over to in the form of a tip. Checking in to the MGM Grand was an absolute delight - FYI, the largest hotel in the world, as everyone from the hotel porter to the cab driver was compelled to tell us. Everything at the MGM was large - our room, our beds - even the marble bathroom - yippee! We found one of the 5 hotel pools pretty quickly due to the fact that we were ... read more

When we organised this journey a long time ago - Vegas for me was just going to be a stop-off for going to the Grand Canyon. But it turned out to be the place to understand what America is about. On the shuttle from the airport I looked out the window to see the biggest hotel I have ever seen. Ten seconds later we passed an even bigger one. And then a bigger one still! I can't believe that all the hotels fill up!! The hotel we stayed in wasn't one of the biggest b ut still we stayed on the 29th floor! The lift went so fast when coming down that my ears popped every time! Anyway Vegas is the place to see everything American. And by that I mean over-the-top, bright, loud and in-your-face! ... read more

The company that hosts me has a datacenter i Los Angeles. Usually we just remote administrate the servers down there, but this time we had to go down to move som stuff around. Anyways, Marcos, my CTO(Chief Technical Officer) has a small plane, so he decided we should fly down in that. In addition to me and Marcos, Dave and Gabe was coming along. Dave is our sysadmin, while Gabe is a friend of Marcos that was going to Las Vegas, so we decided to drop him of there. After lengthy weight calculations on Marcos' part, he had us meet him at Palo Alto airport at 18.00 Sunday evening. You see, the problem with small aircraft like this, is not only the weight restrictions (they can only take som much load), but the balance is equally ... read more

Today we drove from Vail, Colorado to Barstow, California. Along the way we made stops in Utah to bear witness to the glorious mesas and Las Vegas to experience the thrill of gluttony and overconsumption at its best. We started the morning at our cozy Vail B&B. From there it took almost 3 hours to make it back down the west side of the Rockies. Between fits of fear of “falling off the side of the mountain,” Laurie forced us to stop at every single spot off the side of the road to take pictures of the landscape. It was absolutely breathtaking. When we finally reached lower ground, we became startling aware of how small we truly are. Through Utah we were completely surrounded by Mesas taller and wider than our minds could previously imagine. It ... read more

In May, Chris and I took a trip out to Vegas, so we could finally take my mom's advice on staying at the Venetian. It was my first time out there since I was legal, but we made sure to go to Circus Circus to jog my memory of Vegas. I lost a lot of money, did a lot of shopping and had the most wonderful meal at Lutece (it still gives Chris a heart attack when he thinks of how much the meal cost). I wanted to go to a drive thru chapel and get our pictures taken in front of it, then send it to our friends, but Chris didn't think that was funny! ... read more

Viva Las Vegas…… Vegas was crazy. Random and a bit plastic but awesome none the less. The bright lights and all the people everywhere 24hr’s a day is such an experience. Walking into a casino at four in the morning and seeing several hundred people milling around winning and losing money is such a unique spectacle…..obviously not for the people losing. Unlike anywhere I have ever been. Journey into Las Vegas was so long and involved a stop-over at LA greyhound station which seemed to make it feel even longer, don’t like the changes you have to make everywhere….but you have to unfortunately. Anyhow-all was good and we arrived just north of the strip and got a taxi to Circus Circus. Never seen a queue for a hotel check in that stretched the entire length of ... read more
